From the Joe Meek stable big  anti-establishment producer/director in the 60s

John Leyton also a bit of an actor starred in The Great Escape

I was thinking about this guy earlier. I went to see the Hollies in Bournemouth about 1963. He was on the bill and was booed off the stage. I felt quite sorry for him although, he was crap.

First time I've heard that. Good stuff.

Funny to hear the opening couplet, though. Billy Bragg clearly ripped it off (or "paid tribute to it") in "A New England". Not the rest of the song - similar mood/theme, but completely different music and lyrics - just that opening couplet:

"I was 21 years when I wrote this song; I'm 22 now but I won't be for long" lol

Knew (and liked) Wichita Lineman, of course, but didn't know "Phoenix" by Glen Campbell...only by Nick Cave.

Would take ears/brain some time to adjust to the original after Cave's version - a stunning cover from a great album of covers of old classic songs.
