Can't Survive on £26k a Year Benefit

Various groups are claiming that the government's proposals to cap benefit at £26k a year (the equivilant earnings of someone on a £35k a year job after tax) will leave some families homeless and/or in poverty.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-16675314

"The fact that child benefit, which is meant to be attached to the number of children, is being discounted in relation to this particular £26,000 is actually going to damage those children's welfare and put potentially another 100,000 children into poverty."

Seriously? I had no idea I've been living my entire life in poverty!

Some people are so out of touch with the reality of what you actually need to live decently, it is amazing.

It's worth noting that people with severe disabilities whose care might be very expensive are exempt from the cap though.

Just being on that kind of money cos you can't stop shagging (or at least, can't do it responsibly) is wrong. How about instead of the cap, any bloke who fathers more children than he can afford, is neutered? That would work.

26,000 does sound like a lot, but when you consider it is for a family then it is the equivalent of 2 adults earning 13,000 each, which is pretty much minimum wage, I tried to read the BBC article but to be honest I got lost and confused over who was entitled to what, but if you are living in London or other expensive cities then 13,000 is not that much.

I spent a few years in Spain teaching English and earning fvck all but having a good time, I was able to survive on 9 months work at less than a grand a month, but then I lived like a bum and loved it, you can't do that if you have kids.

ONE of the things they do in the states, instead of just giving people cash every week they give them 'food stamps' which is basically like a swipe card that is 'filled' every month. This can not be spent on cigarettes and alcohol as well as 'fancy' food stuff like birthday cakes and hot roasted chickens ( they class them as fancy and say its cheaper to buy one and cook it yourself). You'd be amazed at how much further it makes the money go...

and on a side note 26.000 for a single person? a married person with one kid? 5 kids?

and where is this for? Leeds? leicester London?

I would imagine its more expensive to live in London, of course and would be unfair if they had the same cap as someone in leicester.

Simple answer, stop fvcking breeding you disgusting vile creatures. It seriously angers me how people think it's okay to keep letting their dumb fvcking rat spawn tumble out of their repulsive cvnts every 9months. Everyone should be financially tested for allowing a pregnancy to continue. If you or your partner can't afford it then baby gets aborted. Simple. Even if you're rich, 3 child cap. Thinking about a 4th kid, no, gets aborted. All the problems in the world come down to over population.

If you can't afford to support your kids, don't have them.

can you see into the future?? should you not have them until you have enough in the bank for 16 years support??

circumstances change, illness, redundant, relation break ups, etc..

benefits are not just for ex jeremy kyle guests....

Stop sitting on the fence, say what you really think.

Going back to the article having read it again, and still having a head full of cold, I am still confused, but it is talking of a cap, not giving all families on benefits 26k, in fact

"On Monday the government revised up its estimate of how many households would be affected - from 50,000 to 67,000, although the amount of money they would lose was revised down from £93-a-week to £83-a-week.

The cap would be £500 a week, equivalent to the average wage earned by working households, after tax."

So it is only the current top benefit recipients that will lose out, most families on benefits will not be on more than 26k a year 67,000 is not many in the grand scheme of 70million people in the UK.

Edit: I guess the problem is they are looking at taking about £100 a week off some families who have been receiving a lot of money on Benefits and have got used to that way of living, now taking £100 a week away will seem like a lot.

Amen to that. Having children should be a privilege not a right. My folks wanted three kids but, having had two, couldn't afford to have another and didn't want to rely on the state.

22 and 19 year old have no interest in football and the 17 year old supports Southampton - he's sitting with us in the City end tonight lol

Well you're lucky this time.

But 4 kids? Come on man, really?

Yes - two from wife's first marriage, two from ours.

Don't worry though, all self-funded and all in either work or education.

He's already experienced the 'joys' of being a City fan - relegation at Stoke and promotion at Southend.

I think he knows what he's let himself in for lol

I'm not one of these 'i hate benefits' people. A lot people need and rely on them and a lot of the time the system has fvcked them and they have no choice. Im more angry at people who just fvcking breed for the sake of breeding. Like somehow having a stupid kid will make your life be more fulfilled. I'm fed up of people telling me and wife that we 'MUST HAVE' a baby and that 'its the best thing you'll ever do' bullshit.

great love to get it.................as a pensioner looking after a disabled wife we are living on £8000 A YEAR

Unfortunately it is a cap and is only going to reduce the top end benefits recipients and not increase the existing benefits of others, on the advice of Head Honcho I have been watching Saints and Scroungers on the BBC and it does seem like a lot of people are not receiving the benefits they deserve it may be worth looking in to.

Those two adults have the incentive to split up and live in two different households. This way, they are entitled to more benefits.
