I'm trying to read what pearson was saying post match. He seemed happy with the strikers so he's not going to change that round but he said he's going to make changes. He bought Morgan on so I'm assuming this is a lead up to replacing mills. Wellens and Gallagher can't play 2 decent games on the trot. No coincidence there is there.

I think the beckford and nugent partnership is looking decent with very limited service from our poor midfield. I don't know if Pearson likes him or not and ultimately it will be his decision I he stays or goes but I think he can do a job here. Each to their own though

Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 Anyone who was at the match got a view, from the radio it didn't sound like we were that bad, we created chances and could have scored more with a bit more composure/luck, their goals were from 2 set-pieces which is disappointing and something we need to work on, and maybe need Bamba back, Konchesky, Bamba, Mills, SSL as a back four. Their third should never have been allowed according to the Radio, thems the breaks and when your not getting them, you're not getting them. We will have to wait and see if we should have got a penalty but Stringer was convinced. Would be frustrating if both were true. I know we seem to use the refs as excuses all the time, but a fact is a fact. By all accounts SSL had a good game at RB, which gives us an extra option, Morgan had a couple of dodgy moments but then looked more composed and had a presence in their box. Shame about DD getting injured hopefully it's not serious. BBC Stats say we had more possession, more shots etc so was it really that bad, result apart, the season is already over the most important thing is performances we need to be building for next season, and by all accounts it wasn't that bad a performance.

There is now no way will we get a playoff spot but it appears he is the only one in the universe not to see that. whoareyaaa Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 We cant put any blame on Beckford since NP has came in he has worked his socks of for the team, like others have said its the midfield thats brining this team down. its the backbone of any team from going forward and creating chances to helping out the defence. Seriously needs a big re-shape in the middle of the park the only one worth keeping would be Drinkwater and then Dyer as an impact sub. that is all.

What is killing me is the fact that we can beat anyone in this league and we can dominate good teams, we did 3 days ago. Is it falling attendances will get rid of NP n praps before the seasons end. And NO I AM NOT CALLING FOR HIS HEAD. But I don't see many handing over cash now for a game. The only thing that will save him is a cup run. Peeps will still keep going while we are in the cup. But attendances will start to fall.

Sods Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 Just got back defensive shambles, peltier had a nightmare, mills didn't have a clue and st ledger wasn't much better. We couldn't deal with iwellumo first half, they had nothing to concede 3 goals is criminal. Nugent and beckford were on fire however beckford missed a sitter, Gallagher I thought had his best game for a long time.
Guy Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 The only racing certainty after tonight's game is that these two teams will be playing one another again next season! While Watford wil be grateful for such small mercies come the season's end, we are going to be bitterly disappointed not to have made at least the play offs once again. In a lot of ways it has been a mirror image of last season really but there wasn't the pressure on us last time out compared to this season. With the players we have this season at our disposal then we shouldn't be languishing in 12th place. Our sheer inconsistency has ensured that though and I think if we now emulate last season's 10th place finish under Sven then Pearson will have to be happy with that, all things considered and start to look ahead to making improvements in key areas for next season....otherwise it's going to be very much the same again as this disappointing season may well turn out to be, or maybe worse! As for this season, tonight's game has summed it up a treat as other posters have stated already. First and foremost is the fact that we still haven't won back to back games. That monkey on our back is getting increasingly bigger with every passing defeat or draw and I'd be surprised if we managed it this season now! A team that can't even do that doesn't deserve to go up! Another "no brainer" observation has been that our players can raise their game and motivate themselves to beat the better teams but we cannot seem to beat the teams we are the strong favourites to beat, with Watford being a classic case in point.......even though our track record at Vicarage Road isn't the best....as I think we lost 3-2 there last season too in an eerily similar manner to tonight! Now even Coventry at home and Derby away look more loseable after tonight! While the cup will act as a welcome distraction at Norwich on Saturday, if we lose that (as is likely) then the season is to all intents and purposes over and time to rebuild for the next, whether that responsiblity will fall to Pearson or a.n.other........

I kmow its not his proper position but it could really make us so much stronger at the back. Peltier hasnt been good enough lately he clearly cent defend and has been responsible for so many goals this.season. Playing SSL there might have the same impact as having Morrison there a few years ago did. Would make us concentrate on defending and makeus harder to beat. Would at least be in position unlike peltier.

Beckford did provide assists for Nugent's goals but he is sadly not going to be good enough for a promotion chasing side. We scored 2 should have been 5.............they scored 3............ermmm.........think that may be down to the defence don't you ?

Did get a little lucky but all teams need a bit of that...like our 2nd from a deflected free kick. 2 excellent goals by Nugent and Beckford wasn't bad missed a real sitter as we did first half.... Good following from your boys (and girls) Best of luck for the season..games between us tend to bring there fair share of goals! Officials were pretty poor for both sides.

All huff and puff and touches of class hides not the fact that Beckford has not scored anywhere near enough goals this season. Taking your chances is the difference between success and failure in football. We need another consistent goal taker or we are going nowhere. I think I said exactly the same thing nie on three months ago.

He's a type of player that we should be flicking the ball on too. Nope he didn't score as he was illegally hacked down but his strike partner scored twice watch beckford in the build up, we really shouldn't be looking at negatives too our strike force tonight!

I have been saying for the last 6 months that Beckford is simply wrong for us, we play a lot of long balls and that really does not suit him, get him into a decent, quick passing side and he will score plenty.....

Credit where credit's due. Beckford did make a positive contribution to the game but it does show how weak our squad is when there is no competition in the striking roles.The game was lost by the overall lack of composure in the team. Gallagher and Dyer offered little. Wellens was tired and Danns is enthusiastic but of only average quality - his losing possession led to their third goal. Konchesky again had an average game and his hesitancy with the ball is irritating. Mills was again average and I would like to see how Bamba and Morgan play together in coming games.
