ozleicester Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Ok, just in case anyone would like to continue the discussion i thought it best to open a new topic rather than hijack others. Im happy to keep discussing, or ill just pop in the occasional interesting video for anyone who is interested. Here's a nice, intelligent, rational and well put starting point... Oh and he refers to "Earthlings" in the speech, It is 90 minutes long and horrendously graphic, but if you want to know where im coming from.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky4RGYva90E&feature=related

Captain... Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I will ask my question again from the grind my gears thread. Would you support a mass cull of cattle and other tasty animals in exchange for the world going veggie?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I will ask my question again from the grind my gears thread. Would you support a mass cull of cattle and other tasty animals in exchange for the world going veggie? This is true. If the world went veggie millions of animals breed purely for meat would either be slaughtered or left to starve. Farmer's are not the altruistic "guardians of the countryside" that they like to portray (at least, not most of them.)
Zingari Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Sometimes I think we must just accept that we are a part of nature, and that nature is red in tooth and claw. I understand all the arguments for vegetarianism etc, but I think that should just be left to the conscience of the individual. If someone wants to live as a veggie , that’s fine by me and I don’t mind anyone trying to persuade me to do it . But in the end the decision should be mine. I do think that animal welfare in farms etc should by a high priority, and they should be treated with as much care as possible How would populations such as Inuit / Eskimo continue to live in a totally veggie world ?

Frozen peas?
Zingari Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Frozen peas? Ah yes , they could just pop into Iceland and stock up on veggie stuff .
Guest Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Ah yes , they could just pop into Iceland and stock up on veggie stuff . No, I think he was commenting on the difficulty of urinating for a veggie eskimo.

He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself." - George Orwell, "FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD"
Zingari Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 No, I think he was commenting on the difficulty of urinating for a veggie eskimo. ahh I see . life would be pretty unpleasant in those tiny igloos if they were made to eat lots of beans and pulses

I lay eggs on a regular basis (everyone loves the smell of their own). Let's not get onto milk.

Charl91 Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I'm all for Animal rights. However, that's not the same as being a veggie. I don't mind eating animals as long as they were treated fairly during their life-time.
Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Animals should be slaughtered in a humane way that doesn't cause suffering or as little as possible but that's about as far I go for animal rights. The human race hasn't worked it way towards the top of the food chain to sit there eating a salad, those teeth as the back of your mouth haven't come about for you to eat peas. I have no idea how anyone can even be a vegetarian, meat is the finest food on the planet. What about people who can't afford not to kill animals for food?

Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 That's been over-cooked. For shame, for shame. Spot on. This is how every steak should be eaten.
Rincewind Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I've just had four chicken portions and a jacket potatoe. It was a pack of reduced coated wings and legs from sainsburys. £1.99. Got four more for later or tomorrow. Only have a mini oven but it did the job when wrapped in tin foil.
lavrentis Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Funny that people are showing Oz pics of meat as if he doesn't know what meat looks like ?
Houdini Logic Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I'm vegetarian but put simply it's because I feel I can live a healthy life without eating meat. So I don't. Not much more to it than that
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 Funny that people are showing Oz pics of meat as if he doesn't know what meat looks like ? I think you missed the point mate
