LCFC_15 Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 First of all, Leicester have not won back-to-back games this season which shows no signs of consistency from a team that were championship contenders at the start of the season. In this league, you need to go on a good run for a chance to be in the play-offs or higher. However, in the summer the owners were splashing big money in the transfer window showing their intent of premier league football. On the other hand I do not blame the owners but in this league money doesn't guarantee success. I think Sven-Goran Eriksson is to blame for Leicester's current position. The players that he brought to the club made their move only because they knew the club had money and were only interesting in coming to the club to increase their wages rather than playing for the club. Apart from Kasper Schmeichel, Lee Peltier and David Nugent who were bargains have been amazing this year. Sven-Goran Eriksson was always looking to get players from the premier league and as you all know even players in the premier league sometimes find it difficult to perform in the championship because it is a hard league. Spending 10m+ in the Championship is SHOCKING and will hurt even more if Leicester don't get promoted. The Championship is all about finding bargain players that are going to play for the team and loaning few players from the premier league that will gradually build the team from strengh to strength. I am a big fan of Nigel Pearson after he got Leicester promoted from League One to the Championship first time asking as many teams would struggle to return back straightaway and then guided Leicester into the Championship play-offs. He has also got the greatest win ratio of any permanent Leicester manager. I have faith in him to turn things around at the club using the money sensibly on players he thinks Leicester need to push themselves forward. With 20 games left in the league and being 5 points away from the play-off I have a feeling by going on a good run come end of the season Leicester City will be in the play-offs. The championship is a funny league with teams losing from time-to-time and anything is possible. I understand when fans do get angry because they pay money to watch the team play well and win. On the other hand the fans have to also realise that booing the team will not help as things will get even worse. I just hope that from now till the end of the season that the fans back the manager and the team and hopefully performances and wins will improve to get us into the play-offs.
iamafox Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 After the money that we've spent and the players that we've signed, as well as high expectation levels, our season so far has been appalling.
ealingfox Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 You're underestimating the effect of a managerial change. If the situation was the same but Sven was still here then fair enough. Be thankful that we still have 16 days to make significant changes.

Be thankful that we still have 16 days to make significant changes. It's Sven's team that has put Nigel Pearson and Leicester in this position. Look what Nigel Pearson did at Hull City, he bought players for bargains e.g. Koren, Stewart etc and that is why they are in the play-offs.
L4EV Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 A little surprised it's got this bad for you guys. You've got a pretty decent squad on paper, guess that's the problem though, paper teams win paper cups. Haven't come to laugh at you, I wanted you to be in and around there, and my team aren't exactly having an easy ride either.
Legend_in_blue Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 We're 7 points away from the playoffs, not 5. May as well be 70 though, we ain't going nowhere!

LCFC_15 Posted 16 January 2012 Author Posted 16 January 2012 Championship is a funny league. Anything is possible if Leicester go on a good run. By looking at Leicester next few fixtures; Southampton (A), Middlesbrough (H), Brighton (A), Cardiff (H) - 3/4 games they play against a team that is currently in the top 4. These are crucial matches for Leicester if they want to be finishing in the play-offs come end of the season. If Leicester pick up between 7-12 points from the following fixtures they have a chance to finish in the play-offs. On the other hand anything less than 7 points the play-off dreams will disappear for another season.

cc_star Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 What went wrong was a transfer policy geared around 4-3-3, there wasn't planning for anything else, whatsoever. We signed Johnson, Danns & Fernandes as a midfield trio to provide competition to/replace Wellens, King & Abe (2 players for every position & all that) 433 was a total disaster, it flopped spectacularly, this meant the whole pre-season of coaching, team preparation & signings was practically wasted. We stemmed the tide for a couple of weeks by sellotaping together a diamond formation, until the wheels fell of that too & the players form, confidence & even desire was decimated and managerial change was inevitable Picking up the pieces without the benefit of a pre-season is tough when things are so poor People may point to new manager 'lift' of MoN at Sunderland as to what can happen, but 2 things 1) MoN is a world renowned manager that will always be in the upper reaches of a top flight 2) Sunderland were just playing poorly, they had the players to change things and play other ways. We have no choice but to play a system we know has flopped, with players who are playing awfully. That's not to say NP shouldn't be getting more out of the players available, even if we're not winning games we should be getting the basics right, marking up at the back for a start along with a host of other things such as shielding the players better so they don't feel all the pressure the look like they're feeling... Our 'passes' if you can call them that are all rushed & snatched, invariably this doesn't end up with a blue shirt but the 'fans' have a key part to play in that too January is a time to tinker, not rebuild, but we have the money & the management team to get things right... Whether the owners or even the fans allow the time for that to happen is a different matter altogether.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 laughing stock of the league- as i predicted in the summer

On the other hand anything less than 7 points the play-off dreams will disappear for another season. This season rests on a knife edge at present and it could go either way. Perversely we could do well in the above mentioned "tough" four games against decent opposition (though like everybody in this league, they're all beatable). Contrast that with how we've done in all the so called "easy" games since we lost away to Hull.....they brought us just 7 points from an available 21....when the bare miniumum should surely have been 15 if you'd looked at the Peterborough anon fixtures beforehand! The old adage is that we seem to struggle against mediocre-lower down the table opposition and Barnsley was a classic case in point on Saturday. Although we're only one point worse off than when we embarked on that seven-straight-league-wins run just over a year ago (and ran Man. City close twice in the FA Cup), a year on everything feels negative that felt so positively vibrant this time last year as the team look so incoherent right now, it's frightening - shades of when Sousa was here even! Although the great run under Sven proved to be a false dawn in the end I just cannot see us winning three games in a row this season on present form - let alone seven!! It doesn't really need any reminders here that it's now mid January and we've still yet to win two in a row!! The constant booiing of the team and moaning amongst the supporters at home doesn't help one iota but I guess that is borne of frustration, with the money we've spent and with it the sharp rise in expectation levels amongst the board and fans alike. I personally feel that the upheaval in personnel hasn't helped either - even if the Messiah of yesteryear and his backroom staff have returned........
Kitchandro Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 I don't even want to think about it tbh. I can think of very few good memories but a lot of ones involving me walking away from the ground in silence staring at the floor or with my head in my hands.
Finnegan Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 People seriously need to stop making themselves look like clueless tits criticising the purchasing policy under Sven. Literally all of our best performing players at the moment are players Sven brought in. Moreover, players that Pearson wouldn't have been able to attract. I'm not saying Sven was a better manager over all or that we were wrong to sack him but his buying power was a strength of his and we've benefited.
