Haydos Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Why is there no restriction on thread starters? IMO it would be sensible if there were a minimum post count/reputation needed to start new threads. A lot of new accounts seem to spring up and I'm sure 80% of them disappear within a couple of hundred posts, but only after starting several stupid threads. Is it simply to do with not wanting to turn potential traffic away or are there other reasons behind it?
jonlcfc1990 Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 This has some Merit but if you start holding people back from starting topics then we might end up losing the charm, Diversity and banter of this Forum and website. I'm guessing this is in responce to the "Pearson out" and "Firesale (bonfire)" topics but at the end of the day everyone is allowed an opinion and we as fans either agree or provide counter arguements, It's all just a good bit of fun Plus if there was a post quota needed people would just quote posts loads of times and post one word posts to get it up fast... So it wouldn't be hard to reach a level of being able to post topics.

Opinions are one thing but there's so much shit around nowadays. They're even managing to post Pearson out threads in Gen Chat, I thought we were safe
21st Century Fox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Each thread should be fitted with a disabled Alarm™ The noise would be cacophonous in the main forum though.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Each thread should be fitted with a disabled Alarm™ The noise would be cacophonous in the main forum though. I completely agree with the use of this disabled Alarm I could do with it at work
The Doctor Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Please no to the disabled alarm, I can't deal with that much noise. The solution is simple. Round up all the youths, IQ test them and kill/ban the ones that fall below a certain score.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 better just Kill no point in risking the ban hammer they could always get back in
21st Century Fox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 If you type in text speak the background to your comment should automatically turn to Burberry so it can be instantly recognised and dismissed by the reader.
Saxondale Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 It's not people's lunatic opinions that are the problem, it's the way some posters start threads without looking to see whether it's been covered by an existing thread. We must have has about 10 Pearson Out and 10 Keep Pearson threads in the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, our esteemed mods do a good job of merging and deleting.
Fox92 Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 People have thier own opinions, and stopping them to start threads wouldn't be fair would it? I do agree with you abit though; needing a certain amount of posts/rep first. Take a look down the members thread, people signed up days, months or years ago and have no posts! I don't like Pearson out or whatever, thread after thread, but at the end of the day it is someone's opinion and just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it wrong or bad.

It's like BornBlue said though, people posting opinions is fine (most of the time), it's the creation of threads that are already created that annoys. If you have something you want to say regarding Pearson out, put it in the pre-existing thread rather than making a new one. After all, that's what the Pearson out thread is for.

whoareyaaa Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 just add a 10 post count to new members before they are allowed to start a new thread, this wouldnt stop anyone from joining the forum but would help in people starting a new pointless thread then fvcking off. I have to agree there are quite a lot of repeat or bullshit threads but the mods do a good enough job in clearing them up.
Rincewind Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 I only visit the City forum on match days and day after if they have a good win. If there are a lot of threads I just open and close the ones I am not too bothered about. If you stop people posting the posters will be limited to just a few if you say no stupid posts and who decides which are worthy. There would be a mass exodus if posts were judged on the intelligence of the poster. This forum would be very quiet and I would be lonely here on my own.

But people post without looking to see if there are other similar threads. I don't mean the search engine should always be used, but how many threads do we have regarding Chelsea? One called 'Chelsea' one called '830am' one called 'where are people sitting in the chelsea end' one called 'Chelsea tickets sold out' and so on. That's annoying.
Webbo Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 except webbo, he's living up to his tory roots and buggering up everything he's in control of. Efficient and value for money, that's me.
Daggers Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 except webbo, he's living up to his tory roots and buggering up everything he's in control of. Bloody right. We should privatise him and get a big Queen to open up the relaunched forum. Just need to think about who might be the biggest drama queen here...

Daggers Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 I'm happy with Smuts for forum Queen. Now we just need tenders from members willing to discuss contract terms for the post of Webbo.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 And another thing- threads turning into pointless drivel
