Guest shearfox Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Epic game - And I don't use the word epic very often, feel it is a very over used word, thanks to cringeworthy, annoying insurance advert. Great, showed spirit, class and proved something. Gotta drop Milner and start Walcott, for the first time in many years I am quite proud of the English national team. However I am always happy to admit being proved wrong and I slagged Lescott off pre-match Monday - He scored, I slagged Carroll off yesterday - He scored, Milner.... Good night too, head hurts a little. I'm also proud of the England team, for the first time in a long time we actually look like a team rather than a group of individuals. The heart we shown to come back was fantastic, England teams of the past may have completely collapsed after going 2-1 down. Hodgson can be proud of what he has achieved, with the injuries and no Rooney we have done much better than what I thought we would do.
Tielemans63 Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 To add to that, as much as I think he's enormously over-hyped and will never be world class, Andy Carroll's header yesterday was absolutely superb. Good cross, yes, but great finish also. I think he could end up being a bit like Peter Crouch - average in the PL were defenders can generally deal with the aerial threat - yet pretty prolific at international level where defences can't deal with crosses etc. I slagged him too but I thought he played really well last night.
Babylon Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 £5 on Carroll to score first... thank you very much Andy.
Leicfox Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Showed heart to fight back when going 2-1 down from sloppy marking of set pieces (We need to work on that) but in the end we could and should of had 5. Loved the high fives all round when Welbeck came off as it shows good team spirit and if Roy and his staff (I think he's made good coaching appointments) can continue to try and build a sort of tight-knit club togetherness with this squad which has been lacking probably since the world cup squad of 1990 then I can only see bright things for England maybe not in this tournament but definitely in the future.
Corky Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 On another note, I think Gerrard has probably made the two best crosses I've seen in this tournament so far, for England's first 2 goals of the campaign. With pace and dip allowing a player to attack the ball. Exactly what players want.
MooseBreath Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Welbeck definitely meant it. If that goal was scored by spain, with the way we sprung out from the back with concise passes, it would be being talked about in terms of goal of the tournament. Roy getting a lot of praise for bringing on Walcott, i'm more inclined to question why he didn't start him, hopefully he will against Ukraine. Theo, welbeck, Rooney and young/ox as an attacking four with gerrard just behind... Suddenly we look quite dangerous. Milner and downing, not so.
Leicfox Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Disagree about dropping Milner. I think he performs a valuable service. He's dependable in possession, works hard to cover Glen Johnson when he comes forward and has a decent cross. Walcott's pace is way more a threat if he's fresh and the game gets stretched, much like it did yesterday. I'm not his biggest fan but agree with you on this but Milner it seems will be the player in this tournament that the fans will witch hunt and blame for anything that goes wrong. We play as a team and Milner is a team player who as you say lets Johnson get forward as he likes to do without us becoming stretched at the back.
AyewJoking Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 to all those hailing hodgson as a genius....................bringing on Walcott was hardly genius was it. Walcott turned the game but it doesnt take a genius to bring on a fast winger when you are losing.

Walcott turned the game but it doesnt take a genius to bring on a fast winger when you are losing. Starting Carroll and Welbeck who both scored was a pretty good move. He brought on Walcott over The Ox too, despite the weird fascination everyone has about how much better Chamberlain is the Walcott. Every decision he made he got right. Harsh not to give him any credit. Bear in mind the last time we were losing in a major championships Capello brought Heskey on...

What's wrong with praising him?
BlueSi13 Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 Amazing result for us, first competitive win against the Swedes who will always be a good football side, and for us to actually fight back was a treat! Was in Manchester for it and the atmosphere was amazing, was also humorous to laugh at an Irish fellow who celebrated like he'd just won Euromillions after Sweden took the lead! The game against the Ukraine will still be a tough prospect but whatever happens i honestly believe England have performed far better than most people hoped. If we make it to the quarter's i think Mr Hodgson will have done an excellent job, i can just hope we aren't humiliated if we make it that far ala Germany 2010. Though as a side note i really can't see how Milner can be included in the next game, and Young was very disappointing once again, its just not happening for him this summer.
