Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Still two transfer targets for City recruitment plan by Bill Anderson & Andy Mann Recruiting a left-back and a striker are now the priority for manager Craig Levein as he aims to put the finishing touches to his new-look Leicester City squad. Yesterday's signing of Swedish international Nils-Eric Johansson sorted out the centre of his defence and now Levein is turning his attention elsewhere. He said: "We need one more striker. We have Dion Dublin, David Connolly, Lee Morris and Mark De Vries at the moment. Young Chris O'Grady might come through and we are hopeful of that but we also have our eye on someone." Even though the left-back berth wants attention, the need for another striker signifies a slight change of emphasis and Levein admits he has been building from the back so far, though he could lose another defender as Matt Heath was in talks with Coventry yesterday concerning a possible £200,000 move to rejoin his former boss Micky Adams. He has also been tracked by Championship rivals Hull and Plymouth. Levein said: "The defence has been the priority. Losing Matt Elliott, Martin Keown and Nikos Dabizas out of the squad and with Matt Heath on his way, that department had to be strengthened, preferably with younger players. "There are 46 games with a smaller squad and there is no way players in their 30s are going to be able to handle all of that, so that is why we have looked to younger men. "They also have to be durable. Johansson has not missed a day's training in four years! So that is a factor. "Now we are looking at a left-back, someone I thought I might have in by now. I am trying to get it done as quickly as possible, and get them working as a unit. "The good thing for me is that I am not going to be sitting at the end of the pre-season with several players coming in at the last moment and then have to fit them in. "We are still in the early stages and with Johansson I could put out a back four now. But I want to get things done on a left-back and striker before the weekend if possible." City's moves to bring Darren Kenton to the Walkers Stadium on a full-time basis, though, appear to be at a dead-end. Chief executive Tim Davies told supporters at a fan forum on Tuesday that Kenton is likely to stay at Southampton and be a part of their squad during the new Championship season. Davies said he had contacted Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe about the possibility of signing the defender. However, Lowe said Kenton, who spent the end of last season on loan at City, is under contract for another year and is likely to feature in Southampton manager Harry Redknapp's plans. City open their pre-season fixtures at Kettering on Sunday but the main focus is the two-game tour to Norway next week. By then, Levein should have everything in place. I still reckon there will be one centre half, one left back and one striker coming in. Nice to hear Levein say a striker is now priority.
Ricey Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Pleased to hear that he wants a striker, I was getting worried.
Hitesh Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Whats happened to Tommy Wright? Anyway, glad to hear that we have some possibilites of a signing a few players before the weekend.
Janx Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 That lad couldnt find his arse with both hands, let alone bang them in on a regular basis... hopefully he is currently scanning the Coventry Mail or whatever piss poor rag they read looking for a bedsit!

Cobbo Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Whats happened to Tommy Wright?Anyway, glad to hear that we have some possibilites of a signing a few players before the weekend. 133582 He's not very good.
Nationwider Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Whats happened to Tommy Wright? 133582 He'll be off soon enough. CL has indicated his striking options may include O'Grady and Morris ( ) and a new boy - alongside MDV, DC and DD, so Oooh Tommeh is well and truly out of the picture.
Mad Dog Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Morris might figure more than we expect you know, as a striker. Who knows. If he stays fit he might be good enough at championship level?
Fox in a Box Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Burt o Brien is a striker and the defender from hammerby and with at least £250,000 from the sales of jordan and heath we must at least stand a chance of 1 or both. I predict £100K + Canero for Burty £250K for a defender.
Kingy Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 From the messiah's words above I don't think he'll replace Heath. Just 1 left back and 1 striker who is this burt o'brien ??
Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2005 Author Posted 7 July 2005 O'Brien is on a bosman so we'll get him for free.

Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2005 Author Posted 7 July 2005 I think O'Brien has played upfront quite abit for Livingston. I think Levein will look to use him as a striker to unlock defences with his pace and skill.
SilverFox Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Burton O'brien is quality! The SPL's Lampard in terms of scoring goals from the midfield
Steven Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Burton O'brien is quality! The SPL's Lampard in terms of scoring goals from the midfield 133759 Get him in.
Gené and Tonic Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 I'd love to see O'Brien here. But as Levein rightly states, a left back and a striker are the priorities.
Thracian Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 Burton O'brien is quality! The SPL's Lampard in terms of scoring goals from the midfield 133759 Tell you what. It ain't half refreshing to read the optimism-fueled threads as Levein adds bit by bit to his squad while discarding the dead wood. Far better than the mood we had when journeyman after journeyman started arriving on the welfare express under Taylor and Adams.
