Weather Forecasting

A spur of the moment thread caused by another lame weather forecast, my job requires accurate weather forecasting and dry weather so after the weeks wet weather I was quite happy with the dry forecast for saturday, but no its raining heavily again, how many thousands of pounds are spent getting weather forecasts wrong?

They only predict. That's why I don't listen to what they say, because 50% of the time it is wrong.

Then again, it's the least of my worries.

I work outdoors & the weather is important in my job. I will have a quick look at the weather forecast on BBC Breakfast News & usually find it to be reasonably accurate to be fair. What I don't understand is when they tell you about the weather we have had today on the evening news......I know what the weather was like - I was there!!

The worst thing they can possibly say, is when they predict a heatwave weeks or months in advance. You can guarantee the summer is going to be a washout!!

When I want to know what the weather is doing I usually use one of these.......

All I know is that if I look out of the window and see the weather is fine by the time I've put my shoes on gone down to the shed got out and hooked up the lawn mower cut one strip of grass it will be raining that's why my lawn always looks like this

There is nothing worse than a bad forecast when you're painting outsides. You have to decide in the morning whether to go or not, so frustrating when the forecast is wrong.

To be fair, they do a pretty bloody good job. Obviously they can't be right all of the time, but they are predicting the future.

Thanks Laura Tobin

You'da thought after so many years and years of weather forecasting, pattern watching/tracking, computer programs, millions of people and experts, and billions of pounds at stake; we would have it down to a f'king T by now

The Met Office are thinking of providing some online courses in weather forecasting for the general public.

Go have a look and express an interest!

I get the arse with percentages.

If it's 100% or 0% chance of rain I'm happy, I understand that - but 60%?! What the fvck is going on out there if it'll be 60% at 4pm?

Fvcking percentages.
