without doubt it was too early and whilst i dont like the way he plays and feel he is tactically inept, i wouldnt sack Pearson unless we have a better option.

The big question is why the Thais sacked Sven when they did, if i remember, the pressure and shouts of sven out werent that great, and yet they pulled the trigger so quickly...which leaves us with the big question WHY???

Hmmm i probably shouldve put this in the conspiracy theory thread :)

Yes.

I still think we'd have gone up this season with Sven.

But I wouldn't sack Pearson either, wouldn't solve anything.

I didn't see anything to suggest that Sven was going to take us up this season

Sven was clueless at this level and was like a kid in a sweet shop spending their parents money when it came to transfers. Thank god we didn't get Maynard for 6 mil. Svens legacy of overspending on the wrong players will be felt for a long time. I keep saying it but if we don't get promoted next year, we are in deep trouble

People in the dressing room know the answer - doubt anyone will spill the beans though..

There's no point in sacking Pearson. We've played "pass-the-parcel" with managers for years and it's got us nowhere. And, based on past experience, who could be confident we'd get the right man next time.

Yes, I wanted OGS but who's to know if he'd have come here and Pearson was not a bad choice from those who would although I'd still rather we'd gone for someone more inspiring and innovative - a better tactician if you like and someone with a more rousing personality.

Unless he improves as a manager Pearson will be a nearly man at this level and upwards because he's "one-goal-difference" manager and always leaves the opposition with a chance.

He's not a destroyer or a man with a vision like Wenger, at least from anything I've seen, but a cagey professional who'd be happy to win every game 1-0 if it served his purpose, except that it never works like that.

I'm going to be pedantic, but he's actually improved our goal difference by ten since he joined.

We've only failed to score in three matches since he came back.

Everyone was shocked at the time and we were 2 points off play offs, i believe we would have got promoted with him.

HOWEVER i believe in pearson now.

I like Pearson and will always admire him for the job he did with us first time around.....a very important one at that, then the added bonus of getting us to the play offs the following season. The worst thing to happen was his enforced departure to Hull, coming when it did. His second spell here has seen the jury as still being out so I cannot comment any further on Pearson right now.

However there was no two ways about it that Sven was sacked way too early - mainly as a knee jerk reaction to the defeat at home to Millwall in October after only a year incharge! Yes, we had other disappointments up to that point too but nowhere near enough of them to sack a manager after a mere two months into the new season!! His first season was picking us up after Sousa's intervention and dismantling of NP''s previously successful side, which he unduly did - reaching the play offs would've been a big bonus for us last season after that shocking start but we almost did and I think if we'd had Schmeichel in goall last season we would've made them once again!. This season we started off in a middling-poor way but were still only two points away from the play offs after that Millwall defeat and Sven's departure. I'm sure the team would've dusted itself down and got back to winning ways after that upset.

asking the question to the pearson lickers when would it be the time to say enough is a enough.

I'd love to ask the question "What the fvck is a 'pearson licker'?"

I'd love to but I won't, I fear the answer will be equally confusing.

I notice there's a lot of Pearson lickers out there, because if someone like Davies/Dowie had came and they missed out promotion people on this forum would be calling on there heads to be out, but since it's Pearson "oh no you can't get rid of him". I bet if we sitting in the bottom three come October next season people would be saying "we must stick with Pearson he's the man for the job"

Dowie or Davies didn't get us promoted then take us to the play offs the season after. Pearson deserves a good chance with us for all that he did, and should get until at least xmas to prove he's the man for the job.

Rubbish. Maybe there are some people who are willing to give Pearson a bit more leeway than other managers based on his previous stint here, but I think most of us realise that five months is nowhere near enough time to judge a manager, and that we want to see a manager given a fair crack of the whip before being sacked for once. I think you've just proved my point. If we are looking in danger of relegation come October, then I expect most people will want to see NP replaced. The point is, we're not. We've done slightly better since NP returned, and he hasn't had half a decent chance to buy or sell players yet.

asking the question to the pearson lickers when would it be the time to say enough is a enough.

Maybe after he's had a decent chance to make changes to the squad and it becomes clear that we're going backwards?

p.s. What the fvck is a "Pearson licker"?

The only successful manage this club has had in the past 5 years is NP.

Sousa has come and gone, and so has Sven.

We are forgetting the job which Pearson did for us last time around, different managers have different playstyles and different styles of management, clearly a lot of the players at this club do not suit pearson, and appear to also be affecting some of the other players in our squad from previous seasons.

Lets face it, if players will not perform for the manager who bought them, who will they perform for?

I think that it was the correct decision to sack Sven mainly because he made such a cock-up with signings and the balance of his squad. He signed his '20-a-season' striker on deadline day after chasing pretty much every man and his dog to play up front for us. At the beginning of the season we had Wellens, King, Abe, Danns, Fernandes, Johnson and Oakley in competition for 2 (arguably 3/4 at times) central midfield berths and we only had Dyer and Gallagher as wingers!

He aimed for 2 players for every position but this just led to conflict, yes I think this should be the case that we have reasonable back up but he sent out Kennedy on loan and brought in Michael Ball  He should have aimed to integrate some of the youth players into his squad more rather than SIGNING two players for every place, Moore, Schlupp, Parkes/Bolger all capable as back-ups if necessary. He signed Pantsil and Peltier - two players who were never going to be content with not starting when signing one would have just been fine with St.Ledger able to do a job at RB too.

Sven built a massively unbalanced squad which was causing issues left right and centre. We had to adopt a formation with a diamond to accomodate 4 centre midfielders to keep everybody happy. Once that formation was worked out, we were never going to succeed from there on in.

No a dozen games was enough for him as we were so poor at the back end of last season.

The players and tactics he brought in were questionable, and not good enough.

Deserved to go.

Yes he was sacked too early.

But I don't think we'd have done any better with him still in charge.

And I would much rather have Pearson going into next season.

This.

I will hold my hands up and say I was furious when they sacked Sven, albeit we werent doing great, but I'd have definately given the bloke a chance. When they put Pearson in charge they nearly almost redeemed themselves in my books, as I didnt think we couldve got a much better manager.

Whilst this season has been dismal I think it is evident that the problem with our club does not lie with the manager - we have had 2 VERY good managers in, who have both achieved the same disappointing results.

So, to overcome this, we need to get rid of the 'prima donnas' who do not have a good enough mental ability and sign some players who not only have a high standard of footballing ability, but players who have the right mentality and attitude (Ben Marshall springs to mind). IMO this was Svens downfall. Going forward, I am confident Pearson is the right person to accomplish this.

And if he hadn't signed Beckford on deadline day, who exactly would you have played up front for us this season hmmmmmm?

Yup far too early. Getting rid of him and getting in someone else (no matter who) was always going to be a massive risk to any promotion hopes. Would have been much more constructive to give him till at least Christmas.

As like now, we need to keep Pearson and get some stability in the club.
