Aus Fox Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Hart 6 Johnson 4 Terry 5 Lesscott 6 Cole 6 Young (I saw his name in the line up, can anyone confirm he actually played?) Gerrard 8 Parker 7 Milner 6 Carroll 9 Wellbeck 7 Walcott 8 Overall more positives than negatives, everyone says this is technically not the best England squad we have had but the technically better squads had far less heart and passion; and would have given up 2-1 down. We fought back. Do not write us off yet. Come on England
Finnegan Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 It's the same people who keep telling us we have to accept that we're not good enough who seem to be moaning that we're not playing like Brazil. You don't have to play like Brazil to manage to be both pretty sturdy at the back and to create chances. The like of Russia and Denmark have managed to do reasonably well for themselves despite not having a team full of super stars. England have been very average. That's not to say they shouldn't be proud, they're a very weak group of players compared to your usual norm and they've worked genuinely quite hard where often your sides are a little lazy and underwhelming. There's definite positives but if you can't see why people would still have criticisms then you're being stupidly naive.
AyewJoking Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 England were very very lucky. If we dont have any good luck for the rest of the tournament I wont complain because we used it all tonight.

How anyone can say all our players are shit and then complain that we're not playing breath taking football is moaning for the sake of moaning.

ScouseFox Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Big Andy Carroll is in. He'll absolutely boss it tonight. 2-0 with him scoring at least one. Yeah. Sweeeet Carroll 9, bom bom bommmm! Apart from my clear overestimation of our defence (I thought they'd mark their massive centre half), that was fantastic. Welbeck's finish was pure, pure class, Walcott bossed it when he came on. At half time I said it'd be dangerous to see out 1-0 and we needed more direct players with pace (Theo/Ox), and comes Theo and we take control. Lovely stuff.
Webbo Posted 15 June 2012 Author Posted 15 June 2012 Johnson is giving it his all but hes such a liability He was the stand out defender tonight.
cambridgefox Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 He was the stand out defender tonight. Agreed, but hey what do we know,I'm getting homesick for general chat.
Vacamion Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 He was the stand out defender tonight. Despite myself and despite his previous tounament performances, well played Mr Johnson. Excellent performance - massive performance and great speed, which made up for any lack of anticipation or poor original positioning. Fuck the scores of sudden "Sweden" fans (with West of Scotland Accents) who arrived in the pub just off Sauchiehall Street tonight while I was waiting for my missus before the game.
Salieri Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 He was the stand out defender tonight. Yep, thought he was pretty solid defensively and offered plenty going forward too, very good display. Think we have two excellent full backs in him and Cole.
ADK Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 He was the stand out defender tonight. Didn't he score an own goal? Didn't think the defense had a good game to be honest. I find him a liability, would prefer we had someone more reliable.

lavrentis Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Better to win like that IMO, love watching England in tourneys sometimes, just hope we finish top to avoid Spain
Jaspa Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Yeah, Johnson was pretty solid; im still worried about his consistency from time to time tho What a game Hope Sweden do them fans proud and damage France Rooney back now, hahaaaaa

How anyone can say all our players are shit and then complain that we're not playing breath taking football is moaning for the sake of moaning. Three goals against a very poor side, you never looked much like scoring against France except from a set piece. I get where you're coming from and I think you're right to question people who are being overly negative but I don't think you should be trying to dismiss everyone who has concerns to question. You've still got a long way to go. You were pretty terrible at the back today besides the odd saving tackle from Johnson and as good as Andy Carroll's goal was you didn't really look like doing much else until Walcott came on.
ScouseFox Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Saying we weren't that good is fair enough, but who has been? Germany have been very efficient in both their games, but haven't set the world alight. Spain were poor vs Italy and lucky that Ireland were so shite they could dominate. Holland have been woeful defensively and have been beaten twice and are struggling to even get out their group. France drew with us! Portugal look woeful defensively, and Ronaldo is having a mare. I'd say, from a biased view, on what's been shown so far we're not that far behind everyone else. On potential, if everyone plays their best, even I admit we're still pretty fúcked. I like the look of us though, and I've not thought that for about 8 years at least.
ADK Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 I really can't see us beating Spain, i think we need to finish top.
Anorak Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Be nice to see Rooney and Welbeck together in the next game. Walcott to start? Young's been poor so far.
AyewJoking Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 I really can't see us beating Spain, i think we need to finish top. I think we'd park the bus if we get to the knock out stages which wouldnt be a bad thing unless we take the lead
marko Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 I really can't see us beating Spain, i think we need to finish top. We beat them 1-0 around 7/8 months ago, so it's not impossible. They're not invincible and Italy gave them more than a run for their money.
