Danno Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 He can go, there's much better strikers out there. He has the workrate and everything, but ****s up set-peices, misses chances, no confidence. Don't understand this wankfest over him anyway
ajthefox Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 I really like him but after being put in the final bid for Maynard it no longer matters. The way Sven wants to play is a system which does Waggy no favours and despite him having some potential it's clear he isn't really in Sven's plans. I know he hasn't played very well for us since the perm move but I feel sorry for the lad, seemed like he really was part of the good feeling we had at the club under NP, came back hoping for more but it's just got worse and worse. It's a shame but I'm now resigned to seeing a young and hungry player who I really liked and had high hopes become one of many players who have amounted to very little since we last were in the prem.
Fox92 Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Not good enough now, in my opinion anyway. Might be a good Championship striker in the future, but his shooting is poor. Nothing to prove last season like there was under Pearson in his first season.
danlcfc4ever Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 I'd let him go for the right money, I would want to make back what he cost us. If we can't make that back hold onto him, he's a good player and the form will come back. Maybe even loan him out somewhere.
wacky Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Never really rated him. I thought 2m for him was excessive but I was hoping he would prove me wrong. After last season & so far in friendlys this season I'm sorry but he is a player very over-rated!
John Matrix Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Lack of confidence. That's what it comes down to. agreed, there's class there.
STUHILL Posted 28 July 2011 Author Posted 28 July 2011 agreed, there's class there. Are you basing that just on the 12 goals he scored for us though? I'm starting to think it was more flash in the pan kinda thing now. He has been injury free for a whole season and pre-season now and hasn't shown any glimpse of form. I'm running out of excuses for him really
ozleicester Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Young, impulsive and ready to work hard. Unfortunately not what we need now. we need someone who can "guarantee" goals. will be sorry to see him go, because i think he'll be a fair player in years to come, but, good luck Waggy.
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 I'd keep him for the time being as a squad player. He's nowhere near good enough to play the lone striker role but I think that he is more than capable of being one of the wide forwards. The problem is that he is behind Gallagher, Nugent and Vassel (in that order, in my opinion) but ahead of Dyer for a starting spot. I'd imagine that he'll make approximately 15 appearences this term with most of those being from the bench. If I was him then I'd be looking for a way out but as a supporter I feel that he still has a role to play.
dannythefox Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 1. Great loan spell looked quality. 2. Started playing out wide with soussa. (never looked good out there) 3. Falls out of favour 4. Loses confidence 5. Plays 10mins most games 6. Scores in the last min against Bristol City to win 2-1 must think he has a chance of starting the next game. No he's still on the bench! 7. Probably now no's he's a sub at best working with Sven But I hope we keep him so hopefully he can prove Sven wrong given game time I do believe this kid will shin better than his loan spell.
shade Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 4-3-3 is plain wrong and if we stick with it AGAIN this season then I think we'll struggle to make the play offs. there I said it.
Mr Miaghi Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 4-3-3 is plain wrong and if we stick with it AGAIN this season then I think we'll struggle to make the play offs. there I said it. Are you serious? What would you rather we play then? 4-3-3 is what we WILL be playing next season and I think once we've signed another striker, with the signings and squad we now have, then we should be there or there abouts!

I would only play 433 with three proper strikers like yakubu, maynard and nugent, not half arsed wingers like Gallagher. me personally I would play a 3 5 2, failing that a 4 4 2, but not some poor excuse for a 4 5 1 with a striker like nugent stranded up front on his own.
Bettsj2 Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Nothing is wrong with Waghorn. Sven said he's part of the plans and there's not been anything confirmed that he'll be offered for Maynard apart from a couple of Chinese whispers from Bert and Liam. He had a pretty poor season last year but got injured for the run in and Sven said at the time it was a shame as he would have had more game time. In fact, whenever Sven's asked about Waggy, he only ever has positive things to say. He is a good player. Not outstanding but decent enough to be a squad back up. When Fryatt broke his jaw and Waggy got his chance, he did pretty well but we had no other options. If that was to happen again, he'd probably score 13 or 14 a season but he's certainly not going to be a 20 goal a season striker. At the end of the day, it's not like he's 17. He's 21 so the potential should really have turned to actuality by now. He wont improve much more. Good player though and i'm sure he'll be staying.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 On loan, he looked sheer quality, but last season he was a very different player, struggling with his game, and extremely indecisive. He was, sadly, a liability. Time for him to go.

I pretty much agree with what you said from this point onwards but Sven definitely isn't stupid enough to say he's shit for obvious reasons whether he's trying to sell him or not. In my opinion he's an average champ striker (hence the apparent interest from champ clubs) but as a lone striker in a 4-3-3 we need that touch of quality.

I just think if Sven didnt want him, he wouldnt have took him on the tour and would have left him behind with the rest of the dead men walking. Kermo aside (Sven and the staff new nothing of him so needed to take a look), all the players on the tour I think are deffo in his plans.
Karljohn Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 I watched Waggy at Kettering and he seems to be a frustrated soul, he had a go at Liam Moore for a poor pass and generally looks like he wanted to pick a fight in the 2nd half at times, seems to really beat himself up when things arent going for him, whether thats pressure or just a will to succeed who knows, I saw him after the game and had a picture took with him in the car park, didnt ask him about his future but wouldnt be shocked if he went, I still rate the guy, think he's a great footballer and huge potential but think he needs an arm around him right now, and a decent run in the team.
STUHILL Posted 10 August 2011 Author Posted 10 August 2011 So... Another 90minutes for Waggy and yet another relatively poor performance. People can't say that wasn't a golden chance for him. A full game against a League 2 defence and 0 goals. An 18 year old making his debut however bags a hattrick. Surely even the very pro Waggy people on here must be losing patience. I think if we sell him now we could still get over 1 million for him. Leave it any longer and the way he is going, won't be worth 500k by January!!
sphericalfox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Waggy needs a decent run in a team, but I think it is not with us. Once again he needs to go on loan and I think he will do when we sign our new striker.
Fox92 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 I'd buy a striker, sell Waghorn and probably put Schlupp on the bench. Waghorn has had his chance and he missed a very good opportunity to score as well yesterday (created by Schlupp). I can't see what he offers other than chasing the ball down, because he has no control in his shots.
Happy Fox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 We will either loan him or sell him, I think it will be the latter, once we bring in maybe up to 2 strikers he will be gone, his confidence is zilch and I would think that Schlupp is ahead of him in the Pecking order
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 agreed, there's class there. Have we not seen time and time again that certain players perform better for certain managers. Waggy knows that he's not a key striker in Sven's plans, whereas he was breaking through under Pearson. The best thing Waggy can do, for Waggy, is to move on and play for a manager that really wants him
andog Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 When it was 4-1 last night, Schlupp played a dream ball into Waggy, and still he couldn't score. Lacking in confidence? Maybe his heart isn't in it at Leicester, his name has been in almost every paper linking him in the NM swap deal...
