Guest MattP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 This time last year I was on the way out to Australia for the ashes series and it got me wondering what's the finest sporting arena you have been to? It's a toss up for me between the MGM Grand Garden Arena for atmosphere when Hatton fought Mayweather but I think the SCG is probably the greatest sports venue I have been present at, magnificent setting.
Corky Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Wembley. Trent Bridge for a day at the Ashes 2005 comes close.
StanSP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Non-football: Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. India vs England, 3rd test December 2001. Dad got tickets for something ridiculous like 450 rupees (about £10 I think at the time). Football: Wembley. Emirates. I love the structure and magnitude of new stadiums like these two. Always fascinates me.
isaidno Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Melbourne Cricket Ground , pretty amazing Citi Field , home of the Metz . went to watch a metz vs yankees game there this summer. the atmosphere was incredible
Guest MattP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I went to MCG as well but I picked the SCG over it, the MCG is great and with 110,000 in its noisy but I never really saw it as a cricket ground, AFL must be awesome though. Baseball reminded me of another one. San Francisco Giants Ballpark, AT&T Park.
somebum Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I bet it was great to go to Aus for the Ashes Matt, what I would have given for that! Those were some of the greatest sporting months of my life and the only downside was that I was at home rather than down under. Of all Aus cricket grounds, I loved the look of Adelaide - what an amazing setting. Proper old fashioned ground, I am a sucker for that. For me, it has to be the San Siro. It may be getting on in years but the atmosphere is amazing and I think its the sheer theatre of the place for me. brilliant.
I am Rod Hull Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 The old Wembley Lords (you can smell the history) Filbert Street Kempton for the King George Wants The Nou Camp Any Ashes venue in Aus or test in India (the atmosphere must be amazing) The Monaco GP

Reminds me of another one, Prestbury Park when the Cheltenham Festival is on in March.
z-layrex Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Filbert Street probably. I only went twice as a child but I thought it was amazing each time.
Simmo86 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Being at Trent Bridge on the day we won the 4th Test in 2005 was pretty special. Watched some UFC at the MGM Grand in Vegas that was decent. Football wise for atmosphere the Rome derby.

Reminds me of another one, Prestbury Park when the Cheltenham Festival is on in March. My father in laws cousin used to manage the stables at Kempton, we stayed over night on coarse. We also walked around the coarse during a couple of the races, stood at a fence and watched them jump over it. I was amazed at how big the fences were and how high/long the horses jumped. It was also the year (mid 90`s ?) of the IRA bomb scare which was strange..
The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Hope people mean the old Wembley! Millenium Stadium is quite impressive
Guest Bilo Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Camp Nou is spectacular but the concourse area is an absolute tip. It's a surprisingly tired looking stadium when you move away from what you see on telly.
Narborough_fox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Old Yankee Stadium New Yankee Stadium Emirates Silverstone
Langston Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Either Cowboys Stadium or the Allianz Arena, both incredible.
acooling08 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 It's only out of Filbert Street (which I can barely remember due to being so young), Walkers, Ricoh Arena, Glanford Park, The City Ground.
SeCrEt FoX Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Old and new Wembley for me. Filbo and walkers/KP and Old Trafford, Welford Road couple of times, New Tigers stand is quite impressive sitting right at the top.
