Narborough_fox Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 If Ireland are drawn in a group with with Greece, Portugal and Italy, will it be the group of debt?

Super_horns Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Somebody else to cheer on IF England flop again...
Jimothy Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Somebody else to cheer on IF England flop again... You mean when England flop again. But then the Irish won't get any further so we'll still need someone to cheer on.
FoxyPV Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Somebody else to cheer on IF England flop again... Behave yourself. We'll be lucky to not finish bottom of the group if we qualify.
purpleronnie Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 No real surprise, glad ROI will be there.
BlueSi13 Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Behave yourself. We'll be lucky to not finish bottom of the group if we qualify. Sadly i also believe we'll be lucky to qualify from out group next summer. We haven't played well since Switzerland away which was an age ago. As for the game today, for me it's not a case of "can we beat Spain?", it's "can we have the ball for more than 5-10 minutes?"
Webbo Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 So nice to to come on here after an England game and not have to read all the miserable cvnts saying how shit we are. Well it was a pleasant surprise, and should do the confidence of the squad a world of good But it would have been nice for us to have had the ball for a little bit
Guest Bilo Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Oh, England. Why do you do it to us? Why do you make us think you're good by doing that every once in a while? Now we've all got false hope you buggers. <_< I think the lesson from tonight is quite simple. Fabio needs to bring in the young guns and give them as many run-outs as possible. Jones and Jagielka were great in defence, Parker was utterly superb (not actually a youngster but well worth a start in the week again) and I felt Rodwell and Welbeck did well from the bench too. Encouraging display and result definitely, I just hope that Capello learns the lessons from it.
Corky Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 That was good to watch as an England fan. Okay, we didn't have much of the ball, but the important thing was to stay disciplined and not get caught out of position, which rarely happened. Hart had one serious save to make and they hit the post, apart from that little in the way of scares. Plenty of commitment shown by the team and determination to hold on.
purpleronnie Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 The cynic in me still thinks if it would have been a competitive match the outcome would be very different. On the upside it may well reduce the odds on england winning the euro's, making a lay bet even more tempting.
Webbo Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Lescott was immense! Great defending all game! He looked world class tonight. Who'd have thought we'd ever be able to say that?
Vacamion Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 I agree. I thought Mr Lescott was as worthy of MOM as Parker. (Parker also being immense). The 2nd half was actually engaging to watch and, without getting ahead of ourselves, a solid performance.
Father Ted Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Everybody did their job and ran their bollocks off. If England play like that at the Euros theres no reason why they cant go all the way. Also nice to see an England team without Ferdinand, Terry and Gerrard - 3 players who imo should not go to the Euros.

Only one of the "old guard" that can offer us something the youngsters coming through can't.
Bert Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 <_< it's only been a couple of hours and already I'm bored of that joke. As well as that group not being possible to happen.

We have an abudance of capable CBs at the moment which is encouraging. I think Gerrard would be a good influence in the camp for the younger lads though, if there was room for him that is. Lamps over Gerrard thoigh if i HAD to pick only one
Father Ted Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Gerrard should for me. Only one of the "old guard" that can offer us something the youngsters coming through can't. I do agree but a lot can happen between now and the Euros, all depends on whether he can get fit and get a good run of football before the Euros, if he doesn't play much, personally I wouldn't take him.

Agree with what you've said in the most part, but you must have been watching the wrong match if you thought Jones played well in defence, he spent 90% of his time on the pitch as the most advanced midfielder. And although he covered a lot of ground, at times I think he was shown up as centre back playing in midfield. Some heavy touches and bad choices when in good possession. That's not to say he was totally woeful, I would have just preferred to see someone who's plies their trade in midfield week in week out, like Rodwell, start instead. Lescott on the other hand had a fantastic game along side Jagielka in defence. Also while great to see some youngsters given a run out, somewhat baffling to see the omission of some. Johnson ahead of Walker at right back for starters. Johnson hasn't played that well for a while and hasn't return from injury for that long, whilst Walker has been consistently putting in good displays for Spurs all season on top of a few strong showings for Villa at the end of last season.

If he doesn't play much he shouldn't go. He'll be focusing on getting fit and trying to push on because this will more than likely be his last big tournament.
Super_horns Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 It was good to see England deploying some tactics that actually worked...can we do it in the real thing though?
vandamman Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 We shouldn't take Terry or Ferdinand to the Euro's, they are simply too slow. Whereas Lescott and Jakielka without playing that many games for England seemed to have matured into the position and look capable enough at this level. Jones should get a look in aswell, however, no idea why he was given the role he was given yesterday, he looked lost, Barry has been performing well this season and would like to see the partnership of Parker/Barry. The future of England is looking bright esecially when we have Smalling and Wilshere to come back. As mentioned by somebody else, I still think Gerrard and Lampard have something to offer, one off, one on sorta thing. Although, as a word of warning we are raving about the youngsters coming through, but they too underperformed at the last U21 euro's against pretty poor teams it has to be said. Don't write off the old guard too soon!
