MY brother is 62 and retired a couple of years ago. Well actually he sold his hotel business and banked the cash. He started playing poker online for a living but has never claimed anything and told me he has no need to. His children were still at school at the time. He does a little finance advice now and again. Not sure how he works this cash wise but he isn't claiming as I said so its up to him.

Wonderful.

Stating statistics for an average spend for one person in a small house doesn't make you a bigot. You being close minded and refusing to accept that someone else might spend a different amount to you, despite evidence and testament to the contrary, makes you a bigot.

Go back - read slowly and allow your lips to move if you want - see how I didn't deny you might pay that figure.

I don't need to do research to quote my own spend. I know that because I see the bills each month. Stating this does not constitute "spouting shite".

No it doesn't - but you are being a titbrain because you are using it to justify the "average household utility cost" - which it is not.

Seems like a fair amount of research and anecdotal evidence has been supplied in this thread to show one person in a small house can easily spend that amount, or less, anyway.

But it still does not equate to the "average household utility cost"...and this is why I feel you are managing to make yourself look a bit of a dick, especially as you posted this obviously not having bothered to discover what the actual figures are (otherwise you might have been a little bit less bombastic).

I swear that when you joined this forum you used to be substancially cleverer - but maybe that was Danny, danny, Danny1 or some other convaluted method of nomenclature.

Obviously you missed the various documentries about benefits (i guess your going to research the internet now and prove me wrong) and i for a fact know a few people out of work claiming, and have the latest touch pad phones.

As for me quoting a "brand new tv", i think you knew what i meant, and i think your just being padantic.

I'm being what now?

Anecdotal evidence doesn't constitute fact - you may "feel" that this is the case nationally but it doesn't make it so...and to state that people on benefits all have the latest gadgets and brand new televisions is (quite frankly) laughable.

As for the rest of your post: I don't have the slightest idea what your brother or your three mortgages have to do with any of the subjects under discussion.

Entitled my arse. He's won £10 million in a lottery so should not get benefits. In fact, he should be paying a shit load of tax on his winnings, the dispicable willy puller.

Great. Tax 1 x £10m. Then the rest of the country can claim the tax back on all those dozens of millions of tickets that didn't win anything.

My electic/gas is £57 per month DD. Don't know how the gas is so much I only have CH. My gas fire has been disconnected for a while. My boiler needs looking at too it keeps making funny gurgling noises and shutting off. Only electric I have is TV PC and lights. CH is on now sometimes it comes on right away sometimes it doesnt come on at all (radiators I mean)

Should really cut down but its cold. Turned rads off in kitchen and bathroom. Just living/bedroom.

We were talking about a case of one person living alone, who apparently had to choose between gas and food, not the average household spend. At least I certainly was and I believe the guy that posted the figures also was.

If I have missed some fine detail I apologise, I have not read every word of this 14 page thread in fine detail as I really don't have the time or incline.

As I understood it, you then said "It doesn't remotely reflect my spend, it's made-up bollocks.", reasoning that because the quoted spend did not match yours - it's "bollocks", and that one person living alone in a small house could not get by spending that, or less.

I swear that when you joined this forum you used to be substancially cleverer - but maybe that was Danny, danny, Danny1 or some other convaluted method of nomenclature.

Ad hominem attacks make no difference to the fact that, for one person living alone, those figures are by no means "bollocks".

One person on their own would not get £26k benefits Probably not even half. £270X12 plus housing and CT allowance.

The Jobcente are trying to get me on a 'Right to choose' program which helps people who may be suffering long term difficulties and barriers such as disability and health get back to work. It is not my health that I am concerned with but the lack of jobs around for someone in my age group. Had a reply from an application saying that dure to the massive load of applications received they will not bother with mine. One of the few places that has even acknowledged my application.

If the Govt had not moved the goalposts regarding my pension credits meaning I know have over a year to wait before I qualify I could come off JSA and still look for work. Maybe the Job centre should concentrate on getting the 18-25 year olds and those with families into long term work more than those nearing retirement. who may be single and claiming less.

My bad, spelling error, pedantic, look it up.

And Laughable is it, all the people i know on high benefits have the latest mobile phones FACT, show me evidenece where this is not the case, if thats what your asking for.

Whats laughable is this

It isn't the average spend on utilities, it's made-up bollocks.

It doesn't remotely reflect my spend, it's made-up bollocks.

It may be similar to your bills - but it's still made-up bollocks.

The figures quoted are probably about right, we spend over a £1000 on gas electric, and our water bill is around the £300 mark, we are the average sized family in a 3 bed semi

As for reference to my brother, since when are you the forum police to tell me what i can or cant write.

Get a life you nip picker, you dont half talk some drivel

I was being pedantic about your inability to write the word pedantic, I was laughing at your ignorance - it was "humour". Look it up.

I don't need to present you evidence - you are citing anecdotal experience as fact, it isn't. You are the one who needs to provide evidence to corroberate your ridiculous position, I don't have to do anything to disprove it other that highlight the total lack of evidence you've provided.

Lastly, if you look again very carefully, you'll notice I haven't told you what you can write, I've simply pointed out that what you wrote was unsupportable bollocks.

From the person who called me a bigot that is hysterical. If you want to be little Miss Prissyknickers about things then I suggest you refrain from lobbing insults at others first.

Daggers you nip pick through peoples posts with your opinions without providing anything to back it up, i guess purely based on your opinion

you either read too much, or spend too much time on here, i am guessing its both

Do you know if you have a condensing boiler? If you can't tell, have a look for a white plastic pipe (22mm diameter) coming out of your boiler connections. If you have, and the pipe goes outside in any form (it may be 34mm or even 42mm waste pipe outside) it could be frozen. Boil the kettle n pour it over it a few times. If not, it could be that your radiators need venting, if not its probably a new pump

It's 'nit pick', "nip pick" makes no sense at all.

Duh.

Go back and read the previous posts, your ignorance is getting very boring now, this has already been addressed.

Exactly,I Just knew you'd pick up on that, just goes to show your a bit of a saddo

I bet you're one of those people who go down the pub and argue all the time about nonsense topics, and have got into endless arguements and involved in petty debates that have nothing to do you, and i bet your mates, if you have any, probably think your a bit of a dick if the truths known, especially if you carry on like this down the boozer with all the same boring drivel you keep coming out with on the forums.

I think the term that i'm looking for is "knowitall"

There is a pipe that goes outside. I know that it leaks sometimes. Someone is supposed to be coming but I've not been in or been able to arrange a time. The boiler is hidden. Couple of sort of knobs unerneath. One increases the pressure and a valve decreases (or visa versa) Last day or so the display 1 and 8.

Its also affecting my shower which has low pressure. Can shower about 30 seconds at a time. I'll see if I can get at the pipe outside. For a long time I was unable to open my windows but at least they are fixed. It is an old boiler. The housing association seem to prefer to pay out for bodging repairs rather than have a new one fitted. Must have been in over 5 years and never been 100% right. Never even left the manual when fitted so I can see what the fault numbers mean and sort it out myself. Have to call in the engineer.

Who is your supplier? Is you direct debit fair? I switched from British Gas to Swalec the other year and the difference was substantial.

I feel I understand the financial process a lot clearer now.

the guy is clearly a bellend, but he does have a couple of good points, 1 that this has been done now to hide the actual ramifications of it while everyone is reading the back-pages.

That and the fact that the bank of england has effectively given 50bn to the banks, increasing the amount of money in the economy thereby devaluing the actual money the individuals have.

And what are the banks going to do with this extra money, loan it out, brilliant, quantative easing will just make the banks richer in the long run.

It is also going to **** up your pensions:

http://www.which.co.uk/news/2012/02/pension-schemes-set-to-lose-out-under-50bn-quantitative-easing-278940/

The Mail is as restrained as usual:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2098830/Quantitative-easing-A-dangerous-experiment-consequences-live-years-come.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Although some people are saying it is having a positive impact because it wasn't as big a measure of QE as forecasted.

The minutes of that committee are always published on a certain day of the month. It was just coincidence.
