flowwolf Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 When you pay hard earned money in expectation of at least your team trying their hardest and that does not happen ( too many times this season ) it is bloody hard to get motivated. In short we have had bugger all to be " atmospheric " about have we ? Plus the fact that the P.C brigade have infiltrated even football. You know the kind of crap we hear over the tanoy " anyone swearing will be asked to leave ect. Stupid parents bringing their kids into the kop then getting all shirty and asking you not to swear in front of their kids. You can's smoke or drink in your seats that you have paid minimum £27.00 even though it's outside ( though not for Rugby) ? Jumped up, hyped up, snot for brains jobs worth stewards, plus empty seats due to the prices . All in all Football has changed for ever with the owners aiming at the family market and wanting complete control of the punters . I'm afraid the days you are hankering for are dead and gone forever.
purpleronnie Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 I have an idea. We should move the kop next to the away fans. Thats so crazy it might just work. Look we have the most boring fans in the world with the most oppressive stadium rules, it will always be shit.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Success breeds success Success brings elation Elation makes joy & pleasure Express joy & pleasure by jumping up & down & shouting Hey presto .......atmosphere !!
purpleronnie Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Sad state of affairs if you have to be successful for a good atmosphere.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Sad state of affairs if you have to be successful for a good atmosphere. Certainly helps don't you think ???
flowwolf Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Plenty of empty space at the ground and in space there is no atmosphere, basic physics.

dave the caveman Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Let's not beat around the bush: the type of people you need to create a vibrant old school atmosphere are basically low life thugs outside of football. They're the type to get pissed up and a little bit oooo a little bit aayy. They're the ones who chant GET INTO EM **** EM UP not with mischievous subtly but genuine bloodlust. You need the dregs of society at the game to make the atmosphere wild like it used to be. But those people can't afford it. They don't earn much if any money so football tickets are beyond them. Learn to live with crap atmospheres. It's never going to be how it used to be.
kyleolly Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Unreserved seating in the Kop and no consesions purely adult ticket pricing!
Weller in Tights Posted 9 February 2012 Author Posted 9 February 2012 Cheers folks Loads of great replies No Sarcasm, No patronising comments, No attempts at trite jokes/remarks, No referal to me possibly just being a lazy old thug. Basically the theme running through the replies was "get used to it, this is the way it is" Suppose I will have to try to get to more away games (currently go all home games and about a third of away games, with age brings other responsibilities, be warned), at least there is some attempt at an atmosphere there. Anyway, Keep the faith. BLUE ARMY

Matt Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 Isn't there some kind of university course people can go on to learn how to create atmosphere?

deep blue Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 We could do with an acoustics expert on board. Many people put the lack of atmoshere down in part to the design of modern stadia. i wonder if there is a structural amendment that could be made to the ground to improve the acoustics. In the University of Manchester Concert Hall a simple fix was applied recently (wooden strips attached vertically to the back wall) to absorb the echos and make the sound more balanced. I wonder if it is technically possible to do something to the King Power to produce the opposite effect i.e. to increase the sound. One thing that's beyond science, I imagine, is being able to replicate the tremendous atmosphere created at Filbo by those in the upper storey of the double decker stamping on the wooden floor. Awesome, that was.

You are clearly not that well educated (again, no offence, just judging by your total lack of ability regards spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax) and although you certainly can bet that you earn more than me and maybe you even do earn more than me, you're lower working class and will take that to your grave, no matter how much you earn. In other words, you're just the type of person we need at the ground precisely because, like you say, you like a drink and a "sing song" ( , how quaint). I'm not having a pop at you people, I think you should be encouraged to get to the stadium and get all your little worries off your chest by cheering on the team. It'll make the atmosphere so much better, even for those of us in the executive suites.
iancognito Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 If there are a lot of like minded people in the Kop why don't they just not go to their seat number and sit where the like? Another big problem is the bores in the West Stand. I like my view but the people just bloody groan when a pass is short. They don't move for 90 minutes unless we score, or we are playing badly someone stands up just to shout "Beckford your a lazy Coont". We need someone on the inside to put speed in the drinks in the Concourse so they go ape shit for 90 mins. The borough game was a massive improvement - getting behind the team when we are down. And it's always special when 20,000 fans unite together to call the ref a W.....! A lot of people in there complain about the sweary chants and noisy, raucous behaviour in L and K yet the people in there were the ones gobbing on Brian Little and screaming at O'Neill to resign after two games. Back on topic though..... I totally agree with everything the poster is saying but we haven't got a united set of fans. The die-hard Koppites won't come to L & K and vice versa, the people who go into both those areas rarely meet up anyway and they're all spread across various forums such as here and the roof and others. Have a word with Birch. Maybe the 20 people who listen to his half time gibbering will rally together and get something started but tbh I've accepted a while ago that it's not going to happen. Football is becoming the new rugby. Families, happy clapping and the biggest noise in the ground coming when the bar runs out of watered-down lager.
FuriousFox46 Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 I have an idea. We should move the kop next to the away fans. My god! It's revolutionary!

Dan Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 I don't even think our acoustics are that bad, it's just an excuse for shit atmosphere. We've heard away fans plenty of times. The fact is the club have for years been trying to fvck off the ones who make the atmosphere and bring in whoever will spend more money on whatever, families are ideal for the club in modern football, so it's the least you expect. What someone said earlier was true to an extent, it's pretty stereotypical and I'm not labelling people as thugs but the general thing is working class males are often noisier, I'm not saying all are, or all non-working class males aren't, but it's fact that they're often louder (I don't want any of you on good income and speaking like "barth" telling me how you sing at football either, because I'm aware some do). The fact is a lot of these have been priced out. So ultimately, the club, maybe don't deliberately make it a shit atmosphere, but they prioritise it far lower than they'd like you to think. I've got hope the penny will drop in this country one day, but I can see it taking years.

Houdini Logic Posted 9 February 2012 Posted 9 February 2012 An insult as limp as it's subject matter. Though ironically an insult above the belt . You should try it some time - tact and wit are an amazing thing.

Who on earth do you think you are? which century do you live in???? I started this thread because I love the whole football experience, I've been going since I was 8, seen good and bad times, I have brought up my kids to be city fans and I take them down there. I have done my fare share of singing creating an atmosphere etc. Yes some have said why dont YOU do something, fair point I am koping out I suppose. Its just I watch clips of fans like St Pauli and think, they've done it, they are a much smaller club than us, how did they do it, I wish someone here would do it. Sorry, age, health, work and family committments mean I can't start the ball rolling. One last thing. Does it really matter if we make grammatical, punctuation or spelling errors???? really???? most of us are not typists, are typing while in a mood and as long as we get the point across do we REALLY have to have spelling, grammar and syntax correct? Oh Yeah BLUE ARMY Dave, Fcuk off down the rugby
