WHAT IS HE SUPPOSED TO SAY? Everybody would be moaning had he said lets all give up and many would require a 33% refund on their season tickets? Why not persist with the squad? We're not going up so why waste money on loans, why develop players that will disappoint us when they choose not to sign in the summer. What you want is a repeat of last season, look what mess that created this year.
Kitchandro Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I swear somebody has copied & pasted these pages from the last time we had a disappointing defeat/draw, and probably the time before that etc etc. There seems to be a persistent view about the place that this team is good enough to get promoted, but more often than not they play like a mid table side. Defies logic really. I blame O'Neill, for that temporary blip of success and for giving too many people the expectation that we should be pounding teams like Watford. That hasn't been the case since the late 70s when they were in the 4th Division. And even then it was touch and go We should be beating, not necessarily pounding, teams like Watford because they routinely sell their best players every summer and narrowly stay in the division on a shoe-string, whereas we've spent far more than anyone else in this division. and get twice as many fans as them for a home game in this league. BTW, I don't understand this idea that the O'Neill years were a 'temporary blip of success' as if the club was punching well above it's weight. We've been in the top division quite a lot and have had other consistent periods, albeit without as much cup success. We have been punching well below our weight for all but one of the last 7 or 8 years. We are where we are and we have to get on with it but frankly we have been a disgrace for some time. My hope will return as the only enjoyable seasons I've really seen have been under Pearson.

Suddenly and irrationally we sacked our manager, appointed a manager who, is good at keeping clubs up and working under difficult circumstances and playing simple football. Since that time, we have gone backwards, given a few more weeks, who knows, we might find ourselves fighting to avoid a relegation battle and then NP will be right at home. He had opportunity to make changes and buy /loan new players but has done little. My initial reaction was excessive, i hate our manager merry go round, but.. BUT.... i ask, is NP the best manager to take this club forward and possibly into the premier league? My answer is quite simply no, so lets make a move lets get someone in who is capable of playing the football needed to win games, get promotion and build a side and style that will compete in the premiership.

I know where you're coming from, but being a wealthier, bigger club somehow never seems to work in our favour. It seems to be more of a hindrance than anything as we often under-perform against smaller clubs like watford. I'd argue we were punching above our weight under O'Neill in terms of the cups, but not in the League. And yes we've been largely crap ever since. Somewhere in between would be more like "normal service"

I'll bite. Under Sven our quality of play was not as good as you may remember. In fact it was frustrating, toothless, and even boring at times. The continental pass it around for 20 minutes before shooting style wasn't doing us any good. We never seemed to play with any desire, hence the demands for passionNNNNNNNNNNN. Sven did make some good signings but some were terrible. Remember Ball, Johnson, Bednar? Let's not forget that for the whole time we were under Sven we were never in the Top 6. Let's not also forget that Sven had had no success anywhere for years before coming to us, unlike Nigel. Pearson has made some good signings in January without breaking the bank, buying players we don't need, and tempting players with insane wages. If Sven had been allowed near the chequebook again we'd be going the way of Portsmouth come summer. You say that Pearson isn't the man to take us to the PL.. who took us to the play offs a few years ago? Suggesting that a relegation battle beckons is just ridiculous. Do you really think that Forest, Cov and co are going to get 15 more points than us each in the next few months? Just you wait and see, next season under Pearson, we'll be top 2.

You really are a muppet aren't you? Every team within 12 points is going to come out in the media and state they are trying to reach play-offs. He is hardly going to come out an say we are happy with finishing 15th. How do you know he isn't trying to get someone in during the loan window? He is hardly going to loan someone for the sake of loaning someone in just to please you. You're the biggest knee jerker on this forum i remember you being certain Beckford was leaving all because you read a rumour on twitter. Were all pissed off we didn't win but seriously before you keep posting utter shite try and actually use your brain for once.

Basingstoke Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Sorry but I though the atmosphere in our end was cack. Even when we were winning, it was silent for long periods. That said, I was right near the front of our fans today and it just didn't seem to get going there at all, wish I had seats that were further up! Watford were there for the taking, they really were not very good. But unfortunately, we were unable to get anything from the game. The defense overall was sh*t. Sorry but they really shouldn't have been allowed to create the chances that they did. 1st goal was a sh*t one to give away. Also, we should've controlled the game better when we went 2-1, that said, I thought the equaliser was very lucky on their part. The whole game seemed dead. Drinkwater coming off was definitely a blow. Dannzy seemed to read the game well and made many interceptions but unfortunately that was often let down by sloppy passing. I thought Gallagher had a decent game in that he was probably our most likely outlet . He got some fantastic crosses in there that were just begging to be put away. On a positive note, Nugent's 2nd was an absolute joy to watch. In fact if it wasn't for Nugent's goals, that would've been the sh*ttest away day for a long time.
beemeroo Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I was surprised at the atmosphere as last time I went to Watford away (the 3-3) it was absolutely rocking. That said the players served up some atrocious football at times (more like volleyball for long periods), so it's kind of difficult to get any crowd momentum going.

Football sucks this year just glad when man utd lose! Lets face it and most cant Ian Holloway is a good manager and without the resources we have is likely to get ABlackpool up again so what is our excuse .
Corky Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Unlike most of the dismal defeats this season we actually played quite well, but let ourselves down again and undid all the sterling work by Beckford and Nugent in turning the game round by throwing it away through careless play in the midfield. We dominated the second half, but we didn't make it count and paid for it. One excellent performance followed by a below-par result. It's why we're 12th and going nowhere fast. Only ourselves to blame.

You can see he he as dipped his shoulder and charged he out of the way . They didn't transfer the suspension because it's clearly not denying a goalscoring opportunity with the blameless Doyley between the player and the goal. I can understand you being disappointed about losing a game like that; as someone pointed out, we're hardly in your league as far as outlay goes. Had to laugh at the comment deriding John Eustace as our star player though. The one player who defines what your side is lacking. Also suspect that the perspective of those that went was coloured by the outcome. You would have had a very different attitude if you'd grabbed the late winner, not us, which could easily have happened.
