marbelladave Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 From the West stand... Schmeichel 8.5. Very good in almost every respect, still just a touch too mouthy for me. Needs to be a bit more physical in his 6 yard box, particularly on crosses / corners. Some fine saves second half. Pantsil 7. Put under pressure throughout, he got precious little support from midfield and found himself outnumbered much too often. Slipped in the build up for the goal though. Mills 7. Continued improvement but not yet the dominating figure we saw last season. His physicality is improving but he still looks a but slow and not as fit as he should be. Bamba 8. Continues to look the man most likely to cock up but never actually does. His pace and quick thinking saved us a number of times second half, should have been credited with the goal, really attacked the ball. Konchesky 8. Bit patchy still but probably his best game for us, held up very well with virtually no cover from Danns. Strange to say the only help he got was from Gallagher when he came on. Wellens 7. Rather better than last week in that he did a lot more with the ball going forward, fine goal though i thought he was going to faint when it flew in. Defensively he remains hit and miss, some decent tackles and a bit of tidying up but the opposition still finds acres of space in front of our back 4. Danns 6. Decent enough first half going forward but totally irrelevant second. Seemed to show his displeasure at being pushed out on the left with a total refusal to give his fullback any help whatsoever. Fernandez 7.5. Good first half but he appeared totally lost when asked to do a more defensive job in the second, stange as I thought this was his forte. King 6. Worked hard to get involved but has no real idea how to play attacking midfield, redeemed slightly by his assist and one good run. Schlupp 6.5 Replaced Nugent after just a few minutes, he had a good first half playing down the middle, great assist for Wellens goal. Asked to play wide right in the second his contribution was negligable. Vassell 7. Strong first half and a good goal, left on his own in the second he pretty much ran himself to a standstill by the 60 minute mark. Gallagher 7. Replaced Danns on the left and was more efective than Danns, particularly in defence. Abe n/a. Fresh legs for a tiring Wellens, ok - ish.
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Lallana looks a class player based on reports and seeing him today, and yeah pantsil seemed to struggle. Lambert did drop off and link bits of the play but that tended to be away from the back 4. Everytime Lallana had the ball in the final third though we were disected. Mills is starting to improve based on today, and so long as Bamba stops dribbling six yards out from our goal then hopefully the partnership will start to improve.
broughtonblue Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Got to agree with everyone w***ing over schmichael today he was excellent, and definately saved us the points in the 2nd half, but last week he cost us the points, very short memories!
Jobyfox Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Schmeichel- 8.5: Did not have much to do first half, but kept us in the game towards the end Pantsil- 7: Looked ok mostly, but slipped for Soton's first goal and looked like he'd got the wrong studs on Mills- 7: A better game from MM, but he still looks a bit scared for me when he's on the ball Bamba- 7: Scary when he goes walkabout with the ball, but still our most consistent defender Konchesky- 7.5: Best game for us, so far, but overall I've been disappointed. Looks a good solid Championship pro, but I'm still not sure how he played for Liverpool Fernandes- 7.5: Get's an extra 0.5 for his enthusiasm and energy Wellens- 9: Has to be MOTM for me as he simply ran the game for an hour before he tired King- 6.5: The assist for the goal, but faded in the 2nd half Danns- 7: Starting to understand his role in the team Vassell- 8.5: I thought that Vassell led the line really well today and was isolated in the 2nd half. Lumping up balls to him to hold up is not his game (Sven!) and he is not a lone forward in a 4-5-1 Nugent- N/A Schlupp- 6.5: Scared the Soton defence with his pace in the 1st half. Wasn't in the game in the 2nd, which is not entirely his fault.
ajthefox Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 To be fair, it's harsh to say Schmeichel cost us all 3 points last week. Granted he got himself sent off which was a major problem, but he didn't give away the penalty and he definitely wasn't the one who fluffed the cross they scored from.
ithuriel Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Smeichel..........9 pantsil..............6 Mills.................6 Bamba.............7 Konchesky.......6 Danns..............6 another ref would have given him a red for that challenge, could have has us down to ten men. King.................6 Wellens............7 Fernandes.......8 Vassell.............7 Nugent....injured early on so can't really mark him. ..... Schluup...........6 need's experience and an old head to give him advice, laid on our second very nicely. Gallagher........5 Abe..................5
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Quick points on two players: King: many have said "all he did was the assist" and rated him poorly. Firstly, I'll take someone doing little but making a goal every game, suppose you're getting your same logic from the school of thought "all Yakubu does is score goals". Secondly, King does the little things well. Yes I'd like to see him dominate midfield with his ability a little more. But even if he's not massively involved, he rarely gives the ball away, holds good defensive positions ensuring no-one he is marking causes too much damage by cleverly shielding them into less dangerous areas, and frequently makes forward runs that other players don't see or have the confidence to play him in on. In the first half in particular I thought he looked on his game, getting involved with our build-up and winning a few free-kicks and corners by taking it past people. Mills: Just to say he was okay, by Mills' Leicester standard so far. Yes he made a couple of blocks but has anyone actually picked up on the lovely flick-on to the far post for Connoly to nod in?! If you're at the edge of that six yard box when a corner comes in your job is to put it anywhere other than behind you. Poor judgement on his part.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 What is it with people rating Wellens 6 or 7 <_< he was brilliant today, won the ball many times and scored a quality goal. shame he was shattered after 60 - 70 minutes but he has played every minute in all league games
Brainy Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I'll give the youngsters a couple of extra gold stars on top the next time If he does read this, hopefully it will spurn him on to be a great player. actually agree with the WUM. Nothing against Schlupp but he's already shown he's decent by his goals in the LC. If he has a bad game then he has a bad game, just cause he's young doesnt mean you can +2 his rating
Brown Fox Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Don't think he was impressive, he was quietly impressive in the first half, in the first 45 he played very well but in the second half he looked shaky. Lambert and Lallana were tearing us apart especially Mills and Pantsil, Mills got in some crucial blocks but his performance dipped they cut through him at times with ease, and if Schmeichel wasn't inbetween our sticks we would of lost. Think we dealt with Lambert very well today and made him look very ordinary. Lallana on the other hand is class and would cause chaos with all defenders in this league. The midfield should have stayed tighter with him I wouldn't blame Mills.
Goddard Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 When I see the poor ratings for Fernandez I wonder if these people actually understand the game of football. He was excellent. Pure passion.
Goddard Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Mills did not win the majority of headers against lambert. That is absolute bull
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 He did. The only time they had real success in the air was when Lambert was pushed onto pantsil and even then I can only think of one example when he managed to bring the ball down. As was said a few posts ago it was the midfields job to stay tight with Lallana etc which they struggled with at times.
Babylon Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 He did. The only time they had real success in the air was when Lambert Eh... Lambert won almost everything against Mills.
Callabinho Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 This is what I thought! Schmeichel -8 made some amazing saves a kept us in the game. Paintsil -7 thought he had a relatively solid game, though Lalana had him in knots at times, but he was the best player of the pitch, couldn't do much coming forwards due to our lack of movemen upfront. Bamba-7 we saw both sides to Bamba's game today he put in some brilliant tackle's and then that absolute bomb scare moment at the back when he thought he was ronaldinho! Mills -7 had a better game today! He won MOST of his headers against a biig Lambert! His passing was suspect at times but his defending was superb a couple of brilliant block tackles. Konchesky - 6 had a steady game defensively buy not much for him ahead of him so attacking wise he struggled a bit, made a few decent runs though! Quality run if his touch didn't allude him in the second half! Fernandes -10 have to give the guy a ten simply because he runs his Swiss heart out! Rarely gies the ball away and his pure persistence creates chances! I really like Fernandes he could be the difference for us this season! Wellens -8 thought he was good today! Made a few cracking passes out wide to Danns and schlupp, he did get cought a few times but our movement today wasn't sharp enough. King -4 had a very poor game, didn't seem to be marking anyone! He rarely put his opposing midfielder under pressure and stood ball watching quite often, as soon as Johnson is fit I think kingy will be benched. Danns- 7 thought dannsy had a great second half! He tried to create opportunities even when there was nothing on! He is starting to show his quality, technically is one of our best players! Schlupp- 7 much better today, seems a bit more confident, would like to see him use his pace a bit more but I was happy with his contribution today! Vassell - 6 the most frustrating player we have, one minuet his pace is deverstating, the next he is hobbling around like an old man, he didn't have hi best game today, still in deperate need of a new striker. Over all we did OKAY, I roughy we allowed Southampton to have too much of the ball! And at times in midfield we got way to tight and let them pull of quick flicks around the corner or we didn't pit any pressure on at all! You have to ask questions about the back four though, why have mills and Bamba allowed two players to effectively have easy headed goals, both could have been avoided! Needs sorting but at least we beat top of the table! Very impressed with them!

Played the holding role and was heavily involved through out, lots of hussle, a fair degree of commitment yet Southampton were continually getting past and attacking our back 4 with numbers....... OK, Southampton are a decent team going forward and if it was just yesterdays game I would not be that bothered, but it's not, it happens way too often for my liking. If you are going to play the anchor role and take charge, as Wellens likes to do, you had better be pretty good at it, but he's not, against the better sides anyway. Like you, I saw he was heavily involved but he is the kind of player who is always noticed. What I also saw was the acres of space in front of our back 4 that our holding player should have been controlling, but wasn't. Can't fault his effort yesterday (not always the case), but his effectiveness ws really disappointing.
accessory Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Schmeichel - 9* Pantsil - 7 Mills - 7 Bamba - 7 Konchesky - 7 Wellens - 7 Fernandes - 7 King - 5 Danns - 7 Vassell - 7 Nugent - n/a Schlupp - 6 Gallagher - 6 Abe - n/a
bmt Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 How people are not giving Schmeichel 10 I do not understand, several world class saves that saved us from losing, nevermind preserving the 3 points.
Munzie Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 When I see the poor ratings for Fernandez I wonder if these people actually understand the game of football. He was excellent. Pure passion. Fernandes was the reason that Southampton exploited us down their left flank throughout the 1st half. His constant drifting inside left Pantsil the impossible task of picking up two attacking players. Look at the replay in the build up to their first goal. I imagine Sven changed things around and told Fernandes to stay in position during the 2nd half to help plug the gaps that the Saints were exposing. Running around the pitch "like a rash" may endear him to some, but he created all sorts of problems for our defence.
iancognito Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Kasper - 9 - Amazing in the 2nd half Pantsil - 6 - Not convinced yet but you can't fault his energy Konchesky - 6 - Maybe I expect too much but he's not in the game enough Mills - 6 - Two great blocks, unlucky with a first half header but passing is shocking Bamba - 7 - Got lucky 2nd half but put in some great blocks, cool as ever Wellens - 8 - Great finish, neat link ups but faded at the end maybe with a knock? Fernandes - 9* - Not as great 2nd half but was at the heart of everything in the 1st and was unlucky not to score. Danns - 8 - Dangerous corners, a lot of work put in around the box, looks the part. King - 6 - 1 cross & 1 shot aside, he drifted in & out of the game Vassell - 7 - Really needs support up there, but a neat finish. Schlupp - 6 - Not quite ready for this level but please play him in the middle Sven FFS. Subs, no real impact so..... Gally - 5 Abe - 5
iancognito Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I imagine Sven changed things around and told Fernandes to stay in position during the 2nd half to help plug the gaps that the Saints were exposing. Yeah, that worked We ended up chasing the game. Gelson was awesome in the first half and we might have got on better if the Swede had left things alone.
chesterfox Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Oh the wonderful game of football - all these opinions - all different and all right - a first home victory a good display and 3 points in the bag against a very good side. That'll do for me for now! We seem still very nervous at home and it might yet take some time to gel but let's be right yesterday's was a decent display and a very good game of football. The biggest problem for me is that I dont believe Sven sets the team up to finish games off - against the scum we should have gone on to slaughter them and likewise v Saints. We came out in the second half thinking all we had to do was to see out the time - very dangerous. Anyway I was well pleased with the end result - and i struggle to put up with negative people in general but Jeez some folk on here!!!!! Schmeicel - 9 - was obviously keen to show his worth after last week's debacle - great character and some outstanding saves Pantsil - 7 sort your boots out matey - it cost us a goal Mills - 6 doesnt look the player he was at Reading does he but will hopefully grow Bamba - 7 awesome but at times crazy - Konchesky - 8 had a good game made some effective runs and passes and challenges King - 7 lay off him guys - he is still developing - bit short on fitness but great assist and near miss Wellens - 9 man of the match performance - was everywhere and led by example Gelson - 8 has real quality and hunger and guile Danns - 8 impressive - is growing game by game Vassell 8 probably surprised he had to play 90mins! took his goal very well but tired Nugent n/a Schlupp 7 wtf guys give him a break - he did everything asked of him and won plenty of free kicks and his assist was very good Defensively still concerned and the fact that we allowed Southampton to have the ball for long periods of time but we have the framework of being a really good side - a little short in depth surprisingly - if Waggy was good enough he'd be taking his chance now
Night Air Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Schmeical - 8 - brilliant saves but his distrubition wasn't great. Pantsil - 7 - hard working and did some good but unfortunatly some bad. Mills - 6 - a better performance but still needs improvement. Bamba - 7 - put in some vital blocks but was a bit too clever and paid the price a few times. Konchesky - 8 - brilliant free kicks and did a few forward runs which is what i want from the full backs. Fernandes - 7 - lots of energy and some good passing. Wellens - 9 - brilliant goal and my man of the match. excellent passing and drove the team forward. King - 7 - did some brilliant balls into the box and was unfortunate not to score. Danns - 7 - lots of energy and again unfortunate not to score. Schlupp - 7 - didn't do as much running as i thought he could but was probably still tired or being conservative of his energy. Vassell - 8 - nice to see him score with a nice finish and gave their defence a hard time.
bald reynard Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Schmeichel - 9 Had nothing to do in the first half, won us 2 points in the second. Pantsil - 6 Offered nothing going forward, was solid for most of the game. Bamba - 6.5 Again was our best centre half, but every time he tries to play the ball with his feet I have a heart attack. Mills - 5 Right. Why the **** is this guy our captain? This is a stupid decision by Sven...how on earth can he be expected to mouth off and tell players what to do when he's only be an employee at the club for a month? He said nothing today - there was no shouting, no organisation, nothing. And can you blame him? You wouldn't go into any other job and with only a month with your feet under the desk start telling experienced employees what to do. In my view Sven has severly hampered his performances by burdening him with the position of captain over a team he barely ****ing knows anything about. He was poor again today but I know he can do better. Sven has made the wrong call. Konchesky - 6.5 Got forward, but did little. Same as Pantsil really. Fernandes - 7 Chased the ball down, looked busy. Wellens - 8 Again for long periods of the game he was the only player who could create a goal. Again. It was madness to take him off IMO. Should be captain. King - 6 As can be expected, another anonymous performance. And no goal to justify his place in the team... Danns - 6.5 Busy. Not as effective as he should have been. Nugent - N/A Vassell - 6.5 Did a job. We really need more pace up front though. Schlupp - 7 Did vey well. Kept the ball well, obviously has potential. BUT was badly out of position at the start of the 2nd half. I think we played 4-4-2 but he drifted because he wanted to become more involved in the game. I really do. Sven should have been shouting at him to play higher up the field.... Agree with all that. Spot on Leicesterseddon !
