MC Prussian Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Just been reading their forum. Could they be less arrogant if they tried? Things will balance themselves out over the course of an entire season, so plenty of time to get that stock of humble pie back up.
BlueSi13 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 incorrect. **** off Pompey, Pompey **** off - banter where were you when you were shit - banter your mums your dad, your dads your mum - banter. town full of faggots - vitriolic town full of pakis - racist hillsborough/Munich chants - disgusting This. I feel like going up town and finding a homosexual asian fellow so i can call him a faggot paki bastard right to his face....oh but don't worry its just "banter" im sure he'd just laugh and go home feeling all warm and toasty inside at the thought that people like that could still exist in 2011.
Charl91 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 But Brighton fans laugh at it... Derby get called sheep shaggers... All of this is a tad OTT... I wasn't complaining about calling them "faggots". I just think it's not a very subtle or funny chant, that's all. It's basically shouting "your gay" or them shouting "your brown". I don't mind if people utilise the homosexual stereotype, since each town has their own stereotype - it's just I'd like to think our fans could come up with something wittier then that. Otherwise it's not really banter, just infantile insults. The "does your boyfriend know you're here" one is class though.
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Sorry if it's already bean mentioned (I haven't read the entire thread) but we would no doubt've been regailed with "one-nil to the nancy boys" by the Brighton fans had they scored first just as they did at Bristol last week. They love to play along with this gay thing. BINGO ! Nail on the head....
Wymsey Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Sometimes I dread watching home matches, shit atmosphere and a majority of the singing from the L1 area is shit and embarrassing and gets criticized afterwards, feeling awful being a lcfc supporter at home. I miss Filbo Street in this respect. Shoot me now.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 I didn't hear any of this "banter" or anything - and i think it's been well discussed so far in this thread........ I'm disappointed in our fans for different reasons. Today I thought the team were great. I thought the fans were......supportive. Which certainly doesn't always happen. I think it's a real shame that as a collective unit the LCFC fans don't seem to really get behind the team unless we're aggrieved by a crappy ref decision or a "cheating" player or such like. Also I think any neutrals today would have come away thinking that the LCFC fans are quite spiteful and just a bit mean spirited really.
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 This. That so over the top that i need a step ladder...
21st Century Fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 I think that the term "faggots" is quite humurous personally. If offense was the main purpose of the chant there are alot of words which could have been chosen which don't contain any humour, meat or cereal ... seems like banter to me and i think it's pretty sad that people are falling over themselves these days to be the most politically correct and offended person on behalf of a group they don't belong to anyway. But then most people don't know the meanings of most of the words they use as 'banter'. Considering that a faggot is a bale of sticks that is thrown on a fire and years ago gay men were thrown into fires because of their sexuality, so the use of the word faggot is denoting how someone is potentially going to meet their end because of their sexuality.
Kitchandro Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 There's a difference between banter and prejudice. You don't understand or appreciate that because you are part of the 'norm' or fail to sympathise with minorities. and don't like this thread, leave it. Works both ways. People won't leave this thread because they feel that it's a bunch of bollocks, and that if you're going to slate our fans then they are going to want to tell you that you are talking our of your arsehole. There is a difference between banter a prejudice, you're confusing the 2 and that's why this thread is bollocks. Let me ask you, how many of those people chanting today do you think actually don't like gay people, or judge them, or see them in a negative light? As I've said, I am friends with a couple of gay people, top lads, and me and the rest of my mates have gay banter with them all the while. They laugh it off like any other banter. Am I prejudiced? And as if some homosexual football fans have gone home this evening and cried in a toilet or something

5waller5 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 http://www.northstandchat.com/forum.php Thanks .... I wish i hadn't looked! I'm even more embarrassed by our PC brigade now they are going on to away forums desperately wanting to be liked for sticking up for them.

I'm sure all gay people are so touchy that they have researched this <_< Then I'm sure they have chosen to take offence to the word when used in banter, even though they know the majority of people don't really know the context of it.

My girIfriend lives with three gay guys, and I found it a bit awkward at first because whenever something/someone annoyed me, without thinking I'd automatically say something like "that's so gay/homo"; then I'd apologise because I thought it might have offended them. The reality is though that they weren't offended at all, infact they call each other "faggot" all the time. Insults are all about context.

TheAlbion25 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 As a Brighton fan, we're used to all the homophobic chants, because most Brighton fans aren't gay, but hey "You're too ugly to be gay." On a side note, I thought you played well, conquered our game, played your game well, but I do feel your players went down far to easily, as for the Mackail-Smith miss! All in all, you did deserve to win
Charl91 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 She told you this ? If they're not, then hats off to them - they've gone to a bloody lot of effort to fool me!

Yojoe36 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 People who are offended by direct insults are weak minded, because the people who give them are thick. So you should think "I'm better at life than them"

Bugg Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 The only thing I'm disappointed about our fans is that the Yuki Abe fooking dog chant is still doing the rounds.
TheAlbion25 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Saying all this, your fans were shocking today, we completely out sung you through and through.
