Disappointed in the fans

I find it hard to believe some of the posters on here even bother to turn up at football matches . Honestly you would be better off going to knitting circles at least you would not have to put up with nasty people shouting abuse at each other . Why only the other day I was at the Brighton match and can you believe it for some inexplicable reason just about every one in the ground ( not Brighton fans ) shouted as the opposition goal keeper went to take a goal kick --aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh your shit wwaaaaahhhhh ! It's all very well calling someone a Pakistani or a Homosexual but Shit ? No that is going to far and all of you who did that should be damn well ashamed of your selves .

You're hilariously witty and sarcastic.

How do you know?

This comes up literally every time we play Brighton and frankly it's getting very boring. I can't be arsed to read the whole thread as I'm pretty sure I know what the general argument pattern will be.

I'm gay and the majority of my family on my dad's side is from India. So you would imagine that I fit pretty well into the groups that should be most offended by the chants referenced in the OP?

But I'm not offended. There is a difference between insulting stuff which ultimately shouldn't be sung at all in a football ground by any decent human (the two chants in the OP for example), and comical stuff like "Does your boyfriend know you're here?!" (which I gladly join in with whenever we're playing Brighton). But neither offends me, or puts me off going to the football - it just makes me feel sorry that such low-life muppets who gain pleasure in singing such stuff exist. My pity is with them, not myself.

And I'm absolutely sure that this is the case for pretty much anyone who considers themselves a member of any "minority group". Okay I agree that it of course is disappointing that there are people within our own ranks who think that singing "Town full of faggots" is in any way funny, but this constant suggestion that there are people who actually take offence to such stuff is, in my experience, entirely mythical...

It's a chant for christ sake, no one got injured or killed through it. Didn't bother me when we got racist chants at us, its what you expect at a football game. If things like this were out of football then there would be no atmosphere at all, be just like the rugby. Grow up.

After seeing the growing proportion of 'banter' worshipping neandrathals who think they have a right to say what people should be offended by. My departure from this forum is confirmed.Goodbye. :fox:

My point exactly, it's not an issue with banter.

I'm a compulsive liar...or am I?

I'd go for "YES", you are.

If I went some where for the first time be it a football match or anywhere else and found I was insulted by what was being said or chanted I would simply never go to that place again . That would be my most logical option because I would not change a bloody thing by going on to a web site such as this and begin winging about how my feelings have been hurt or that nasty people should know better . If any of the wingers on here have the real balls try standing up and telling people off at the actual game. If not stop away and don't come onto a football site like this because you will not get much sympathy .

I did try.

Funnily enough, they didn't listen.

I don't think many football fans leave away grounds and head straight for the local police station claiming to be verbally assualted by 5,000 people singing "Your a town full of faggots/pakis/inbreds".

It's happened for years and will continue for many to come...as it's seen as banter.

I don't agree that it's right to chant such comments but what everyone has to understand is that no-one is directing such insults to one individual its just to the place/cultural environment that the club is from.

If you have a major issue with it, then perhaps going to the ground and sitting in the kop sections isn't the best idea....sit in the family stand or West stand or watch the games on tv...you may not want to but you won't find this kind of banter there...problem solved.
