Vacamion Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Anybody read Matthew Syed's article in the Times today, about offensive chanting? [Can't post a link to it because the paper charges for online content.] It spelled out in detail some of the most offensive chants (the Adebayor stuff, the chants about Munich). It was bang on.

I read it but it was stating the obvious wasn't it ? Anyone with a brain that is larger than a walnut knows this stuff is wrong and that it's a poor excuse to say it's ok because the fans of opposing teams do it. Other sports don't seem to get this sort of thing. You'd never see it at the Tigers, well, not unless they moved L1 to Welford Road
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 I read it but it was stating the obvious wasn't it ? They have fantastic supporters, who just concentrate on supporting their side. Well done to them.
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Big difference between us and Clough though, I can slightly understand the chanting towards Adebayor after his behaviour towards the Arsenal fans recently. The fans singing about Clougie were probably still in their Dads bollocks when he was a manager, they were few folk more respected than Brian in football.
hackneyfox Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 I only know the gist of the adabayor chant, can anyone tell me what it was in full.
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 It should of been you It should of been youuuuu Killed in Angola It should of been you
Donut Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 How about just vocally support OUR club? Ironic how these pondlife fans sing about other managers dads and anti pc songs and yet cant come up with anything more original than ''Leicester Leicester Leicester'' or singing ring of fire at 400mph
accessory Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 It should of been you It should of been youuuuu Killed in Angola It should of been you Illiteracy and ignorance - what a formidable combination. I bet those gooners had women swooning at their feet..

Webbo Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Do we really want to be like the Tigers though? Polite applause when the opposition scores? Some chants are sick and disgusting but lets not chuck out the baby with the bath water.
panky and our gang Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Babylon good points and i take them on board .
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Illiteracy and ignorance - what a formidable combination. I bet those gooners had women swooning at their feet.. When a group of pissed up football fans are trying to wind someone up i don't think women or the queens English is at the top of the priority list.
Donut Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Not to be like Tigers, just to passionately and loyally support the club I think the level of encouragement transmitted to the players through songs about shooting gunmen, sexuality and death is neglibile at best (i.e. none) On the subject of chants of a sexual nature....who is to say that one of our players isnt gay? just not open
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Other sports dont get this kind of thing because a) Football, for whatever reason, is far more tribal b) Whichever way you look at it, football has a way of attracting fans that are exceptionally thick Because it's a simple game followed by simple people. Harsh but true.
Guest Bilo Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 It should of been you It should of been youuuuu Killed in Angola It should of been you Adebayor Adebayorrrrrrr He used to watch Coach Trip But not any more I know I'm a bad person but that one made me laugh.
panky and our gang Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Thars nowt wrong wi simple folk tha bloody snob .
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Adebayor Adebayorrrrrrr He used to watch Coach Trip But not any more I know I'm a bad person but that one made me laugh. The Spurs fans have got some gall moaning about it considering they use to sing it with "his dad washes elephants and his mothers a whore" while he was at the Arse..
Rhysm Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 They were the normal "He's fat he's round he's six feet underground" chants. But the most brainless and moronic one was "nigel, where's your dad, nigel, nigel, where's your dad" people eh Someone earlier in the thread said that they literally "pissed themselves laughing" when the chants went out. Apart from being totally inappropriate it's embarassing. It is like child in the playground humour.
MrSpaM Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 I'm pretty sure the songs on saturday wernt anything on the scale of what Dave Jones got when he bought Cardiff to the walkers for the past two seasons.
lcfc_sam_p Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 The 'nigel where's your dad' song was sung as derby were singing 'nigel give us a wave', so people just used that same tune to abuse him. I'm not saying these songs are acceptable but people comparing it to somebody random in the street singing a song about mine or your dad is completely different IMO. It wasn't the majority of L that sang them, and it wasn't just L either who say/sing stuff like that. The stereotypes of L block in here are incorrect, and boring.

It always seems to me that L block always start songs, such as 'where were you when we were sh*t?' etc Just saying.
lcfc_sam_p Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 Yeah in L some of those sort of songs do get started. I don't think that song is too bad to be honest, the people that sing it just want the ground to be full every week rather than in a playoff semi or when were collecting the league trophy
Bugg Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 I'm in K block, I can confirm that the stereotypes of L1 are almost 100% true (barring a few)
lcfc_sam_p Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 I'm in L and disagree completely. There are plenty that fit the stereotype, but I wouldn't say its majority. I like how people knock the only vocal part of the ground, and a big percentage of the away following. (I know this is a brian clough thread, I'm not claiming these songs as supporting the team vocally)
