One Arm Babba Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 HA HA. Its not really funny to laugh at someone's misfortune. But, had he accepted a kings ransom for NM and reinvested in his squad, he'd probably still have a job.

Meh, I said it at the time when the saga was ongoing, and i'll say it again, we dodged a bullet. I was never keen on the idea of signing him, certainly not for the money that was being quoted, so it's not a case of sour grapes from me. He's only scored 3 goals this season, you could argue he hasn't got the service or playing in a good team at Bristol City but still, i'm glad we never got him.
Guest shearfox Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 I agree we nearly made a big mistake signing Maynard for the money we were offering. Bristol should have accepted and allowed him to leave huge error on their part I'm happy with Vassell, Schlupp, Beckford and Nugent.
Rustyfox Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 BCFC were fools to reject the money for Maynard. They couldve let Pittman lead the line and invested in quite a few quality championship players for the money that was being mentioned at the time. fools
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 Agree they are idiots, could of got 6million for a championship level striker and refused it. Deserve what they get.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 Bristol City look in a lot of trouble. I would however piss myself laughing if they beat Forest to SO'D.
gazfox9 Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 well, well, well. The deluded wurzels were certain they had a decent chance of the play offs, we tried to tell them..... I still believe Maynard would have been a decent signing, he ruined us that night. On the other hand I wasn't happy paying 6 million!! We can't be sure whether Millen had any say in the blocking of a possible deal, but if he did I'm sure he'll have a few regrets now! Even with half the Maynard fee he'd have improved brizzle massively.
J.Lisemore Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 Sad really, would of loved to see both Millen and Maynard to be relegated together.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 Maynard doesn't seem to be doing much this season.
Legend_in_blue Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 They can rot at the bottom and hopefully look forward to derby games against a similar sized club - Bristol Tinpot Rovers.
Floridafox Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 Its not really deserving of a new topic but didn't know where else to put it. Seeing Millen's demise at Bristol City produced absolutely no sympathy, in fact quite the opposite. He could have used the millions we offered for Maynard for 3 or 4 decent signings and so secure a safe spot in the league. Instead he stubbornly refused every offer and with it lost his job. Yes, that's a gross over simplification but that's the whole point of these posts, isn't it? And it still riles the way we lost to 'them' at home with 'him' scoring both goals (even enjoying the luxury of missing a penalty)

Jaspa Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 I don't think Keith really had last say in a transfer involving NM. Hope they get that Scottish bloke BBC are running, and hope Nickeh dislikes and doesn't score ... and then we swoop for <3M Soooo happy their season looks dead now, same with them urine soaked tree's
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 I think if he'd have been given the money to spend on the squad then he may well have wanted NM sold. But I agree with Mr Chicken above, I really don't think it was anywhere near his decision.
Number 6 Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 So after reading the above do people still want NM here? Would you swoop in January? Personally I would like us to get him nice and cheap in Jan, as even though it may not have the biggest impact this season, he could be vital in future years given his potential. Certainly happy with the 4 strikers we have pushing for a place at the moment though, all very capable.
bcfc_fan Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 For the record even if we had accepted an offer from you Maynard wouldn't have come due to the birth of his son, as i said at the time though, the money being offered we were stupid not to at least accept it. Pitman is just as good as Maynard.

Pitman is just as good as Maynard. I'm not sure you can state that as fact. There's no doubt we'd be offering inflated wages which could have swayed him. Anyway, looks like a terrible decision by your board now. You worried?

Anyway, looks like a terrible decision by your board now. You worried? With regards to Maynard or the season in general? I think its fairly clear maynards not signing an extension so the best is a cut price in Jan to someone like you with a big sell on clause. With regards to the season in general i'm not sure how many BCFC fans realise how important this managerial appointment is, however whoever comes in we have the players to comfortably stay up just need to find the desire. I do fear for the clubs long term aspirations and ambition though and sense a hard few years coming up.

Given that he's not yet signed an extension nor looks like he will, how do your fans feel about NM now? Is the concencus that he led your board to believe he'd sign a new deal, therefore the boards reluctance to sell? Unless he signs a new deal he's pretty much Fukin you around losing you significant money. How long til you lot start to turn against him?

I didn't know if the BCFC fans' felt that selling Maynard could have helped them strengthen the defence, because as you say, you have other goal scorers such as Pitman.

For the some reason the majority of our fans treat him like hes satan or summit and actually jeered him off when he got subbed at the hull game. I think he has migged us off a little by simply not making his intentions clear, one phone call yes or no and we wouldn't be in tis situation now.

Serves you right for pissing us about and moving the goal posts. How your chairman can turn down upwards of £5 million for a player who had made no indication that he was going to sign a new deal and only had 1 year left on his contract is utter thickery. Thankfully he did though as Maynard was never worth that and your fans must be livid. All the best for the rest of the season, I think you're gonna need it.
