Dan Posted 23 May 2012 Posted 23 May 2012 Calling Vassell a journeyman is a bit harsh - he's only had four clubs in his career! Tony Cottee once did that in one season and Trevor Benjamin probably managed it in one afternoon! Probably the wrong word but you get my gist, I simply cannot see his calibre of playing being the sort that will help us get promoted, he's not a terrible player but he hardly scores, he sets up hardly any (I'm aware he got one against Brighton but how many more) and ultimately he's on a down-slope and probably on about £10k a week. Would much rather see Vardy given a chance.
Guy Posted 23 May 2012 Posted 23 May 2012 Despite all the "no surprises there" comments being said on here, I thought they'd have offered Vassell a year's contract for his experience alone, especially as we have very little of it up front if either Nugent or Beckford (or both!) get crocked or suspended! Waghorn is getting that way, I know but Schlupp (despite his handful of games last season) and Vardy are going to be quite raw at this level up front so Vassell's release is a bit strange really. Darius looked quite useful when he camne on against Leeds and arguably changed the game around in the second half for our last day of the season win there. I don't suppose it helps that he was one of Sven's first signings though, from Pearson's perspective. Like Tunchev, he has not really had sufficient time to prove himself again following his injury. 32 is still no real age at this level either. ...Drogba was 34 and still "had it" for Chelsea last weekend!

Ive got the same concerns its all well and good buying players for the future but we also need some experience in the dressing room, every club that does well have that mix we have lost Oakley,Howard, Vassell, Berner and Tunch. More of a case put forward for Sir Emile

He must be older than Vassell or of the same age. Blackburn's loss was most defo. Reading's big gain!

More of a case put forward for Sir Emile If you look at the nucleus of players that's still left (see Babylon's post earlier), then you'll notice that by now, they'll all have gotten a pretty good impression of how tough the Championship really is. I do hope they've learned something from it and are able to draw their own conclusions and adapt their style of play for the upcoming campaign. I have faith. Still.
Izzet is God Posted 23 May 2012 Posted 23 May 2012 I would of like to have seen Vasell for one more year, but his wages were obviously a talking point...shame about Tunchev, injury has ruined another promising talented player. Hope he regains fitness, good luck to the fella.
Danno Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 I see Matt Oakley every day his daughter goes to the school next to mine I could ask about his situation if anyone would be vaguely interested

ta-fc Posted 26 May 2012 Posted 26 May 2012 Logan will never leave. EVER Is that youth team keeper Adam Smith due a run out? (I think that's his name). Will be interesting if he plays preseason? davieG Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 Howard to Pools http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18785024?
Fox92 Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 Pleased for Howard. Obviously returning up North and too a club he did well for 13 years ago. Always liked the man, maybe not as gifted as George Best or Johan Cruyff, but he always worked hard, as those lower league players do. Nice person to talk to meet as well. Best of luck, Stevie.
nuttytimmy Posted 15 July 2012 Posted 15 July 2012 BBC on Howard's career: Pools' target man Howard has racked up £2.670,000 of transfer fees in his professional career His best Pools tally was eight goals in 34 games, before Northampton spent £120,000 to take him to Sixfields With Luton Town in 2001-02 he scored 24 goals in 43 games - his best tally He has a track record of achieving promotion - helping Derby in the Premier League in 2007 with 19 goals, as well achieving the feat with Leicester, Luton and Northampton So, they reckon he's worth a little under three quid then!
