Bugg Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 When Jermaine Beckford has beaten Waghorns goalscoring record , I may then consider him to be a superior player ........ When David Nugent has beaten Waghorns goalscoring record , I may then consider him to be a superior player .................. Untill that happens the jury will always be out , as i can make a judgement for myself ......................................................... David Nugent beat Waghorn's goalscoring record in this league long ago.

ian the fox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Nugent is a far superior all-round player. Touch, technique, finishing. time will tell ,
Rhysm Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 A kind of interesting point has been raised here - if (big if) O'neill returns, the squad will need a large amount of investment. Looking at his style of play at Villa and Celtic he plays with pace especially out wide which we don't have except possibly Dyer and Schlupp at a push and a big man up front (which the only player we have is Steve Howard). Even the areas you would think are ok eg goalie and centre backs would be a break from what he usually goes with (compare Bamba's beckenbauer esque defending with that of say Taggart/ Collins/ Dunne.

I them all but Waghorn did do a massive job for us when we needed him to and people weren't saying how crap he was then....
m4DD0gg Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Martyn Waghorn is gash, he is not the sort of player we need if we want to be challenging for promotion. His awful awful free kicks and lack of goals scored says enough. Nugent and gangsta beckford are far better and the immergance of Schlupp will only seal Waghorns exit permanently come January.
Darkon84 Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 This. I them all but Waghorn did do a massive job for us when we needed him to and people weren't saying how crap he was then.... Was his goalscoring record really THAT good though? He definately did it for us when we needed him to aswell...penalty...cardiff....playoffs? I like the lad, it was hard not to, alot of hustle and bustle and seemed to enjoy himself here (loan spell at least) etc, similar to Hume, but lets face it, Nugent is a far superior player.
accessory Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Reading through some of the repulsive and vile comments on this thread, it is clear that some of the minds that have been poisoned during the past 13 months will take a long time to heal. Waghorn has experience of taking us into the top six of this league, something Nugent, Vassell and Beckford have never done. Even when he was in shocking form during the past two seasons, he didn't hide, rant at team-mates or throw a massive tantrum. I'd be delighted to welcome him back.
Schlupp Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 He is, an absolute steaming pile of crap. 12 goals in 28 starts crap?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 What is this emergeance of schlupp? I've seen nothing of him to warrant buying a poster of him and giving him a pearl necklace. I think he's around the same age now as when we first got waghorn. Waghorns scored more than schlupp at this stage, albeit in a much weaker team. I know that's a weak point above but my comment still stands. I didn't go to the rotherham game, but I'm yet to see what this schlupp fuss is all about. Is like waghorn to come back. If he's as crap as some make out then he wouldn't be playing for England u21s. Unless of course Pearce knows nothing about football. Yeh waggys free kicks are wank, but so are about 39 other players' currently on our books.
AdamN Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Waghorn has experience of taking us into the top six of this league, something Nugent, Vassell and Beckford have never done. So have Robbie Neilson, Ryan McGivern and Chris Weale. What's your point?

One person has said he is crap. As a footballer, not as a person. And all this stuff about taking us into the top six. Andy King scored a similar amount of goals that season, it doesn't stop people laying into him does it?

King got 10 (though he started 10 more games), including the one for Derby that cost us a game there.

beryllind Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 At least Waggy would chase to win the ball for 90 minutes, i've not seen Beckford break into a gallop yet.
iancognito Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 The argument is null and void as any new man coming in will more than likely take whatever Hull are prepared to pay for him in January to put towards the strengthening of the squad and bringing in their own men, especially if it's a foreign manager who hasn't got a clue about young English players. For the record, I think Waghorn is a decent player and I'd certainly take him in the squad over Vassell who fails to impress me every time he steps on the pitch

ian the fox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I do believe Dave Nugent to be a good player & great addition to our squad , I also think Jermaine Beckford could become a city favourite ,although he will have to work harder than he is at the moment I also think Martyn Waghorn is going to be a "player" one day & Id like it to be with us , Id concede Sven didnt rate him & his formed dipped after Pearson left ............. But its all square again now for all the players ...........................................
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I actually quite miss Fryatt. I know he had his fanboys and was gash for the best part of two years, but some of the goals he scored in our League One season were absolute class. Always thought his first touch was under rated.
Jacnah Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Wagyy can trap a ball further than I can kick it. He has the touch of an elephant. :crylaugh:brilliant!
