joelmurray Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 A football league blogger, Experimental 3-6-1, has created an animation and table of what the Championship would look like were matches for each team to end earlier than the normal 90 minutes. It's well worth a read and a bit of a study: http://experimental3...-ended-earlier/. For Leicester, we can see the horrendously slow starts that we have had to matches (if matches ended after 5 minutes we would be in the relegation zone) but we generally do very well between the 20th and 75 th minutes (putting us in and close to the play-off places). Sadly the last ten minutes, especially around the end of the match, we fall away badly. Check out the table below: Thoughts anyone? Clearly, we need to get out of the traps quicker and keep our concentration right to the final whistle...
Wycombe Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Interesting. So Blackpool are likely to score in the last 5 minutes tonight then, but we're more likely to score in the preceding 85. Decent odds.
NewburyFox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 That's a very good table. I'm amazed that we're in the play-off positions so many times, and it does show how bad we tend to start matches.
StanSP Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 It's good, well put together and must have taken a lot of time, but also extremely pointless cos at the end of the day, it means nothing. If we won every single match, we'd be top and have a great goal-difference... It tells us what is most likely to be true, but it still means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Larry_LCFC Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 What it shows us is that we switch off towards the end of our matches and it has cost us!

Kitchandro Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 This reminds me of the famous 03/04 season stats. Had matches finished after 80 minutes we would have finished 5th or something ridiculous.

21st Century Fox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 This seems pretty topical. This is genius stuff from Ben Mayhew @experimental361. The Football League blogger has worked out what the Championship league table would look like if every match this season had been suddenly ended at the same specific minute. As he explains: "For example, if every game had finished on 85 minutes, would your team be sitting higher in the table having not conceded all those last-minute equalisers and winners?" You'll need to watch this full screen to work out what's going on: "Burnley certainly start well, don’t they?" says Ben "It’s also interesting how many crucial goals Birmingham score late on. You’ll notice that I’ve split out home and away records so that you can see where each team’s goals are going in, and also that I haven’t taken Portsmouth’s points deduction into account (given that it isn’t a reflection of their on-field performance). "I’m aware that I could have done a better job of the video, so just in case it looks horrible I have prepared a backup plan. The following graphic (which clicking will enlarge) shows how the table would look after each 5 minute interval: HERE"
HEGGSY Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 http://www.foxestalk...62#entry2182962 It's strange to think that we'd be pushing second
Mack Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 But as games last 90 minutes this is completely pointless.
21st Century Fox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 Well it shows at which point in a game we drop the majority of our points.
Matt Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 IF our defence was abit tighter, and the team had performed better we'd have won alot more game and be alot higher than we are. Shame it's a big if though. Like Mack said games last 90 minutes, and have done for many many years (Forever even? ) it's not like games changed from being 60 minutes to 90 at the start of the season. Now can we stop all the bullshit excuses of if games finished after 60 minutes, or referees have cost us X amount of points and just admit our team hasn't been good enough or consistant enough and draw a line under it, and preferably sort it for next season, I find all these tin-pot excuses abit embaressing.
demon_dog Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 Bloody ref's, they've been crap this season, can't even get the time right !
21st Century Fox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 It's not saying if matches were actually 60 minutes we'd be 3rd, its showing where our inconsistencies lie, we obviously f**k up in the last 30 minutes on average, it serves an analytical purpose.

I agree, this is a very interesting statistic. Illustrates to me that we are generally a weak-minded team, with the inability to see out games in a professional manner and no natural leader. How often is it that we win points by scoring late on? We'd still be pushing play-offs if we hadn't conceded in the last five or 10 minutes of games. Very unlike a Nigel Pearson side to me, we were water-tight during his first stint. Expecting wholesale changes in the summer.
HoustonFox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 But as games last 90 minutes this is completely pointless. We all know that but come on. Let us feel a bit good about ourselves (well for at least 60 minutes)...
Guest Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 Wow! great find Shows how really bad we've been in the last couple of minutes and injury time of games.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 But as games last 90 minutes this is completely pointless. as we have been quite often at 90 minutes
Guest Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 But as games last 90 minutes this is completely pointless. Sadly for us games last longer than 90 minutes and in injury time we concede far more goals than we score.

_Fatboyslow_ Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 And if the club had let Person go in the first place we would have been in the PL. What a waste of time And if the club had not let Person go in the first place we would have been in the PL. What a waste of time
