2-1 Napoli.

Cavani and Lavezzi, surprisingly.

Or, if you want the BBC's version: Napoli 1-2 Chelsea (Cavani 45+1) lol

How shit is the PL now even compared to Serie A?

Totally different level now from this seasons football.

You seem to really hate English football. We've been unrivalled in Europe in terms of consistency and multiple teams being competitive for years now, we're not going to have 3 teams in the semi finals every year.

Tottenham crush Inter, you're not saying how bad Italian football is and how good the English game is. Very selective criticism.

I'm not defending it, the top teams in the PL are weaker. I just think your cynicism is very reactionary.

Not really, it's just Chelsea and Arsenal are awful.

Problem is the two Mancunian teams didn't progress through the groups, whereas three years ago we'd have all four in the quarters. Long time ago that seems.

Nice to see Napoli softening the Laandanas up for us

They wont get past Brum....

Precisely, the Premier League is still Europe's strongest league according to UEFA...

However, i don't think many people are surprised at the failure of England's clubs this season, the four that qualified each have a dam good reason for why they have struggled this year.

Wait until next season's Champions League to determine whether or not the Premier League is in genuine decline on the continental stage.

All well and good beating Chelsea and Man City, but how would they cope on a cold night at Stoke?

To be honest I think they would win, Stoke aren't in form at the moment.

Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are all in a transitional stage, just look at the odd results all season. Spurs would have faired much better in the Champions league compared to those three. It's certainly made for an exciting PL this season though.

This has happened to both the Italian and Spanish sides....

The Premier League may well be on a decline, personally think like most of its clubs its going through a transitional stage. Chelsea would do a lot better if AVB was given the chance to get on with his job instead of having to deal with the media 24/7 as they watch his every move in an attempt to fill their back pages so SSN have sonething to talk about. AVB will become an excellent manager and had Fergie took over Man Utd recently and had the results he had to begin with then he'd be in the same position. Its the same with DeGea, every little mistake the media pick up on and the public regurgitates it, Lindegaard is just as bad but nothing is ever said.

Aware this is a joke Corky, not aiming it at you, but I'm over the fking moon Valencia won at Stoke last week. On a winter night. Hopefully this will massively shut up all the nobs who actually believe the best teams in the world wouldn't cope against Bolton/Stoke/Wolves etc.

As for England not being as good as other leagues, is anyone particularly fussed? Why does it matter?

Yeah I do. I hate the debt, the bullshit and the fanfare that comes with the premiership. I hate the quotes from sky sports news that goals like Rooneys overhead kick "only happen in the premiership".

It's not just this season either, last was the same, just Man U got a gifted draw to the final before getting their ass handed to them.

The glory years look over, billions in debt, all the top sides in transition and average players like Wellbeck and Sturridge considered the brightest prospect we have.

The team which wins the league this year wouldn't have got anywhere near it 4-5 years back when the Premiership was actually a fantastic league.

Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott getting premiership medals will sum it up. Wouldn't get in the top 3 in Spain and probably the top 5 in Italy.

Valencia coped very confortably with only half the first team out.

Lescott has been fantastic this season, one of Man City's best players...

Exactly and he doesn't get anywhere near our national side which isn't that strong.

Could probably say the same for Micah Richards as well.

I quite agree, the English clubs (ironically, apart from Stoke probably) haven't covered themselves in glory this season in Europe.

It may be just a bad year, I don't know, but currently other countries are ahead of ours.

Think the argument is that they both should. Richards is miles better than Johnson, and better than Walker at the moment. And on form Lescott should be starting ahead of Terry, Rio and Cahill. For some reason neither of them can get a look in.

Walker is probably the best at RB, problem is both Richards and Lescott looked miles out of their depth in the champions league, that's surely contributed to not being picked by England.

A lot still havnt forgotten THAT game for England against Croatia by Micah either lol

We'll have to agree to disagree on Richards and Walker I guess, but I think Richards is better. Richards hasn't started too many CL games because of Mancini's full back rotation, and Man City have been woeful full stop in that competition. Lescott may have looked poor, but has Terry been any better? Or Rio? And Cahill made his debut in the competition tonight, did he look world class?

As for Richards against Croatia, wasn't that like three years ago. He was 19 then, he's grown up. Picking players on form from 3 or 4 years back is half the problem with the England team, how about picking players on their form right now?

Posted

Wouldn't disagree with much of that to be honest!
