MC Prussian Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 I'll start this thread with the miss of the season: Nassim Ben Khalifa (Young Boys vs. Westerlo)
The Doctor Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 He was offside anyway I reckon. surely not since he was behind the player that made the pass to him?
NeilyBoy Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 But when the ball was initially played forward he was in an offside position and gained an advantage therein.

purpleronnie Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 I'll start this thread with the miss of the season: Khalifa (Young Boys vs. Westerlo) Black and yellow, black and yellow....
Bugg Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 That Stoke game was one of the worst games I have seen, Stoke near enough had everyone but Kenwyne Jones behind the ball all game, thought it's not surprising seeing as they want to qualify.

Amazing couple of seasons for Swiss football. Knocking out Palermo is phenomenal for a club of Thun's size. Unfortunate for Midtjylland who really haven't had the luck their play deserves in Europe. Brøndby on the other hand, that was embarrassing. 4-0 up with about 15 minutes to go and the completely implode. Ah well...
The Doctor Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 such a shame hadjuk didn't win. couple of shocks there in FC Thun & Gaz.

We're slowly, but steadily catching up with the Danes and les Belges in the UEFA rankings... Watch out, the Swiss are coming!
Podge Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 Hearts Spurs should be a fun tie, especially with the atmosphere at Tynecastle that first leg could be tight. Although they will probably get pumped at the Lane.
isaidno Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 Tottenham will play Hearts in the play-off round to reach the group stage of the Europa League.Scottish champions Rangers face a two-leg tie against Slovenian side Maribor while Celtic have been drawn against Swiss side Sion. Carling Cup winners Birmingham, who were relegated to the Championship, face Portuguese side Nacional and Fulham will play Dnipro of Ukraine. Beaten FA Cup finalists Stoke City take on FC Thun of Switzerland Liking the look of Hearts vs Spurs. Good draw for Stoke
MC Prussian Posted 6 August 2011 Author Posted 6 August 2011 And here are the playoff pairings: Maccabi Tel Aviv - Panathinaikos Atletico Madrid - Vitoria Guimaraes Shamrock Rovers - Partizan Belgrade Metalist Kharkiv - FC Sochaux Besiktas - Alania Vladikavkaz Rosenborg Trondheim - AEK Larnaca Vorskla Poltava - Dinamo Bucharest Bursaspor - Anderlecht AS Roma - Slovan Bratislava Olympiakos Volou* - Paris St. Germain Legia Warsaw - Spartak Moscow Ekranas - Hapoel Tel Aviv PAOK - Karpaty Lviv Trabzonspor - Athletic Bilbao Hearts - Tottenham Hotspur Maribor Tetanec - Glasgow Rangers Steaua Bucharest - CSKA Sofia Nordsjaelland - Sporting Lisbon Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk - Fulham FC Lokomotiv Moscow - Spartak Trnava FC Sion - Celtic Glasgow Slask Wroclaw - Rapid Bucharest Litex Lovech - Dynamo Kyiv Lazio Roma - Rabotnicki Nacional - Birmingham City PSV Eindhoven - SV Keli Ried FC Thun - Stoke City Aalesund - AZ Alkmaar Vaslui - Sparta Prague Omonia Nicosia - MCFranchise Salzburg Zestafoni - Club Brugge Hannover 96 - Sevilla CF HJK Helsinki - FC Schalke 04 Dinamo Tblisi - AEK Athens Red Star Belgrade - Stade Rennes Gaz Metan Medias - Austria Vienna Braga - Young Boys Berne Standard Liege - Helsingborg Obvious surprise to see Thun facing Stoke - I might even drop by and see the first leg in Thun. They've got a brand-new stadium, small (max. capacity around 10'000 ) but fancy. Sion only have an outside chance against Celtic, but they'll take it. They usually do quite well in cup competitions. Hannover vs. Sevilla? My bet's already on the Spanish side. And nice to see a UK derby with Hearts facing Tottenham Hotspur. *Olympiakos Volou might get kicked out of the competition and replaced due to irregularities in the Greek league
MC Prussian Posted 18 August 2011 Author Posted 18 August 2011 Got two tickets for Thun - Stoke tonight. The Potters have sold out their allocation of 1'000 tickets. Should be a good game with a great atmosphere in a brand-new stadium. I fancy Thun nicking it by one goal - and they're playing on astro turf (memories of Young Boys vs Tottenham).

If you are there then, is it true that Stoke replaced Sorenson with Andy Wilkinson after 50 minutes? BBC live updates say they have, which is a bit random when they have Nash on the bench!

BBC live updates say they have, which is a bit random when they have Nash on the bench! BBC Sport 2001: In Thun, Thomas Sorensen makes a good save to block a shot from Benjamin Luthi. Stoke have brought on midfielder Glenn Whelan for forward Kenwyne Jones to try to contain the Swiss side, who are growing in confidence.
Libertine Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Townsend on for Spurs. Let's hope he does nothing so Harry lets him come to us.
Corky Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Townsend on for Spurs. Let's hope he does nothing so Harry lets him come to us. Managed to park the tactics truck without hassle then?
shen Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Sporting got away with a 0-0 at FC Nordsjælland. Should have had a player sent off or gone 1-0 down (Laudrup scored on a riposte, but advantage wasn't played and the ball was pulled back, their player escaping with just a booking).
Guest Bilo Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 NK Maribor 2-1 Rangers They might not even have Europa League footie at this rate.

BBC live updates say they have, which is a bit random when they have Nash on the bench! Sörensen played for the entire game. It was a fun match, despite the meagre scoreline and Thun losing at home. Went there with a mate of mine and it's really convenient getting to and from that place. The Arena was three quarters full, beer was alcohol-free (only bummer), but the weather was really nice and Thun played some great attacking football, in particular in the second half. Thing is, Tony Pulis builds his side around the defense and there was hardly a way past Shawcross, Huth & Co. Pennant and Woodgate didn't play, they were left out of the squad for recovery reasons. But Etherington started and was quite a handful on the left side, as was Kenwyne Jones, whom the Thun back four had real troubles defending against. Won almost every header and protected the ball real good. Regardless of the outcome of the return leg, I'm glad for Thun and its fans that they can present themselves in front of a larger audience.
MC Prussian Posted 18 August 2011 Author Posted 18 August 2011 On a sidenote, seeing Rangers losing (again) and Celtic struggle against Sion - priceless. And Young Boys managing a draw away at Braga? Even though that Portuguese side has almost nothing in common with last season's finalist squad any more, well done.
AjcW Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 I know it was only hearts but 'kinhell Spurs played some beautiful football! The sooner England sack off Postman Pat and get Harry teaching England how to play football like that the better! It reminded me of treble winning Arsenal, maybe they don't need Modric, and they could use the cash to sign another striker and a solid midfielder or prospect similar to Modric. Also if Defoe isn't starting up front for England in our next game then there is something severely wrong!
