Could Steve Howard Turn Out to Be Svens Plan B

Recommended Posts

I Just wondered what you might Think of this as a consideration. So much was said earlier on previous forums about Sven having no plan B when we are are being shut out in a game. Well last Saturday made it certain for me. Bring on the Warhorse a perfect foil for Kaspers huge clearances and he nods on to the nearest attacker and we have a shot on target. Route 1 in this case must be the second option in my opinion. I know we play lovely passing football but sometimes you need to rough the buggers up a little. I also think that Howard is a great extra defende when needed . We may not have him for much longer so lets make the most of his qualities while we can. Shoot me down if you wish but I would like to hear your thoughts on this. This is my first post but feel free to be forthright in your views.

Before Saturday I did think he was finished, I think in certain games he can still make an impact off the bench. But the big problem is the ridiculous 5 subs rule. Can we really accommodate Howard, Beckford, Vassell, Schlupp and Nugent when all are fit?

Steve "Messi" Howard as he should now be known.

good comparison but I think Howard is better in the air than Messi :giggle:

Yes Howard gave us an extra push towards the end of the game on Saturday, but very rarely has he made a difference when we're chasing a game. We just launch it to him and he fouls defenders.

Like Howard but shouldn't be on the bench if everybody else is fit in my opinion.

I agree 5 subs is a problem but I would like the opportunity to ask Matt Mills and Sol Bamba how they would like to deal with the bugger if he was brought on against them in a game late on. I am sure they have have in training and have the bruises to prove it. Dont you think?

With all due respect, kasper launches the ball regularly with no end result but at least when Howard is there at least he is likely to get his bloody head on it .

Thanks Andy, If you Call in The Swan And Rushes Pre - Match and Shout Simmo. I will be only too pleased to buy you a pint.

Thanks Simmo, don't drink these days but very kind of you to offer. I usually arrive about 1/2 an hour before kick off as I have a 54 mile trip from home. I'll scream 'Simmo' at half time and see if you hear me :)

Why not Matt. After all they are mates and often travel to the games together. They drew up alongside us one night on the way home. Big steve glared at me and I thought I would hate to bump into him on a dark night. Nevermind in the daylight on a footie pitch.

Thanks Andy I am full of admiration for you. I only have to travel in from Loobaroo 11miles and that is a pain at times, So More power to you. When we were at Filbert st. I sat next to a guy who travelled in from Grantham every home match and he was a milkman, so he was up at 4am did his round and then made his way to the game. He was a pain in the arse at times but I always respected his desire and commitment to the cause.

Howard's flick-on to Dyer at the end of the Derby match was the best piece of football I will see this season. Fact.

I've said for the past few months that Howard should always be on the bench. Generally because he offers something different, he can give you something that none of the other strikers can give you; a threat in the air. Sometimes in games, we need somebody to come off of the bench to give the defenders a game and let them know we are here - that is what Stevie Howard will do. He's good in the air, he can hold the ball up, and he will try all game. So I think he should always be on the bench, and look how effective he was against Derby.

I'll just add, from the Derby game. I loved it when Howard beat a defender with skill, and then totally muscled the other defender off of the ball. I thought it was a mixture of Messi and Yaya Toure!

I like Steve Howard and I've always been an advocate of his as a super sub. With the current injury issues, he adds that special something up front.

His ball movement against Derby reminded me of a Brazilian player.

The problem is that we have many players that would be goot to have on the bench but we can only have 5 substitutes. The squad was designed for 7 substitutes and then they canged it just before the season started.

Howard deserves his place on the bench every time for me, he undoubtedly gives us an extra dimension.

People always talk about his physical attributes and strength in the air but I'm going to go all out and say he's not actually a terrible finisher either!
