Not exactly hijacked. They were who they were. I don't think it matters if you believe in one god or anor another or none at all. If you grow up and are influenced in one way or another that is the person you will be unless you are able to think for yourself.

They imposed their beliefs on people by force, part of their belief was atheism. They oppressed religion and the religious. How can that not be in the name of atheism?

Henry eith was opposed to the Catholic Church but not the Church of England.. A few heads rolled and stuck on spikes over the centries.

Remember the Spanish Inquisition?

No I think they burned them.

According to QI a few weeks back they were expected. The victims were sent warning asking if they wanted to change their mind and say sorry to God before having a pole stuck up them lengthways and then burned at the stake.

Can all you believers please be united in prayer that we don't get Dowie as our next manager! :giggle:

here's an effort for someone to improve on :D

Our father who art at Wembley

Hallowed be thy turf

May Top's kingdom come

May O'Neils deal be done

On the pitch as well as in the dressing room

Give us that day our rightful win

And lead us not into league one

Forgive us our doubts

as we forgive those that doubt us

And let Wembley become our home

as we return in power and glory

Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, all atheists.

But started their own quasi-religion of self, in a monotheistic way.

Did they draw upon the way of reasoned debate, scientific reasoning... no!

Slap up a million pictures of themselves (something to fear/worship) and control the masses... sound familiar!?!?

The story is probably blown out of proportion but there would be some so embedded into their belief that they would go along with it and see nothing strange or wrong in doing this sort of thing.. In the past there may have been reasons other than religious for wanting to clamp down on dogs but to get people to comply it had to be written in a holy book.

It's the same with pigs. Some people won't eat pork because of the faith but pork doesn't keep well in hot climates so to stop people dying of food poisoning they were told it was against God's wishes for them to eat it. That worked better than some health and safety bloke telling them..

Another wierd story

Starting to put these on my blog as links.

I bet they thought they had.

It was just a response to the "atheists don't judge people" but any one who isn't an atheist is a moron and the "atheists wouldn't do anything evil" as long as you ignore those mass murderers.

Religion has done some good and some bad things as had atheism. You don't believe in god, neither do I. I just don't see the need to rubbish other people's beliefs. If you think being an atheist makes you a moraller and more intellectual person then good for you, just show a bit of class and keep it to yourself.

PS This isn't aimed specifically at you Phube.

i agree webbo , but very rarely do religious people keep their faith to themselves , and throughout history have forced it upon others .

maybe atheists are just getting their own back :)

The number of people who have mocked those who believe in God.

And yet we've got 53 pages of comments fervently believing MoN's on his way back.
