artursteppe Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 This season has been a disaster, it has been embarrassing for many fans. Another season like this and many will give up. It now seems we are to rely on Pearson getting together a team good enough for promotion for next season. Let's be caustically honest, he has been a failure this time around, so far! Most fans point to the so called inconsistencies this season - poor against teams lower in the league, better against those above us. Rubbish, but then you can't expect most fans to understand what is actually wrong. However we might hope that Mr Pearson has some sort of idea. So far he has not demonstrated the remotest indication that he has any grasp of what is wrong with the team, and that is what should worry us all. Sven had no idea what was going in with Championship football, but if given time he may have learnt, obviously we will probably never find out. Pearson however has vast experience in the football league and yet seems to have no clue of what it is all about, of what is required to have the best chance of promotion. Yes we lost to 'poor' teams near the foot of the table, but we lost to teams above us as well. The truth is we were entirely consistent throughout the season, not as most people seem to think, including our management team that we were inconsistent, simply based on the fact that we could not put together any decent runs in the league at any stage throughout the whole season. We were consistent because we almost always failed to beat teams who were physically stronger in the midfield area, who would be hard and ruthless, who would be busy, committed, and 'in our faces'. These teams did not care how much our team was worth, they were up for the physical challenge and were aggressive in their approach when playing us. Our midfield is largely made up of a bunch of 'girls' who could not kick the skin off a rice pudding. I have been shouting that this has been our problem for about three years now, and we are no nearer putting it right under Pearson than we were under Sven. I am known as a major critic of Wellens, Gallagher, Dyer and King, however in truth my despair is when I see three or even four of these in the starting line up together. They are so easy to 'bully', any team who has a manager sharp enough to understand this has had an excellent chance of stopping us winning, and too many know it and have done it. Yes, there was Barnsley and Bristol City and Millwall and so on, but there was also West Ham and Reading who both have some skill in their teams, but also have physicality throughout their midfields. Pearson obviously has no clue, which was unfortunately proved with his selection of the midfield for the recent match at the 'new' lions den - Wellens, King and Gallagher together - Pillock! That was a match we had to win! If Pearson does not get a grip with the midfield he will be gone by Christmas. Marshall, Drinkwater and Danns can form the basis for the midfielders in next season's squad. Add some steel, vigour and enthusiasm to that and next season could be good. Last chance Nigel!
cc_star Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Yet another attack on Pearson Any reason for not putting it in the 1,067 suitable threads, from the number of threads you'd have thought the vocal minority was an over-whelming majority. Your last few paragraphs of criticism especially harping on about Pearson having no clue because he picked some players you don't like... takes no account of enforced changes through stupid suspension & injuries, which derailed our little revival and any chance of clawing back the deficit. Despite all that, and it being far from good enough, the table over the past 3 months has us sitting in 6th... and if we stretch it further back to the turn of the year it's 7th, so yes it's a poor situation and like I say far from what was expected, littered with sub-par performances but it's still better than it was, and with the right man in charge through the summer signing the right sort of players, not just 'names' to sell shirts in some far-flung duty free shop & we'll be far more competitive next time around. the reason I think that, is the NP has already strengthened the Gally/Wellens duo with Marshall & Drinkwater & he seems to have identified Cameron Stewart to strengthen the opposite wing to Marshall. Danns was a preferred NP player too until he let everyone down. My only concern was sticking by Beckford for so long, although it seems we're interested in signing another forward so there should be more serious competition next time around. I think more so than starting again, NP knows all the weak points and he is the man to fix them, but importantly this time in a sustainable fashion
Mack Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 I am not worried, however if things dont go to plan next season I will be very worried.
flowwolf Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Class post ! at last a bit of sanity among all the rose tinted glasses on here. Pearson is not capable of making a silk purse out of a sows ear. He has made it clear that there will be few signings in the close season. So why does he think the group of players he has now are going to do any better than this season ? it's quite simple they are not. Add to that they had the nerve to put up the price of tickets and it all makes for a very depressing future. I would dearly love to not be so negative but I can't for the life of me see this club getting anywhere near promotion with the present set up. Mediocre players and a mediocre manager = Mid table. End of. ps cc star exactly who's fault was the suspensions ? yes the very same players who you think are good enough for promotion. It's called self inflicted wounds better known as BEING UNPROFESSIONAL.
savillefoxes Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 I think he stuck with Beckford for so long CC on the off chance that our shite midfield would play the balls through that our striker's wanted.and not having to run 40yrds to get the ball.
Fox92 Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Give Pearson a summer to rebuild, instead of attacking him left, right and centre. He has only had January to buy and sell, which was never going to be enough time to sort out the unbalanced squad. But in January he identified we needed a winger, and got Marshall. Something Sven didn't do with all the money even though we all knew we needed a winger at the end of last season. He also brought in a Pearson-type centre half in Morgan, and Drinkwater, both of which have been good signings in my opinion. He rebuilt Leicester the first time around, he rebuilt Hull, and I am confident he will do it again. Half of you haven't given him the time required.
Reynard Bleu Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Next season may be interrupted if WW3 breaks out, I can see quite a few postponements at least.
flowwolf Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Next season may be interrupted if WW3 breaks out, I can see quite a few postponements at least. Well if that happens we can at least blame the war instead of Pearson.
cc_star Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Well if that happens we can at least blame the war instead of Pearson. by 'war' you mean Wellens of course?
MattyFromLE Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 I really wish people would just stop posting such absolute crap. What a waste of your time to sit there and write that. Please take your negativity elsewhere, because frankly, i'm absolutely ****ing sick of it.

Greg2607 Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Well the good news is that Pep Guardiola is not renewing his contract at Barca and as such, i would imagine the Thais have already secured his signature to replace good ol NP. I would imagine that he is the ONLY manager in world football (except MoN) that would please them. Especially given that an Ex england Manager and a previous good servant to the club haven't really done it for them.

I think more so than starting again, NP knows all the weak points and he is the man to fix them, but importantly this time in a sustainable fashion The only reason Danns picked up the suspension was because he was forced to play in a game for which he was clearly not fully fit. Managers of quality ensure their squads have enough depth to cope with the demands of such a long season. That's why Reading, Southampton and West Ham all added to their playing staff during January. By contrast, Pearson let a whole host of players leave, and then fell out with his captain. The only table that matters sees us in 10th place, and a defeat on Saturday could see us finish as low as 14th. That doesn't suggest much progress (if any) has been made since last season, especially as we were in 6th place at the start of December. The Pearson sceptics may seem a vocal minority now, but past experience (Levein, Kelly, Holloway, Sousa, Eriksson) shows that failings that at first are only seen by some are soon seen by all. I've seen very little in recent months to suggest that this manager is capable of correcting the clear deficiencies that exist within his current team. It's not a question of if another change of manager will come but when. Better to make the necessary changes in the summer, than to risk yet another failed promotion challenge and all the devastating consequences (financial and otherwise) that will flow from that.

ADK Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 I'm actually not worried in the slightest, we are playing better football now than at any time since we came down from the Premier League with good financial backing too.

Can you get any more sand in those nostrils of yours? Where was this quality football against Forest, Burnley or West Ham? Or in most of our recent away games?

Haydos Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Can you get any more sand in those nostrils of yours? Where was this quality football against Forest, Burnley or West Ham? "The only reason Danns picked up the suspension was because he was forced to play in a game for which he was clearly not fully fit." ...and then take the piss out of others.
Bettsj2 Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Can you get any more sand in those nostrils of yours? Where was this quality football against Forest, Burnley or West Ham? Or in most of our recent away games? In a massive bag. Pointless conversation. If you think that getting rid of Pearson is the answer then you are a modern type of football supporter. Consistency and long term goals have no place, you want instant success and nothing else. If it doesnt come then make a change. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that point of view as there are examples where this sort of thing has worked. I however am sick of all the changes and wouldnt mind having the same manager for at least 3 seasons in a row. There are more examples of success following stability than the former argument.

Credit to teams like Derby who have kept their manager depsite being average at times
