lcfcadam Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 I'm sure this topic probably already exists somewhere but after a good search I couldn't find it. Just thought the awesome subject of album artwork should be discussed - given that it's one of the forms of art that people see most often, I don't think really great examples get enough recognition. So what's your very favourite album cover? Mine would have to be The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night by The Besnard Lakes (apologies for the large image, but there's no point posting a little thumbnail on a thread like this): It's a good sign when the cover art alone sends shivers up your spine, and it couldn't set the scene better for the truly stupendous music on the album itself. Made by a Canadian artist called Corri-Lynn Tetz...
Fox92 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 My favourite album cover. One of my favourite albums. My favourite band.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 My favourite album cover. One of my favourite albums. My favourite band. You don't say! Anyway, off to have a think about this.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Not an album as such, but I love it cos I had it for months before I realised what the picture was. In fairness, it's harder to tell from close up.

One of the most astonishing things I've ever been to, 2008 at the Manchester Apollo...

lcfcadam Posted 18 November 2011 Author Posted 18 November 2011 That's cheating! You have to pick your favourite... Personally out of those it'd have to be the Dead Kennedys one for me; simply awe-inspiring, and means so much.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Why are so many people putting up album covers that are basically just photos of the band?

Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Okay, so I've had a proper think and it has to be... With honorable mentions for... for it's simplicity and yet visual impact. for it's stark, unforgiving imagery. Because it gives you a good idea of what to expect from the album.
Jordan Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (1999) There are a lot of things I like about this cover. The sketch--some sort of alien/fetus hybrid--fits well because for myself (and a lot of others), the sound on this album was an entirely new species to us. Even the packaging of the album was shaped a little differently that what I was used to. Also, a few years ago, Sigur Rós came up during a discussion I was having with my brother, and he described their sound as "alien music," without having any idea that their breakthrough album featured that cover. So, I suppose it fits well. for it's stark, unforgiving imagery. Probably why Malcolm W. Browne won the World Press Photo Awards Photo of the Year in 1963 for shooting that scene. Just a guess, though.
Finnegan Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 As if this has gone two pages without Vertigo of Bliss. I don't even care that much about Cliffy Biro.
The Doctor Posted 20 November 2011 Posted 20 November 2011 It's got UFO's and cool monsters destroying shit.
