Use local lads, they will lead the way long term

You like to see young players from the city or area around Leicester getting a chance. This is really what footall is all about and how it should be. These days it looks as if a player is far away Japan or Hawaii or whatever, let's sign him.

But if you look back at City's best local players, here is my team and pick, and most of them played a long time ago,

1. Peter Shilton, Leicester, played for England

2. Steve Whitworth, Coalville, played for England

3. Joe Mattock, Leicester, played for England U.21

4. Andy Peake, Market Harborough, played for England U.21

5. Graham Cross, Leicester, played for England U.23

6. Alan Woollett, Leicester

7. David Tomlin, Nuneaton

8. Stefan Oakes, Leicester

9. Gary Lineker, Leicester, played for England

10. Bob Lee, Melton Mowbray

11. Emile Heskey, Leicester, played for England

12. Jeff Blockley, born in Leicester, but turned pro with Coventry and was signed back for £ 100 000, played for England

13. Chris Kirkland, born in Leicester, joined on loan, played for England

14. Russell Hoult, born in Leicester, but never really given a chance, played for England U.21

15. Matt Heath, born in Leicester, played in the Premier League, but sold to Coventry.

16. Matt Mills, born in Leicester, signed to the club for £ 5.5 million

Might have forgotten someone, but very few local lads makes the grade, and why are the academies doing totally wrong, or is it not possible to find talent in an area with a city and urban area with almost 450 000 citizens.

But this is not typical Leicester City, it's a general problem in football. What you have in your backyard should not thrown away, not given a chance to grow or just throw them out and sign them back for £ 5.5 million. This is really a shame.

Your argument lost all credibility the moment you called Mattock a good player.

Also I don't think Mills was ever involved with our academy - we didn't throw him out, then resign him for 5.5 mill (particularly since he didn't cost 5.5 mill)

Why shouldn't the club use more time bringing forward young talent from the city ?, because Matt Mills was not involved in the academy and Joe Mattock is not a good player, who of the local lads of Leicester do you think should be picked for left back ?

Because not many teams do. You've only got to look at your team and not many are recent. The manager doesnt just overlook the players for the sake of it, this is done because they are not good enough or dont fit into the system. The only one player who has gone onto better things is max gradel and stearman (to a certain level)

Yes its nice to see local lads playing for the club but the success of the club is more important. Would you be happy to be loosing every week but it doesnt matter as they are all local lads playing in the blue shirt.

the young lad that's scoring for Derby (Ball, don't know his 1st name) is from BLE I think, how did we miss him, Paul Anderson at Forest is from Leicester and apparently hates us as the club messed him about when he was a YTS wannabe, Luke Varney has had a decent career too

The club don't deliberately ignore local talent. If they spot a lad who they think is good enough I'm sure they will sign him up.

Oh how I long for there to be a form of football where teams are only allowed to select players from within local geographical boundries. I bet it would be massive. Players would care so much more about it than they do playing for their current clubs. They'd definitely be a hugely successful team from somewhere around our neck of the woods. We'd probably dominate the world.

So ya owens and shearer's are playing at the cobbler's and the like.

Then we end up with a fryatt type player playing for england cos he was born 50yrds from OT lol lol lol

But look at how many decent players there are in the world who were not born in Leicester? Messi? Ronaldo? etc.

But Hawaiian players are so much better!

Tut Finchy thats racist.
