so, basically oz , you just consider yourself as a torch bearer for a better/ideal world ?

good luck  even though i don't hold out much hope :(

Why not surely we should all consider ourselves torch bearers for a better world? Unless you consider this one to be perfect.

Be the change you want to see in this world.

Unfortunately it seems like I want the world to change into a lazy womanising drunk.

It is a fave quote, and it does help me continue with what I believe to be right, even though I know all the good I try to do can be cancelled out by one idiot.

What you didn't see was the farmer saying, within earshot of your porcine hero there, 'so much for curried goat tonight, looks like it's pork chops'.

As for your cat, do you feed it wet cat food with meaty chunks, the dry stuff, whilst not vegetarian it isn't actual meat, or do not feed it vegetarian cat food?

If it is the wet stuff, with juicy meaty chunks, do you ever get meat cravings and it is the only meat in the house, and you just think one bite won't hurt...

lol clever fookers are pigs

i suppose so in a way , but i don't think humans will ever see life as just a matter of living life for survival . they will always want the "pleasure" and sometimes that may involve the life of animals taking second place to this.

Oh another question for everyone... what meat wont you eat.. and why?

rotten meat , because it would probably give me the squits and that's very unpleasant.for all concerned in the zing household

I would genuinely eat any meat we are able to digest, and I include dog in that, as long as it was not a pet.

To me meat is nothing more than fuel, it doesn't matter what kind of fuel it is as long as it keeps me alive. It is not for pleasure I eat meat, I eat it to keep me going, I choose bacon over chicken for flavour, but I choose chicken over bacon for health reasons, but ultimately both do the job of providing me with energy and nutrients quickly.

The pleasure comes from how I cook it and prepare it.

I've already eaten dog penis and testicles so I guess I'd be up for pretty much anything

Had Kangaroo's bollocks, I'd love to try Dog, What's it's like?

Just forward to about 3:30 to see the absolute cruelty these poor chickens go through. Oh good lord!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRuMz-zjY5k

What a jolly nice, sanitised video.

While I'm sure those sheds are better than the norm, there's no mention of how they get the chickens to grow to full size in 7 weeks. In fact, they don't even show the fully grown chickens. They also don't show the transportation and slaughter. This might be why:

When the trucks arrive at the slaughterhouse, chickens are pulled from the crates and shackled upside down by their feet into metal stirrups on an overhead conveyor.. The conveyor carries them into the killing room where their heads pass through an electrified water bath intended to stun them. As they pass along further, an automatic knife cuts their throat, and then they proceed into a scalding tank to loosen their feathers before plucking.

Unfortunately things do not always run smoothly. Some birds lift their heads and miss the electrified water bath and they are therefore still fully conscious when they reach the automatic knife. Some birds may also miss the knife and are then lowered into the 50 degree scalding tank while still alive.

Don't want to upset the kiddies now do we.

haha what i posted may well be nice and cuddly-fied for the kiddies, but at the same time, what you post may also be hugely over the top, just to prove your point. its a two way street. i know that there are terrible practices going on in some places, and i do not condone that at all, im opposed to it, but at the same time, there are places where procedures will be followed and animals will be killed in as humane way as possible. can you accept that?

Why is it hugely over the top? What I posted is a description of the most common method of slaughtering chickens. The fact that it can and does go wrong, means they're still not being killed in as humane way as possible.

The farmer in that video seemed very pleased with herself. It would have been interesting to ask her how she grows chickens to full size in 7 weeks, and if they have all manner of health problems as a result. It's probably why the BBC chose not to show them and stuck with the cute little chicks.

Killed - Humanely ?

Once again, this is where the issue is for me, unless its for the creatures benefit, eg alleviate pain and suffering etc... then... THERE IS NO WAY TO KILL HUMANELY.

Would you be happy for a member of your family to be "killed humanely?"

What ozfox has put, is accurate and not over the top, in fact, if anything, it doesnt accurately convey the true horrors of animal torture and torment that we generally close our eyes to in order to enjoy our humanely killed burgers.

Any evidence to prove its accuracy? I see a lot of hearsay and sensationalism in this thread but personally I'm more a fan of cold hard facts backed up with empirical evidence.

Hearsay and sensationalism? Like saying you've eaten a dog's penis?

I don't think even the meat industry would deny there's a few flaws in their slaughter process

I did try a bit of dog penis while in China. Nothing sensationalist about that I'm afraid.

This sounds like the old joke about two blokes watching a dog lick his penis and one saying, "i wish i could do that " with the reply being, "give him a biscuit and perhaps he'll let you" .

Responsibly farmed pooch was it? Or chopped up in the street like these? You can keep your Chinese dog meat thanks.
