The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Just got home from work to discover I've got a parking ticket. Last night I had to nip out, and when I returned there wasn't any parking spaces on my road. I stuck it on the yellow lines with the intention of moving it before heading off to work this morning (something which I've done a few times) Unfortunately this morning I completely forgot, partly because I was picked up early, partly as I'd forgot I'd left if on yellows. I only remembered when my mum rang me and said she thought I was 'risking it.' At that point I was at work in Stoke with the only set of keys in my pocket. Any chance of appealing do you think?
Fox92 Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Pay the fine, in my opinion. You took a risk and it didn't come off. You know what the deal is with double yellow lines, so I think you stand little chance.

You know what the deal is with double yellow lines, so I think you stand little chance. I wouldn't call it a risk. It wasn't my way of putting two fingers up to the law. Rightly or wrongly I left it overnight and had I remembered to move it it'd have been ok. Had I of been local is have come back and shifted it immediately. One thing I feel I could argue is that to avoid parking on yellow l'd have had to park on a different street, invalidating my car insurance?

People park on a different street to where they live all the time, don't think you've got an argument there. Sorry mate, you're just going to have to suck it up.
StanSP Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 You parked on a yellow line. You took the risk and just cos it's paid off before, you got caught out this time. You were right to have been given a ticket, in my opinion. No matter what the intentions are, whether you were moving it an hour later or a day later, you got caught parking on the yellow line at the wrong time. If you appeal, I can't see it being successful cos as said above, not much of an argument.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 October 2011 Author Posted 19 October 2011 I know it seems obvious when written in black and white. I wonder what would be the thoughts had my car broke down on double yellows. (ie car unable to be moved, as was mine ss I had the keys)
Rincewind Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 N they would have heard that one a few times. Don't tell them that you have left it in that place before but always moved it before the warden comes round. They will be coming around earlier. What proof would you have of it breaking down?' I was going to call the garage but I got it started when I got home from work.' I was think of applying for a job as a traffic warden. There are not all run by the council. One job advertised was from around 6pm to 1am around the City Center but I don't fancy the abuse I may receive.

Sorry. You have as much chance of winning an appeal as I have of persuading the missus to let me have a threesome with Rachel Riley and Kylie Minogue, and then those two agreeing to it as well.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Some nice person left me a positive message about my driving today. They had put a note on my windscreen saying, "Parking, fine!"
Fox92 Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I wonder what would be the thoughts had my car broke down on double yellows. (ie car unable to be moved, as was mine ss I had the keys) They would probably say, you should have broken down in a different place... Anyway, to take it further (ie, challenge them) don't you have to pay? Some nice person left me a positive message about my driving today. They had put a note on my windscreen saying, "Parking, fine!" Good one
Soar Fox Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I got left a note on my windscreen at fosse park today it was a girls number who was just getting in her car as I walked off.

flowwolf Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Yes by all means lodge an appeal. If you send them a nice letter and explain exactly as you have on here about this little misunderstanding i'm sure they will see sense and drop the fine. Or they they will pass your pathetic little plea around the office and piss themselves laughing. Tough call but i'm going for the second option. :crylaugh: :crylaugh:
The Year Of The Fox Posted 20 October 2011 Author Posted 20 October 2011 Forget all the above then, my ticket has the wrong road name on it!
kylestyle06 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Either way they have a picture of your car PARKED on DOUBLE YELLOWS. They a work all hours to catch people out, not just "9 till 5". Leaving it there to "move in the morning" is nonsense. The yellow lines are there for a reason. Lesson learnt, and pay up.

There's more chance of Leicester City winning next season's Premiership than you getting off this. There's no problem appealing, it's just that you'll lose.
Charl91 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Surely everyone parks on double yellows with the intention of moving it before they get a fine? Sorry, but your reason isn't really better then anyone else who has a parking fine in the history of parking fines. However - if they have the wrong road name, there is a very slim chance you'l get away with it. Something similar happened with my dad, when he hit a bollard or something at a train station, however they had the wrong date on the letter, so he got away with it.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 20 October 2011 Author Posted 20 October 2011 They definitely have the wrong name. Our street changes names to highfield street about 200m the other side of my house which is on gutteridge st. I was parked on gutteridge st the other side of my house to highfield st, yet the parking fine states highfield st.
