Milton Keynes Fox Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 Now i'm not asking for a scolding of Mk dons football club but i thought you should have a look at this: http://www.mkdons.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10420~2785639,00.html The next generation of Milton Keynes Dons fans remains the heart of the Football Club which is why Under-18s can buy a 2012/13 season ticket at stadiummk for just £24! That means you can watch 23 live games of football at MK Dons for just over £1 a match! Your season ticket could cost you the equivalent of three trips to the cinema. it costs me £145 at Leicester. Dons making a loss or Leicester making a massive profit?

HEGGSY Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 that aint bad. Not bad? Not bad!!! It's fvcking brilliant, but they're only doing it for the reason I said, if they had higher gates week in week out there is no way they'd offer an ST that cheap.
Fox92 Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 Brilliant price. Good idea to try and bring in fans, who may not have been interested before. Fair play, I've got nothing against MK Dons.
Lamby Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 They still won't get any higher attendances..its a souless bowl there
Mack Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 There is only a tiny handful of people who could give a toss for MK Dons. They could probably make tickets free and still not fill their stadium. It's the simple rules of supply and demand, we have a fan base MK Dons can only wet dream about. Having said that, IF they ever got into the Premier League a who heap of fair weather 'fans' would no doubt crawl out of the woodwork.
Webbo Posted 24 May 2012 Posted 24 May 2012 For that price you buy a season ticket and only go to 1 or 2 of the top games or buy 1 on the off chance that they draw 1 of the top 4 at home in 1 of the cups.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 It makes no odds if they're doing it to fill the ground, if the clubs a shitter that no one likes or if the stadium is a soul less bowl, that is ****ing brilliant value. People may have their opinions on MK Dons but there's no denying that's a quality showing.
Daggers Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 At some point people are going to have to get over MKD and remove the superior bug from their arse. It's a cracking little ground, it's a large catchment area, they are a good community club and they aren't going away. It's a cracking offer, well done MKD for doing something positive for fans - what a shame City can't do anything similar but choose to simply implement ways to rip off supporters.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 £24 is very very cheap, but £145 at Leicester is good value. Thats like £6 something a game, nothing really that.

Fox92 Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 Well I still think they're scum. Why? Milton Keynes never had a football club. Lots of clubs were offered to play at Milton Keynes, including Crystal Palace, Barnet, QPR etc, while Chartlon and Luton even considered the idea. But it was Wimbledon, with their new chairman, who decided to relocate. The history of Wimbledon is still credited to AFC Wimbledon, while MK Dons started a fresh. I will always support people who support their local team, and nobody cannot fault MK Dons for trying to attract local people in with good offers.
Voll Blau Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 Milton Keynes never had a football club because its townsfolk couldn't be arsed to support local non-league clubs. Simple as. The move (which, if you research it, was all part of a deal to put a supermarket on adjacent land) set a dangerous precedent that any town could in theory buy its way into the football league purely because there was a commercial "demand" for it from the populace.
Winchester Posted 27 May 2012 Posted 27 May 2012 Milton Keynes never had a football club. I will always support people who support their local team, and nobody cannot fault MK Dons for trying to attract local people in with good offers. Except Bletchley Town and later MK City FC. If the good folk of Milton Keynes wanted to support local football, they should have done so for the 30 years previous.
Winchester Posted 27 May 2012 Posted 27 May 2012 Having said that, I could just about tolerate Milton Keynes if they dropped the 'Dons' from their name. There's no connection between MK and Wimbledon; they weren't particularly interested in the club or its fans - all they really wanted was the league position. Don't see any point in being sentimental over a strictly business relationship.
Guest Bilo Posted 27 May 2012 Posted 27 May 2012 MK Dons should never have been allowed to come into being, but I blame the FA for that as much as Winkleman. They have now at least put rules in place that restrict the relocation of clubs and protect their individual identities to prevent such an event occurring again. Meanwhile, MK Dons are here to stay. That looks obvious. The thing is that this offer, while phenomenal value, does smack slightly of desperation. A quick glance at their crowds suggest the catchment area doesn't give a damn about MKDFC and they continue to support the Big Four. Perhaps this is a tacit admission that the experiment is not working and now football is to become little more than a cheap distraction on a Saturday. There's no way MK Dons would charge a 17 year old £1 a game if they could get away with charging more. That stadium, while one of the best quality outside the Premier League, will become a millstone around the club's neck with only 8000 people are coming through the turnstiles.
Fox92 Posted 27 May 2012 Posted 27 May 2012 Remember though, Wimbledon couldn't afford to renevate/expand Plough Lane, hence the ground share with Crystal Palace. Ron Noades explored about the idea of moving to Milton Keynes in 1979. Winkleman suggested the idea of a football league ground in Milton Keynes, which was offered to loads of clubs, which I stated before. Wimbledon didn't want it initially, until their new chairman, Charles Koppel, went for deeper talks.

Although they probably needed to find a new home, and couldn't do much with the Plough Lane site, a move to mk does seem slightly cynical though. There must have been some place to build between Wimbledon and Milton Keynes.
