Bugg Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 The Romanian guy doing the draw looks exactly like Andy Townsend

StanSP Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Stoke have some horrible away trips. Do I sympathise? Nope! Reckon Group I is toughest. Look forward to seeing Atletico Madrid and Udinese play each other. And hope Shamrock get a win or two over Tottenham!
Jaspa Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Celtic may be back in the competition because of problems with Sion. Seems strange to me
Bugg Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Hold on. Sion fielded 5 Ineligible players? They thought no one would noitce?
MC Prussian Posted 26 August 2011 Author Posted 26 August 2011 Celtic may be back in the competition because of problems with Sion. Seems strange to me Hold on. Sion fielded 5 Ineligible players? They thought no one would noitce? They bought more players than they were allegedly allowed to. Emphasis on "alleged". Then they went on to field those players against Celtic, regardless of the outcome. Still a case for the court.
Corky Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Welcome to Europe Stoke. We were used to tough first round draws.
accessory Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Celtic may be back in the competition because of problems with Sion. Seems strange to me They're in a killer group if they do, and will be lucky to win a game. But Sion were dicing with death by going to court to overturn a ban on some of their players. UEFA and FIFA are not impressed.
accessory Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Stoke have some horrible away trips. Do I sympathise? Nope! The three other teams in the group also have to visit Stoke. Our sympathies should be with them.
Father Ted Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpoGE9TNwNQ Cracking Shamrock equaliser - as good as you'll see in the Europa League all season! LOVE IT!
The Doctor Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 FC Sion were expelled from the competition for fielding ineligible players, since appealed: My link FC Sion have expressed their outrage at Uefa's decision to expel them from the Europa League, saying the verdict is "pure revenge" against their President.Uefa upheld a protest from Celtic after the Swiss club fielded several ineligible players in their 3-1 aggregate win over the Parkhead side. A statement from FC Sion read: "We officially appealed to Uefa on Monday to obtain cancellation of the protest. "For us, it's a pure revenge against our president [Christian Constantin]." Celtic were reinstated to the Europa League on Friday, and will now go into Group I to face Atletico Madrid, Rennes and Udinese. FC Sion, whose statement does not elaborate on the "revenge" claim, say they received "confused explanations" from Uefa regarding the reasons for their decision. They are now planning further appeals against the verdict, and say they fully expect to take their place in the opening match of the competition against Atletico Madrid. "FC Sion officially appealed to Uefa on Monday, in order to obtain the cancellation of the protest," the statement continued. "We remind[ed them] that Celtic received before its home game an official document from the European federation; it mentioned that players were officially eligible. Sion prepares its travel to Madrid [for the opening Europa League group fixture]. "Players [individually] and the club are now bringing legal actions against Uefa at Swiss civil court. "Civil court already gave the players the right to play [before the games]; that was not respected by the Uefa. This is a serious violation of Swiss laws and may result [in] penal proceedings." Anyone know what their chairman has done to make them claim this?
MC Prussian Posted 6 September 2011 Author Posted 6 September 2011 The whole affair is not sat out yet. It all goes back to the year 2009, when Sion were hit by a transfer ban for "two transfer periods" after the alleged illegal acquisition of Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary from Al-Ahly Cairo. Now, Constantin is arguing over the actual length of the ban ("two transfer periods" can mean many things) and over which institution was actually completing the transfers - according to Constantin, it was a "non-club affair", but rather business done by an outsourced public company. Meanwhile, Sion were still signing new players left and right - which wasn't illegal, as long as there was no clear outcome in sight. It's going to be quite an ordeal, Constantin is known to use up all his legal resources to get things "right". I'd love to put the blame on him and his reoccurring crazy antics bordering to megalomania, but it's not like the UEFA and the Swiss Football Federation SFV have been completely honest and transparent in their justifications, either. For instance, only a minority of lawyers representing the body they were appealing at actually showed up to discuss the case to come to a conclusion. The recent swift decision can also be interpreted as a hurried sign of a footballing body trying to maintain a steady composure and save face. Celtic might play European football, Sion might get the nod still, the whole Europa League could face a crisis because the schedules could be affected if this saga continues for too long without a clear verdict.
MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 A Swiss court in the Canton (County) of Vaud has overturned the decision by the UEFA and reinstated FC Sion in the Europa League with an interim injunction. Hello Celtic fans: I can't wait until they find out about it. Meanwhile, I'll just browse through their Europa League threads.
StanSP Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 How does a Swiss court have power to do that over UEFA?
MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 How does a Swiss court have power to do that over UEFA? I'm not a specialist in sports law, but for certain cases, the UEFA allows clubs to appeal at a local court (all things concerning employment issues, I assume), when matters need to be resolved rather quickly. Otherwise, you'd have to go and ask the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) for assistance and they usually take more time. The local court has today come to the conclusion that FC Sion have done nothing wrong with regards to player acquisitions, so the ball is now back on UEFA's pitch.

MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 Final verdict to be expected at 2pm UK time. Court urges UEFA to re-admit Sion [/color] A Swiss regional court has ordered UEFA to re-admit Sion to the Europa League group stages, according to the club.Tue, 13 Sep 12:55:49 2011 Sion were excluded from the tournament on September 2 for fielding ineligible players, with Celtic promoted to the competition in their place. UEFA are currently hearing the Swiss club's appeal against their expulsion ahead of Thursday's opening group game against Atletico Madrid. A statement on Sion's official website read: "The civil court has this morning ordered UEFA to admit FC Sion as a participant in the 2011-12 Europa League and to take all the measures necessary to include them in Group I of the UEFA Europa League for which FC Sion have qualified." The statement continued: "The Canton de Vaud Tribune also orders UEFA to consider the players Stefan Glarner, Billy Ketkeophomphone, Mario Mutsch, Pascal Feindouno, Jose Goncalves and Gabri as eligible as FC Sion players and to admit them in the 2011-12 UEFA Europa League. "The order has been declared immediately binding." ] http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/13092011/63/court-urges-uefa-re-admit-sion.html I don't know what Celtic fans are getting at. If a court has decided that FC Sion has done nothing wrong, why keep calling the Swiss side "cheats"?
MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 Almost 48hrs before kick off and 2 clubs are preparing trips to Madrid for a game. Ath madrid at this stage dont even know who is playing. Supporters of Madrid want to see Celtic. They have never even heard of Sion. Celtic supporters have and are travelling as we speak to the game and no doubt the crazy Swiss are travelling aswell. Uefa have well and truelly effed up and should be ashamed of themselves. To many of the public are out of pockets because of these clowns whoever they support http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/8575246/18/ Celtic fans: Admit it, you lost over the course of two games against some minnows from Switzerland. That alone is shameful.
The Doctor Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Billy Ketkeophomphone why is it his surname sounds like a really cool new musical instrument?
MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 Sion have lost their appeal and Celtic are participating in the Europa League. http://news.bbc.co.u...ll/14900965.stm Cheap Celtic bastards. They were almost on a collective heart attack, not knowing whether their cheap flights to Madrid would have to be cancelled or not. Meanwhile, Sion have announced they will appeal again and go as far as calling for the European Supreme Court.
