Karljohn Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Going for a a 2-1 win, and Waghorn to come off the bench and get us the winner, was told by a Cov fan that Cov can barely put a team out for this but I dont expect them to be a walkover, my only worry is that our new boys are still finding their feet but we have enough for a slender win
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Hopes are high and on paper we should murder them. 1-1. nailed on
dannythefox Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 3-1 but it would be very nice to start with a clean sheet away from home!
Fox92 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 With the teams on paper, we are obviously looking better, so we should win. Even though, its not as easy as that, I have full confidence of Sven bringing home 3 points from the Richo for the first time. I think a 0-3 win for Leicester. Scorers: Matt Mills (with a bullet header from a set piece), Andy King and Dave Nugent. Really excited for this one, obviously, it is the first game of the season Come on Leicester
nuttytimmy Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Having never won at the Ricoh? With all this hype? We're gonna be losers in a dismal 1-0 reverse. Pessimism aside, it's about time we got a result out of the Sky Blues and about time, too, that we broke our duck at the Ricoh. So, I'm going to plump for a 2-0 Foxes victory. I am an optimist, after all!
Aylestone Fox Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 We never seem to completely commit ourselves to the cause of winning at Coventry. For me there is only one acceptable tactic after scoring a goal and that is to keep pressing the opposition as early as possible and to try to score again. The whole idea of trying to cling onto a lead is anathema to me because, too often, it simply doesn't work. Furthermore I don't see any merit in doing anything but trying to win this season - home and away - and that means leaving the traps much faster than we usually do and sustaining some proper tempo which, again, has often not been the case. That's not to say we should be kamikaze, it's to say we should be ruthless. Get the ball quickly, pass it even quicker, get support forward fast when we're in possession and never stop trying to create chances and trying to score from them. What I expect is something much more neutral and which will produce the usual close game and probably have people carping their usual "so long as we draw away and win at home," analysis which we've never made work yet, at least from my memory over the last 10 years. It'll make our task harder not having any kind of recognised potency in attack which means that so long as Coventry play determined football in defence they'll likely have a chance of pinching a goal and perhaps a point or more because I sure don't see how we'll get two goals or more judging by how slow we seem to be at converting defence to attack with any worthwhile numbers. I'd like to say our defence is so good now we won't concede and will win 1-0 but Leicester don't seem to do "nil against" very often and looked as self-destructive as ever against Real. So I'll go for another typically uninspiring derby-day draw at 1-1 and early comments of "Trust Sven, we'll be brilliant soon." Dogged maybe, combative maybe, but brilliant? No. We're much too short of pace and penetration for brilliant. PS: Looks forward to being spectacularly wrong!. Quality post and my thoughts echo this, though we can produce quality football we lack that pacey incisiveness. Robbie Keane will help resolve that when he joins on a yeal long loan deal,... I'm going to the Ricoh for the first time to see the Blue Army outsing the scum and show a team what real support is like,....Come on you blues.....
BlueSi13 Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 Never won at the Ricoh, Coventry always start well, away from home, local derby, and we are now the subject of scorn from every club in the league with them all wanting to make a point against us. 1-1
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 7-0 to us. *On a serious note, we SHOULD (being the operative word) bloody slaughter these.
MikeyT Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 New season starts here. Really excited. I'm going all out and saying we will win 0-4. Nugent, King, Danns and Gally with the goals. Dream start that would be.
MikeyT Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2011/08/05/major-police-operation-for-coventry-city-s-season-opener-against-leicester-city-92746-29182588/ A MAJOR police operation is being planned for Coventry City’s opening game of the season against local rivals Leicester City. More than 130 officers will be on duty to try to prevent a repeat of violent clashes which have marred previous derby games. A large crowd, including more than 6,000 away fans, is expected to descend on the Ricoh Arena tomorrow. The kick-off has been brought forward to 12.30pm to reduce the risk of drink-fuelled fighting and police chiefs have issued a warning to any hooligans that trouble will not be tolerated. Insp Malcolm Prestwich, match day policing commander, said: “Our clear message to any potential troublemakers is that in Coventry we will not hesitate to deal with you robustly. “We will be very proactive in tackling any potential disorder and would remind anyone intent on causing trouble that they may be liable to arrest and football banning orders.” More than 70 officers from the West Midlands will be policing the game, along with more than 60 drafted in from Leicestershire, Warwickshire and British Transport Police. Pc Dave Mapp, of West Midlands Police’s force football unit, said: “We will have a large away fan contingent and we are expecting a 20,000 crowd, so there will be a solid police presence to see this operation goes through smoothly.
