Cecchini1976 Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 For me Wellens should be dropped, all season he has under performed & the fact is he is the holding midfielder and part of that role is to help the defence, & unfortunately he has not got the legs for this. His passing is side ways or backwards and seems to give away possession more often than not. All season on this forum people have been sticking up for Wellens, and when he has 1 good game in 10, you get the I told you he was good. I can't believe all LCFC fans can't see he is a weak link in the team.We also have people slating Mills and Beckford all season, & again can't work why? Can only be the price tags. For me Mills is a brilliant defender, yes his distribution is poor, but defensively solid, as for Beckford, I think if you give him the ball in the correct areas will score for fun, as he is starting to do. Anyway COYB
Bayfox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 you had me until you said mills was good. now is the time to go with danns and drinkwater in a 442 or change the fcuking system and get danns, drinkwater and king in a 3.
blueharmie Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 He had one good game a month if that. Poor player now , way past hIs best.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Has one bad game the thread starts again has one bad game thread starts again has one bad game thread starts again.... Let me know if this is to repetitive for you but at the rate Wellens has been dragged up this season people seem to love repeating themselves
ramadaone Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 I think in his prime he maybe could have done the holding midfielder job but as discussed above he can't get around the pitch quick enough But his biggest downfall for me is that he simply plays too deep and actually ends up IN our back four rather than sitting IN FRONT offereing the protection they desperately need. The other thing Wellens struggles with is filling in when the full backs bomb forward as he doesn't see the danger quick enough or when he does he hasn't got the speed to be able to cover quick enough. The holding midfield role is a specific role and a difficult one that can only be undertaken by certain players - need to be disciplined, read the game quickly but then have the physical attributes to be able to react ( ie be a bit quicker than Wellens ) I'm not sure we have a natural holding midfielder at the club and possibly Wellens is the best in that role at present so for me its a top priority for NP to get someone in to do this role next season As usual Wellens will get plenty of the blame which I think is a bit unfair because for me he is a square peg in a round hole
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Gonna go out on a limb again here... I've always been a Wellens fan, but I believe his lack of pace and physical strength has not helped the team one bit this season. My opinion is that we don't defend well as a team and that the opposition can run through us like a knife through butter. It's been apparent all season. Wellens remains a good player, but this aspect of his game is now poor.. We must get in a younger, tougher, quicker central midfielder or this team is going nowhere. It's time for Wellens to move on and for us to do so also IMO.
seenitall Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Blimey, you'll be saying Beckford is a passable striker next
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Blimey, you'll be saying Beckford is a passable striker next I have... See other threads. Try harder mate...
Guest Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Wellens should move to a Div 1 club where his speed wouldn't be such a problem. He could become the General - should take Steve Howard with him.
Yojoe36 Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Is anyone counting the amount of 'Wellens is shit' threads?
Jimmy Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Wellens has been the ONLY constant in midfield the past 2 seasons, for which the midfield has been our biggest problem, so MAYBE, just maybe its time to try without Richie Wellens. He may well be technically the best player but if the team is better balanced without him we HAVE to get rid
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 or change the fcuking system This 100% you can't fix what never worked
Bugg Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 I was at the game last night, and he definitely was the weak link in the team. He had been better recently but he put in a "Wellens against Hull" performance last night.
Cecchini1976 Posted 22 March 2012 Author Posted 22 March 2012 I am not saying Wellens is rubbish, it's just that he does not seem to be the right man for the role, and don't really see a future for him in our starting 11, I he was a few years younger I thing he would be fine, but we need a player who can interrupt the play for 90 mins. I don't think he is good enough to be in a team with the ambitions we have, that's all, and for me he has proved this to me on to many occasions this season. It's not a case of like or not like, more that he is not good enough
iamafox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 I've heard that King isn't far away from full fitness, so could Wellens' place in the starting XI be in jeopardy?
shade Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 wellens, dyer and gallagher aren't good enough, bottom line.
marbelladave Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Oh dear lord And it wasn't even me!...... I have now officially given up trying 'cure' some of our fans of their delusions, as long as they don't hurt any women and children they can think what they like....... Gonna go out on a limb again here... I've always been a Wellens fan, but I believe his lack of pace and physical strength has not helped the team one bit this season. Happy Fox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 We are stuck with him I am afraid for the foreseeable future, if Dyer, Wellens or Gallagher are still on the books come next season we aren't getting promoted. The midfield should be for the remainder of the season, when Vassell is fit hopefully he will replace Dyer. Marshall Danns Drinkwater Dyer

You just say words don't you. Whatever you're thinking, you just say it. On the books? As in they're not even good enough for a spot on the bench? Or even as backup?

Or even as backup? You haven't heard on the books expression before? it means the players in question shouldn't be in the starting line up imo. As for being on the bench am not too fussed but as long as they aren't starting matches next season then all the better as far as I am concerned.

It means 'on the books' as in....employed by the club. Literally.
