HankMarvin Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Neil LENNON is the shock name on Leicester City’s managerial shortlist. The Celtic boss joins some of the game’s top names who are being discussed in a group of elite targets to lead moneybags Foxes into the Premier League. Lennon has had a stormy baptism as Bhoys boss north of the border and could be tempted by the Championship outfit – where he was once one of their top players. Happy The fiery redhead was Martin O’Neill’s onfield general during the club’s glory days and his arrival would be a massive boost for the Foxes as they hunt for a successor to Sven Goran Eriksson. Lennon was pipped to the SPL title by Rangers last season amid a backdrop of threats against him. The chance to move to England with his family may be an appealing factor for him. Leicester’s new owners may not be fully aware of Lennon’s impact in the O’Neill era – but some of the longer-serving officials at the club think he would be a great chief. The Thai rulers of the club have been inundated with names of candidates for the post, with Huddersfield’s Lee Clark a leading contender – but not in partnership with his old gaffer Kevin Keegan, as has been suggested. Clark is near the top of the club’s hitlist and could be interested but is happy where he is. Avram Grant is another shock candidate and Mark Hughes a very serious option. Grant is backed by agent Pini Zahavi, who helped push through the Walkers Stadium takeover. He is available but his record at West Ham may work against him. Hughes is a free agent and could be attracted by the chance to get back into the game with probably the wealthiest club in the Championship. There has even been a crazy suggestion within Leicester to sound out former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti but he is waiting for a bigger offer – and is also still being paid by his former employers. Dave Jones and other Leicester old-boys Nigel Pearson at Hull and Billy Davies are still in contention. It is a massive call for Leicester and they are taking their time to make sure they get the right man. O’Neill – the clear favourite for the job – seems to be out of contention. Pals say he was concerned about several issues and decided to stay in exile. Meanwhile, insiders have revealed Eriksson was sacked for not spending ENOUGH money. The owners hired him to bring in star names and felt the Swede came up short despite all his contacts.
Daveaway Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Lennon, he is a manager in the SPL really, no thanks. Did City proud as a player.
Guest MattP Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Biggest budget in the SPL. Achievement....... 1 Rangers 13 35 2 Motherwell 13 26 3 Celtic 12 23 4 St Johnstone 13 19 No thanks.
Len Finsbury Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I don't think we can say that Lennon will always b a shit manager, he's still new to it so it's early days yet. However, we have an important agenda and haven't got time for him to learn his trade here. Never say never in the future though. He'll end up here one day, of that I'm certain.
dannythefox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Lennons a tricky one for me he would give the fans and the players a boost I think he's the sort of manager we need he's got fire in his belly. But I'm not sure if he would leave Celtic anyway. As for Sven not spending enough that's complete tosh.

Guest Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Lee clark will not be able to bring in big names.
Happy Fox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Lee clark will not be able to bring in big names. Hence they will probably go for Mark Hughes
purpleronnie Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Because the big names have done so well for us so far.
dannythefox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Read it carefully, it says despite having contacts he wasn't able to bring in star names. We don't need any big names I think he did very well with the players he brought in. I feel sorry for the bloke if he'd of played 4-4-2 I feel we would have had better results.

I know we don't but it is interesting that the Thais were not pleased that Sven failed to bring in a big named player seems to suggest they had the funds to do so, but it may be due to the player's reluctance to play at this level.
somebum Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Is this something you concocted or a copy and paste from somewhere else? Either way it's complete nonsense.

Agree if Sven couldn't do it know one else will be able to I don't no why the owners want a big name. If it so we get more people through the gates we should give O'Neill ANYTHING he wants that would bring another 3000 a week in!
Libertine Dream Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/news/2011/10/30/neil-lennon-shock-candidate-for-leicester-city-managerial-shortlist-102039-23524276/ Says it all really. They just looked at some of the names and gave obvious reason for why or why they wouldnt get the job.
muzzy1981 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 No to Lennon. Thais may have been disappointed in no blue chip signings, but more importantly they have said the new manager needs experience in this league. They're prob just trying to blame Sven a bit more because the fans on the whole think it was a bit harsh. Lennon has no experience in this league. Personally someone I feel would do a great job for us is Paul jewell, has an outstanding record, yes things went wrong at derby but was due to his personal life. Not setting the world on fire with Ipswich but that's because of the mess means left them in and having there best players, wickham, fulop and mcauley raided. One of the first players he picked up for free was chopra a proven champ goalscorer
stockyfox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I wouldn't say that Neil Lennon is a 'shock' candidate. On the 25th October, I did ask the question as to why his name wasn't included in the pol 'The next Leicester City manager' #197 which was largely ignored. People rave about Martin O'Neill but seem to forget that the inspiration on the field which underpinned O'Neil's success was down to the brilliance and leadership of Neil Lennon. Whether or not he gets the job is for others to decide but Neil Lennon was a tremendously loyal servant to Leicester and deserves to be spoken of with due respect for what he did for the Club.
Len Finsbury Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I'm bored of this "..... has no experience in this league" nonsense. How does anyone ever get the chance to gain experience? Whichever league it is, in whatever country it is, the rules of the game are the same. We still play with the same amount of players, formations that are successful in other leagues can also work here and we still get three points if we score more goals that the opposition. Does everyone want some manager who can only ever manage at this level and chokes whenever they get promoted. What experience did MON have in this league when he took over here? Half a season with Norwich? What about when we got promoted? He'd never managed in the Prem but seemed to cope quite well. Even when he went to Scotland, it was all new to him. MON may have been something different but we didn't know what was going to happen in the future during that game against Sheff Utd for example. We might be overlooking up an d coming young managers who may turn out to be fantastic whilst we look at people who have made no impact in any other division that this.

Why Lennon is considered any more of a shock candidate than any of the other shock candidates that we are reputedly linked with is beyond me.. Keegan?.... Surprised by this rumour... Lennon.. Not at all surprised by this

I don't know why the owners don't manage the club themselves. At least they'll get some fast-track education about why the world's stars don't want to come to Championship makeweights Leicester and why the "names" that might are a doubtful option. Seems to me the owners understand nothing about building a football team. Their only God is money. Rent a crowd reigns supreme yet for all their clout I'm starting to wish they'd just sod-off back to Thailand and help the poor if they've got cash to burn. Or they can give me the job. I'll build 'em a team in less than 12 months that'll let em bask in the limelight of the Premiership and negotiate a contract whereby they can pay me what I get on my market stall and the rest can be diverted to suitable charities. If we lose it can all go to charity! We'll play without fear and have a whole lot of fun. The fans would be involved like never before and, after 12 months to the day, I'fl happily hand the show back to someone properly "qualified" to manage in the Premiership and "retire to my seat in the kop.. Stowell and Beaglehole could help with pleasure cos both are people with a feel for this wonderful club of ours. Building winning teams is simple. It's about getting people together who have ability and big hearts and then convincing them they can fly higher than they ever imagined. It's about building a clan, or a kind of SAS unit, where the blokes live and die for one another and no-one is ever left to stand alone...not anywhere or for any reason. It's about forming a relationship you remember for a lifetime...a relationship so special you just love to be a part of it. No, of course it wouldn't happen. But that is what's required. You can keep your sodding Beckford's.

You can keep your sodding Beckford's. You make some sooper posts mate, some of the best on here IMO You also post some turd too... I said near the start of the season that you come across as a frustrated manager and nothing you've posted since makes me think otherwise The problem I have with you at present Thrac is that you seem to be so down on the club and anything that it might be trying to do to improve... Because you 'know better' all the time. I was with you on Sven as you know, but I won't be with you if you continue to knock anyone else or anything else that we may try to do. I want Hughes as the next boss and with him I reckon we'll have a tough boss to sort this mess out. He'll get my full backing as would anyone else we may get.. I'd like to see more of the informative, intelligent, POSITIVE Thrac that we used to see, rather than someone who genuinely believes he could be the next manager.. Cos that's how you're coming across just now
