cairnsy Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Schmeical - 9 - superb saves Pantsil - 7 solid ( get better boots, slipped 3 times on important occasions) Mills - 7 shakey in parts but some brilliant blocks near the end Bamba - 6 almost cost a goal today idk how he managed to save himself vs 3 players Konchesky - 8 very good solid all round performance Wellans - 8 played well in first half, blowing out his ass later in the 2nd half Danns - 8 worked his ass off today and played well Fernandez - 8 same as danns King - 4 1 assist and nothing else Schlupp - 5 made some runs but didn't not track runs or pressure defenders Vassell - 6 good outlet with nugent absent but poor last 15 mins

I know Stringer and Young are little to go by, but he assisted the second goal, had a penalty shout (according to Stringer, not Young), was full of running and did a good job at the end by e.g. winning a free-kick up their end. Please correct us unfortunate enough not to see it.

I'd personally cut him some slack. But that's just me.

Schmeical - 9 - kept us in the game. Pantsil - 7 good but was slipping a lot and his slip contributed to their first goal - change of boots? Mills - 7 looking better Bamba - 7.5 largely a rock, but tries to take on too much at times Konchesky - 7.5 some nice runs and good tackles. Wellans - 7 played well in first half poor in second (EDIT: 8 just for that fantastic goal!) Danns - 8 ran and ran, commited! Fernandez - 8.5 ran and ran PLUS some great passes - seemed to tire later on. King - 6 he IS the invisble man. Shot just wide in the 2nd half, but that was all I saw. Schlupp - 6.5 he's not the answer at this level (yet) - we DO need another striker. Vassell - 7 positionally excellent and was moving into space that sadly the players on the ball didn't notice. Gally - 7.5 some nice passes and got stuck in more than usual. Abe & Nugent not on the pitch long enough at either end of the game.

Ran at defenders and tried to take them on which no-one else does (except Bamba ) Didnt work for him when he was pushed out of his natural position but cut him some slack, this was a tough game for us, he's 18 and a great, great prospect for seasons to come, lets not knock him too early. He won us some vital free kicks near the end which helped run down the clock and set Wellens up for his goal. He was a damn sight better than Vassell in the 2nd half too!

He even saved a goal with his Pantsil - 7.5 - Sometimes shaky, But is a cracking defender full of passion. Mills - 6.75 - Sort yourself out son. Bamba - 6.75 - CLEAR IT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD Koncehsky - 8 - Love this guy Wellens - 7.5 - This guy is vital, Slopy at times like the team though Danns - 7 - Set peices are good and is a great midfielder, Can perform better though Fernandes - 8 - PASSION, Runs into everything, Great tackling, Never stops working King - 6 - Please show yourself more. Vassell - 7.5 - Good goal, Closing down is good. Wants the best for the team Shclupp - 6.75 - Needs time to learn, Vassell would be a great tutor as he said so himself, He is exactly like him but younger.

Fernandes - 8 Class act bossed the midfield Danns - 8 Used the ball well and worked hard throughout King - 6 Set up goal well but goes missing alot Wellens - 8 Class finish and nice use of the ball. . Vassell - 7 Scored and made some good runs, looked tired towards the end. Schlupp - 5 Playing out wide doesn't suit him.

One crucial block. Konchesky 7 - had a superb second half as well as his best game for us so far. Mills 8 - he's amazing at defending when we have backs to the wall. One crucial block late on. Bamba 6 - defended well, but his confidence could've put us in a hell of a lot of trouble. Wellens 7 - kept things ticking over, scored with a lovely goal, touch let him down a few times. King 7 - got in some great positions, unlucky not to score, better work ethic today. Fernandes 7 - awesome work rate, hassled well and bar a great save, unlucky with a good header. Danns 7 - tricky, always seemed to offer himself, a great player to have. Vassell 8 - looks a different player up front, nice finish, very busy. Great first touch. Nugent N/A. Schlupp 7 - had a great 40 minutes after GE found his feet. Gonna be a top player. Gallagher 6 - got more stuck in today added some composure.

I think he will be a brilliant player and certainly did well to setup the second goal, but on the wing I don't think he looks comfortable and lost the ball several times. None-the-less the experience will do him really good and I'm sure he will start to show his class in the league very soon.

Bamba - 6.5 - Too cocky by half. Sometimes just put your foot through the ball man! Mills - 6.5 - Still not convinced by him either. Konchesky - 7 - Solid, got forward well and put in some decent crosses. Fernandes - 8 - Class act, runs the show, never tires. Great player. Wellens - 7.5 - Nicely taken goal, always looking for the pass, mostly paid off. King - 6 - Disappeared on too many occasions. The system change didn't suit him at all. Danns - 7 - Decent, always looked to go forward first half. Vassell - 7 - Kept at it. Looked better alongside Schlupp than on his own. Nugent - N/a - Shame about the injury. Subs: Schlupp - 7 - Decent in a 4-4-2 and out of position in a 4-3-3. Not his fault. Gallagher - 6 - Ok. Abe - 6 - Ok. Sven - 1st half - 9 - KEEP THE DIAMOND!!! 2nd half - 2 - DO NOT PLAY A 4-3-3 WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE PERSONNEL TO DO SO!!! Our tactical decisions were woeful in the 2nd half and should have cost us but didn't thanks to Kasper 'world class saves x3' Schmeichel. Southampton, yes a decent side, but so are we and we mullered them in the first half. So why give them the opportunity to get back into it with this ultra defensive 4-5-1/4-3-3 rubbish?!?! Bring in two new strikers, keep the diamond and teams will fear us. Bring it on next game.
