Raw Dykes Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 Surely Brian mcdermotts signings where better seeing as they got promoted and more than likely will win the league That's an unfair comparison. NP's only made 3 signings since he returned.
brockmyster Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 That's an unfair comparison. NP's only made 3 signings since he returned. Suppose so but in the same time McDermott only made two permanent ones that I can think of. Don't get me wrong i think Pearsons signings are on the whole good but I just don't agree that he's second to none on that front based on last few months.
seenitall Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Some unsustainably very, very high earners have gone, players with the right aptitude have come in & there is marginal progress with points per game, so if I were them I'd be looking forward to a few more leaving & some more exciting arrivals... And the progress accelerating. 1.448 under Nige v 1.46 this season under Sven so how is this progress?
shade Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 This isn't a we hate NP thread. Just pit yourself in their shoes: What has impressed you about Nigels tenure? Would you back him to spend in the summer and how much? Can you afford to pay off contracts and give him millions to bring in his own players? Is there a manager out there who can get this group of players promoted? After all the booing, has NP lost the fans? Have the Pearson signings proved he can spend money successfully? Has he improved enough individuals to highlight his coaching prowess? I'm sure there are many questions the owners will ask themselves but what do you think. top, is that you?
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I think we all know that we've not progressed under NP as much as we'd like and maybe we did sack Sven too soon. However, i honestly think we have a better chance of challenging next season with NP in charge, his signings history both here and at Hull are second to none...... The owners im sure will not be happy we're still a Championship club after the money spent but, most of that cash was spent by Sven. In comparison NP has spent sweet FA!
jonlcfc1990 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 People looking back at Sven need to get over it now it's over and he's not coming back, You don't have to pin your colours to Pearsons mast but stop going on about Sven. No one here knows what the season would of been like with him unless you've got a crystal ball at the end of the day all the players our Boo boys don't like played under Sven also "Bamba" "Beckford" "Gally" "King" "Wellens" "Pelts" So would the squad have been any different? Would results? Its inconclusive and forever will be.
paulsherwood1 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 What has impressed you about Nigels tenure? Signings, 'passion' Would you back him to spend in the summer and how much? Yes Can you afford to pay off contracts and give him millions to bring in his own players? Yes. Is there a manager out there who can get this group of players promoted? If anybody can, Nigel can. He'll get rid of the trouble makers too. After all the booing, has NP lost the fans? If people want rid of him without a summer and after what he has done for us in the past..they're just thick. Have the Pearson signings proved he can spend money successfully? Easily, the amount of quality signings Nige's team has made in the past prove this. Has he improved enough individuals to highlight his coaching prowess? Not since he came back with every player, but he should be able to get the team working together over the summer. Firstly I don`t think you can say people are thick for questioning Pearson. Everyone talks about the `summer` and the `pre`season` but why! They are not the be all and end all. For most of the summer the players are on holiday! Surely when Nigel came back he didnt say to the owners " Don`t worry lads, we wont improve much from now to May, in fact we wont even get in the top 6 at any point despite us only being 4 points off it now.....but just you wait till the summer!!" It`s also unfair to suggest that what he as done for us in the past should have any bearing at all! Paul Dickov was great for us at his peak. He came back and was crap. Does what he did in the past mean he should start every game? No. I would also seriously question the answer to what has impressed you most about his tenure... passion!! ha ha. Our team is has no passion, no soul! If we had passion we would be beating Peterborough, not losing leads at Watford and Blackpool, not playing out a terrible goal less draw at home to Burnley. Pearson shows no passion in his interviews and his team certainly show no passion at all!
Guest MattP Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 The damage Sven did to this club off the pitch will be looked at in 3-4 times as similar to the damage Taylor caused.

He's inherited alot of players on huge wages. Judging by his signings so far, we'll be ok. Marshall, Drinkwater and Morgan all look good and will be big players next season
flowwolf Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 His signings have been second to none, Also he has changed the atmosphere in the dressing room and has made the players want to play for the club and finally it seems like he is going to clear out all the deadwood In the summer and reduce the wage bill! Therefore if I was the owner I would be slightly happy with NP contribution so far this season! Hang on " made the players want to play for the club " Did you actually go to the Burnley match ? The only dead wood that want's clearing out is Pearson his self. And I believe that's exactly what the owners are planning to do.

Doesnt mean Pearson cant do the job. Do you have any patience or at least have the decency to give the guy the summer to bring some players in? Why you want to keep seeing managers come and go is beyond me!

I don't want to see unnecessary changing of managers , it is unsettling and causes problems. But in terms of taking this club forward I think Pearson has showed he is not the manager to do that. His hoofball style of football , tactical unawareness and limited man management skills means the owners will have little choice but to look around for someone who can.

I too dont want a revolving door of managers, but I fail to see what NP has to offer. No Championship promotions 3 years of managing in the championship and 2 of those years he failed to get a team into the play offs ( if he was so good after a `summer` at Hull, how come they didnt make the play offs this year? ) History of not being able to manage big name players Tactically unaware - play off 1st leg vs cardiff / playing Nugent on the wing / chopping and changing the team purely based on one performance in the previous match, inability to change things to ensure we win. Lower points ratio than Sven Just dont see it.

Look what they've all done. Roy Keane DOES have that on his CV though so does that make him better than NP??? NO!!! The Hull argument is poor as well. He did well to keep them mid table in his first season as he had to completely re hash the squad and build a brand new team. This season they have only got worse since he left..... Plus the one season he had with us, he got us into the playoffs with an average side.... History of not being able to manage big name players, suppose your referring to Matt Mills.....? Is that it cos i cant think of many!!

MattyFromLE Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Agree. I too dont want a revolving door of managers, but I fail to see what NP has to offer. No Championship promotions - Neither has Sven? 3 years of managing in the championship and 2 of those years he failed to get a team into the play offs ( if he was so good after a `summer` at Hull, how come they didnt make the play offs this year? ) Disruption of Pearson coming home obviously has effected the players - Barmby is also a mug. History of not being able to manage big name players - Like who? Tactically unaware - play off 1st leg vs cardiff / playing Nugent on the wing / chopping and changing the team purely based on one performance in the previous match, inability to change things to ensure we win. - Wasn't Sven hailed "the tinkerman" because of his constant changing of the back 4 and midfield? Lower points ratio than Sven - I don't know whether this is true or not so i can't really comment. Sure somebody said before our points ratio this season has improved since his return. Just don't see it.
Mark_w Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 What has impressed you about Nigels tenure? His signings, cost a lot less than many of Sven's did and so far all have done well, especially Marshall who looks great. Would you back him to spend in the summer and how much? Yes, probably less money than Sven was given but only because spending in the way we did last summer isn't sensible. Based however on the players he has brought so far in his second stint I'd trust him with a decent amount. Can you afford to pay off contracts and give him millions to bring in his own players? I don't know, I'm not psychic. I doubt it. Is there a manager out there who can get this group of players promoted? Yes, given a full season and a chance in the transfer window Nigel Pearson is more than capable of doing so. After all the booing, has NP lost the fans? No Have the Pearson signings proved he can spend money successfully? Yes. Has he improved enough individuals to highlight his coaching prowess? I'd say so, some have played worse under Nigel, some have improved. Beckford and Danns stand out as players who have greatly improved under Nigel while the likes of Peltier and Bamba have I feel not looked so good since he came in, it's too early to tell really.
Bayfox Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 the owners aint got a clue about football end of this maybe true, but do you think they have learnt a lesson with Sven? Afterall since NP has returned they have backed him in signing 2 younger players who haven't made a name in the game so far and obviously NP has sole control over footballing affairs afterall we have Matt Mills, Svens expensive captain, now only fit for reserve team football, I can think of a few owners who would want to know why they were paying massive wages to a player not deemed good enough, Mills and Pantsil. So if you have or haven't been impressed with matters on the pitch, do we now think NP only came back for the money at the expensive of his long term career or did the owners promise him total control and the majority of his contract to show improvement once he has molded the squad HIS way?
Babylon Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Good thread. The owners are in the position of being able to get answers we can't. They can sit down with him and ask what he's going to do about it, what players he does and doesn't fancy etc etc. Stuff he's never going to go in much detail about with anyone else. Without being them it's hard so guess what they think based on only a view from the outside, sure they won't be happy with another season in this league. And I'm sure they'll be concerned about there not being an upturn in fortunes. But on the flip side the answers they get might make them feel there is more of a long term strategy in play, compared to how Sven went about things. With young talent being more a part of it and building squad value.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I would be very concerned as an owner. Far from getting us promoted which, was a priority for this season, Pearson has failed to get the players motivated, and respond positively. Had we made the play off's, and missed out there, I would feel much happier, but to have shown no progress whatsoever, would make me very doubtful, as an owner, to allow him to continue.

flowwolf Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Of course you would. Tell me were you happy with how Nigel did in his first spell at the club, and if so, why do you hate him so much? I don't understand why people assume that because some one does not think Pearson is a good manager we "hate" him. It's a very strong word and used as some kind of label by the pro Pearson posters. I certainly don't hate Pearson I don't even know him but I don't think he is the long term answer either.
