More than 130 officers will be on duty to try to prevent a repeat of violent clashes which have marred previous derby games. A large crowd, including more than 6,000 away fans, is expected to descend on the Ricoh Arena tomorrow. The kick-off has been brought forward to 12.30pm to reduce the risk of drink-fuelled fighting and police chiefs have issued a warning to any hooligans that trouble will not be tolerated. Insp Malcolm Prestwich, match day policing commander, said: “Our clear message to any potential troublemakers is that in Coventry we will not hesitate to deal with you robustly. “We will be very proactive in tackling any potential disorder and would remind anyone intent on causing trouble that they may be liable to arrest and football banning orders.” More than 70 officers from the West Midlands will be policing the game, along with more than 60 drafted in from Leicestershire, Warwickshire and British Transport Police. Pc Dave Mapp, of West Midlands Police’s force football unit, said: “We will have a large away fan contingent and we are expecting a 20,000 crowd, so there will be a solid police presence to see this operation goes through smoothly.
