Narborough_fox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 At least City's fate was out of their own hands. United's fate was still in theirs and unfortunately, De Gea's.
Soar Fox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Manchester United's next european game will be shown after Home & Away on channel 5
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Stoked for Basel had a soft spot for them for a long time because of Scotty Chipperfield who is up there on there all time most apperance record books. Was great to see him come on as a sub tonight.
VinceNoir Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Just saw MC highlights and saw all the 'Missiles' being lobbed at the players & pitch. This was also an issue in the Merseyside Derby earlier this year. I'm really not happy about this, and fear there could be a major incident which provokes a overblown reaction, where we all end up watch matches behind nets and barriers. Hope these ****ing morons realise before they damage the experience for all fans in this country. Ps, I'm all for it if the player has spat at the crowd or something, but if their just being a competitive opponent its not needed Haven't seen this post until now. I was at the game and it really was nothing. I know that you're not saying it was a major incident, but it was merely some MCFC fans throwing balls of paper (there was loads of paper about because of the skyblue sheets we had to hold over our heads when the teams came out) at stewards. Even the stewards took it with a smile and gave the fans a wave every now and then. My brother even threw one and almost hit a steward! Everyone was in good spirits and it was such a shame that some Villarreal player made a meal out of it when one landed near him. And once the guy on the stadium speaker told people to stop, they stopped. I'm pleased that nothing more was made of this situation Don't ask me why I felt obliged to reply to a two-month old post Procrastinating exam papers, I guess!
Leicester_Loyal Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Lyon and Ajax results look very dodgy indeed.
shen Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Channel 5 on a Thursday night lol Seriously thought it's slightly worrying that englands reigning champions can't get out of the groupstage Yeah, but they're not the only ones. The German, French, Portuguese and Dutch champions are all out as well already.
Koke Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Lyon and Ajax results look very dodgy indeed. Very suspicious. I know Dinamo are poor, but conceding six goals in 45 minutes. And Ajax had two perfectly legal goals disallowed. it's quite odd that Ajax just got knocked out by the most unlikely scenario that was possible. Probably a few winks and thumbs up that was exchanged. Maybe even a few brown envelopes under the table.
MC Prussian Posted 8 December 2011 Author Posted 8 December 2011 at the miserable Sky Sports pundits at the Basel - ManU match. They look and talk as if they were shell-shocked. Gary Neville in particular.

Of course Neville is going to be miserable you clown. His team have just been knocked out when they really shouldn't have been.

So poor that it genuinely is suspicious. Lyon basically started walking the ball into the net after 1-2. And as you say, Ajax having two chalked off while the first Madrid goal arguably being offside makes this seem unbelievable. But surely fixing cannot be happening in two such high-profile games...? Of course Neville is going to be miserable you clown. His team have just been knocked out when they really shouldn't have been. I just believe MC was expressing a bit of 'schadenfreude'. No need to call him a clown
MC Prussian Posted 8 December 2011 Author Posted 8 December 2011 Of course Neville is going to be miserable you clown. His team have just been knocked out when they really shouldn't have been. No need to be so touchy, Bert. As for the "they shouldn't have been knocked out" part - I go with the old Toyota slogan: Nothing's impossible. Particularly in football. It's just not Manchester United's year and for me, it was about time there was a change at the top of the Premier League as well as internationally. Ferguson has done miracles over a span of 25 years, established an almost too dominant force domestically and globally, but yesterday's performance was dire and Basel deserved the win. Besides, my snide remarks at the Sky Sports pundits has more to do with the cocky way most of them were expecting ManU to go through, whilst belittling and/or completely ignoring the Swiss side. The only one to come out with some credit is Graeme Souness, he came up with some really decent and well-balanced comments.

I said the same thing yesterday, it wasn't even considered this week that Man U could go out, everyone was just dismissive of Basle, as long as Man U turned up and made the effort they couldn't lose. Great to see them turned over. Don't agree about Fergie producing an unstoppable global force though, domestically brilliant yes but two European cups in 25 years is a bit of an underachievement with the squads he has had IMO.
Corky Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Not really surprised about Man City, the situation was out of their hands and at least they go out after a win. Man Utd should never finish third in that group.

MC Prussian Posted 8 December 2011 Author Posted 8 December 2011 Lyon game being investigated by French betting regulators SSN. Hardly surprising, given the outcome of yesterday's games. Zagreb goalkeeper Kelava looks particularly disinterested, as if he was told not to put in too much effort. And Ajax having two goals disallowed. Hmmm... fishy.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Lyon game being investigated by French betting regulators SSN. Something dodgy has definitely gone on here. Whether or not anyone is caught is a different matter. A Zagreb defender also winked at a Lyon striker after he had scored.
Guest MattP Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 It's absolutely outrageous to be honest. Zagreb looked fairly up for it first half then looked like they had 45 mins to live in the second. Hard not to think some foul play has gone on when you see that.
AjcW Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Now we know they are more than a News channel . For the record the regulators are called ARJEL

Wasn't it? I said man utd would struggle and I've seen basle at home look very good, and lets face it man utd are simply not as good as previous seasons, it was no surprise at all.

Leicester_Loyal Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Shaqiri looked absolutely last night, reckon he'll be moving clubs soon if he carries on putting performances like that.

I said man utd would struggle and I've seen basle at home look very good, and lets face it man utd are simply not as good as previous seasons, it was no surprise at all. I was referring to Sky Sports's coverage of it. Not to mention Harry Redknapps interview where he actually laughed at the prospect of Basle knocking then out before saying "no chance, it's Man Utd and we all know what they do".
Guest MattP Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 Shaqiri looked absolutely last night, reckon he'll be moving clubs soon if he carries on putting performances like that. They were touting him about for 5million in the summer and couldn't find any takers.
