Parking Fine

The original topic reminds me of the time I couldnt park to do my grocery shopping so I chanced it in a disabled zone, on a Saturday.

Unsurprisingly, I received a ticket and it was so unfair.

Massive (ethical) difference parking on double yellows overnight than in a disabled spit during a weekend.

Having issued a few hundred tickets myself, I can tell you now that you have no chance whatsoever, of having your ticket cancelled. Your excuse, is pretty poor. I am not saying I dont believe you, but just accept it, and learn your experiece.

Despite the parking ticket saying I was parked on street x when in fact it was street y?

If you appeal, you'll just end up with a doubled fine, save yourself the money and effort and pay it ASAP. I got caught parking on Grasmere Street 15 minutes too early once (before it went resident permit); very rare a council parking ticket gets overturned.

My grandma used to live on Grasmere St. You could never get a parking space there.

Yes, that most certainly is true. Many is the time I could have issued a ticket, but for that.

Then the road that the OP refers to definitely has broken double yellow lines.

What, on gutteridge st? Haven't noticed but haven't looked either. You know where the magistrates court is on vaughan st? I parked just after the crossroads if you turn left there. (in front of a bay sectioned off for a disabled space to be precise)

I actually won a parking fine appeal last month. The wind blew the ticket over when I closed the door and I never looked, so it was lying face down on my dashboard and I got a big fine. I just emailed a scan of the ticket I bought to the council along with a polite email and they actually let me off.

I don't think there's anything you can do about yours tho OP. :(

Erm not sure about there specifically I thought that you meant James Street (where Badagry Computing is, because I work there on a casual part time basis) and outside there are double yellows that are broken quite a bit of the way, as my boss has told me a number of customers have successfully appealed parking tickets when quickly parking to drop their machine off. You'd have thought the council would just repaint them! I'd assume that the rest of the roads around there are in the same state though lol

If it's a council fine I'd just pay it..

However.. If it's private, ignore any correspondence forever, that's what ive done, had 3 tickets about 2 years back from private firms, consumer action group (linked in post above) advise to ignore as they are basically unenforceable invoices, as valid as you parking outside my house and me charging you for the privilege..

They rely on people uneducated about their rights paying up in fear..

It's council. That's why I'm so annoyed. The double yellows are pointless there and there isn't enough space for all the cars. If you come back home after 5 you're screwed. Pay enough council tax as it is.

Know its not the traffic wardens fault, but I'm so frustrated for not having enough room to park on your own road. And before any cocky **** says I shouldn't have bought a house there, it was all we could afford.

They definitely have the wrong name. Our street changes names to highfield street about 200m the other side of my house which is on gutteridge st. I was parked on gutteridge st the other side of my house to highfield st, yet the parking fine states highfield st.

I knew it'd be Highfield St as soon as I saw you were from Coalville. lol

I live near there. Hobart Street.. My street has residential parking but I am allowed to have visitors park there for a price. Not sure what it costs, I don't drive, but I don't think its too much maybe £1. Unsure if that's per hour or not. The street used to be full of cars from people that never lived there to save paying the parking fees in the City centre official car parks. A few years ago when a neighbour on the ground floor had a car they had trouble parking in front of the house because of non-residents parking in front of our house. Much better now. There are a few places available but a resident card needs to be displayed. Traffic wardens patrol the area.

I can not believe someone as pleasant and non-confrontational as you would be a Traffic Warden... :)

As a Police Community Support Officer, I could issue the Police parking tickets, not the council parking tickets. Totally different, and they carry a larger fine.

So are you saying that parkies wouldn't issue a ticket on broken yellow lines or if they do you could get it overturned on appeal.

Also would you need to parked on the broken bit of the line and would you need photographic evidence.

On a lighter note I got a speeding ticket this morning! 5.30am, doing my good deed for the day too :(

Photographic evidence would help, but is not essential, as the Highways Dept. will have a record of the date it was relined, assuming it has been. Any broken yellow lines that are broken, or in some cases do not have the terminals on them, are always invalid, and cannot legally be enforced.

Posted

But if 99% of the street has clear double lines and a cars length in the middle has lines that are faded does that still count as invalid? I can see teams of people going out at night and scaraping some of the yellow off.

A badly marked area, affects the whole run of a double yellow line, so if it is patchy in places, it is worth appealing. In the Autumn, when the leaves fall, they may hide the double yellow. An appeal, and a photograph, will often lead in the ticket being withdrawn.

I'm not too sure if you would be considered too old to be a P.C.S.O., as this often depends on the area. However, the fitness test they have now, is very stringent, and not far removed from a Police officers. It's a great life though, and you never know what the new day may bring. Thanks from the local residents, for getting the druggies away from the area, or a piece of brick hurled at you from the scumbags! Overall though, very satisfying.

I wouldn't say I was mega fit but I'm OK for walking a few miles. Not sure about dodging bricks though. It's certainly something I am looking into. There was a private firm that has advertised a couple of times. Can't rmember if I replied now. I will if it appears again. About done my IT course and I'm getting desperate.

Good luck Nightguard, I'm keeping my fingers crosed that things will work out for you.
