Leicester prepared to offer Billy Sharp £28k a week rising to £40k if they go up. Great value! #lcfc

As they haven't even had talks yet I don't know how anyone can come up with this figure. If it was true I'm afraid for me, it doesn't offer very good value for money. Yes I'd welcome him here as a reasonable prospect, particularly on recent form but lets not get carried away, he's hardly the Messiah and there does seem to be an air of desperation in all of this. His stats for Sheff Utd between 2007-11 read 8 goals in 51 games and we still need a midfield capable of passing the ball to him! With the right midfield I still believe Nugent, Beckford, Waghorn and Schlupp (when back) are all capable of goals. Yes he did have a purple patch in Div 1 in the past but so did Fryatt. As I say, it would be nice to see him here but not for silly money (none of our current players are). All these fees and wages could land us up in the brown stuff for a second time. WBA, Norwich and Swansea all manage to do well without this level of financial commitment it would seem.

its probally taken from the paper article posted earlier

Money-bags Leicester City are ready to make Billy Sharp one of the Championship’s highest paid players with a deal that could earn him more than £5million over three-and-a-half years.

The Foxes are set to snap up Doncaster hitman Sharp this month, hoping that he’ll shoot them into the Premier League as quickly as possible. If he succeeds he will hit the jackpot.

Sharp, 25, has hit 10 goals for lowly Rovers this term, and averaged more than a goal every other game.

If Rovers, as expected, accept City’s £3million offer, then Sharp will win a contract until June 2015, worth nearly £28,000 a week, and rising to nearer £40,000 a week in the Premier League. He will also be guaranteed a £200,000 signing-on fee.

Sharp will be offered a Premiership retention bonus of £250,000, payable at the end of each season that top flight status is assured.

package seems good to me.. incentive bonuses if we stay in the prem so will be happy to do that, singing on bonus is standard, pay rise if get to the prem, cant argue about that..

Didn't Southampton offer £28000 with £40000 per week rising to the premiership so surely we are going to have to at least match it? is that maybe where the figure has come does he prefer Leicester's location to Soton it was rumoured he didn't want to move to the south

The club and Sharp ARE in dialogue.

Sorry, from what I'd read I thought we were just at the initial fee agreement stage, though in reality I suppose there would have been some probing between agent and club etc. Even so, you'd think they'd keep things relatively close to there chests at this stage. January is notoriously a bad time to buy due to, as Fergie puts it, mediocre players going for inflated money, or words to that effect. Sharp is a good prospect but not worth silly money and silly wages, we had a bloke called Sven who's already tried that one.

I'm not sure they really need him at that price anyway at the moment, I think they've got better barring injuries.

Ahh yes. I didn't realise that because I make every effort to stay away from 'Transfer Talk' usually lol.

Can't blame you.

From Sky website late last night:

Sky Sports understands that Doncaster will attempt to keep Billy Sharp at the Keepmoat Stadium by offering him a new deal.

Rovers confirmed over the weekend they had reluctantly accepted a bid from Championship rivals Leicester for the striker.

Whilst granting the Foxes permission to speak to Sharp, Doncaster manager Dean Saunders remained hopeful that he would decide not to leave.

And it is now understood that Doncaster major shareholder Dick Watson has put up the money to offer Sharp a new deal in an effort to hold on to the 25-year-old.

Sharp has been a key player for Doncaster since arriving from Sheffield United in 2009, having previously plied his trade with Scunthorpe.
