samstown92 Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I do apologise, 9 goals in 39 appearances.. Sounds worse than it is, he played 10 or 20 minutes in a lot of games and he had a bad time under Sven. His first league goal came when he played his first full 90 minutes! also he got FA cup top goal scorer or joint top, he basically got us to the quarter finals single handedly and he got the assist for Nugents winner against Norwich
MooseBreath Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 His stats from last season don't exactly show him in a very good light, but last season was a bit of a mess for almost everyone. I feared he might go the way of Mills and do something to annoy Pearson and that would be that. But actually he seemed to react quite positively to NP's arrival and his effort levels seemed to increase. Despite that, there has always been a lingering feeling that NP doesn't seem to like/rate him. We can only speculate as to why, but I think Jermaine has a bit of personality and willingness to stand up for himself and Pearson only seems to want yes men. I think for Beckford to be a success it needs to be a two-way process. He needs to get his head down, and Pearson needs to wisen up a bit and realise he's here to win games and not to just make his life as easy as possible by getting rid of anyone who is difficult to manage. Pearson desperately needs to learn to effectively man-manage these types of players or he'll never get any higher than he is now, infact if he fails here he can probably look forward to a career in the lower leagues. If they can both produce a bit of form off the pitch, he has the potential to be the top goalscorer in the division.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 If he can get better service than he did last season, then he will hit the goals., but we need a high quality left winger, to put the crosses over.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Rubbish. Other people have said this and I really can't recollect Beckford not starting many games. I don't have the stats to hand so can't quantify this. What I think IS true is that Pearson subbed him off on quite a few matches, basically because he was not playing anywhere near well enough OR he was not fitting into the system Pearson was playing. One or the other.
Guest MattP Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 If he is on the wage is supposdly on then get rid of him, far too much.
Guest ttfn Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 This is why he gets so much abuse, he's like Heskey for England, people dont see what he does for the team sometimes This is just so wrong. Beckford's work for the team is completely non-existent in comparison to Heskey's. Why even make that comparison? He makes a lot of off the ball runs in to spaces where nobody can realistically play an accurate pass (40/50/60 yards away from the man on the ball). If we had Xabi Alonso, fine. But we don't. Heskey would occupy 2 or 3 defenders at a time, hold the ball up and make intelligent runs into the channels ahead of the ball rather than runs into space diagonally opposite.
Guest ttfn Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 All he needs is the fans behind him 100% 100% of the time. Unfortunately, being at Leicester he won't get that. Then we wonder why we have so many players that never prosper with us. Vicious circle. That is not "all he needs". The (astonishingly supportive) crowd aren't responsible for the fact that he can trap it further than I can kick it.

I have to agree with you. Heskey is now past his best but in his heyday the two players are as different as chalk and cheese. Beckford is the more clinical finisher, no doubt. But to suggest that Beckford is similar to Heskey in terms of most other aspects of the game is verging on the ridiculous IMO.

I wasn't making any sort of judgement, was just stating the stats. You can judge for yourself whether you consider them 'bad' or not.
Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 It isn't a bad return imo, we have other players that can score goals as well. Our main problem last season was not creating enough chances and defending as a team, pressing the oppostion is something we found difficult, if we could repeat the Southampton away performance 46 times we are on to a winner.
Mark_w Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 It isn't a bad return imo, we have other players that can score goals as well. Our main problem last season was not creating enough chances Finding a strikeforce that works will go a decent way to fixing that at the very least. Beckford/Nugent just didn't work very well at all, I don't know if they were too similar or what but I never felt like that strikeforce was going to ever be good enough to get us promotion.
Collymore Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Forget nugent, vardy and waggy, it's beckford who's the one capable of getting us promoted next season. Like the sun rises everyday - Nugent will get around 15 goals, Vardy 12 and Waghorn 6. But beckford though??? He's like a sunrise on another planet (which is rotating erratically around an unstable star) Keep him at all costs.

Schlupp Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Those poll results are really ****ed,Beckford is the most greedy egomantic I've ever seen put on the shirt.Get him da fudge out.
dannythefox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 What a shit poll Beckford is none of them 3 he's a great player at this level but he's not the sort of player Pearson would buy therefore if someone comes in with a good offer he will be sold we've brought in two strikers.

The poll was asking the Foxes Talk fans their opinion on Beckford, not Pearsons. How do you know what Pearsons opinion on him is. Unless you want to start a 'what are people's opinion on Pearson's opinion of Beckford'? Give it a go...
Corky Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Those poll results are really ****ed,Beckford is the most greedy egomantic I've ever seen put on the shirt.Get him da fudge out. So why do we keep hearing that he's great in and around the club? Several players have said what a good person he is.

When he's on the pitch he rarely passes ****s up lots of chances,Alot of Everton fans warned us when he arrived but this just seems like another DJ Campbell to me.
marty78 Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I voted No, but he shouldn't be in the starting 11. As someone else stated already, I believe he responded quite well to Pearson and for that reason deserves a second chance at a first impression, so to speak. I hate writing players off too early, as I do managers, and sometimes sticking by someone can inspire them. I hope Pearson can encourage and educate the bloke to get that bit more out of him. I have heard people say he is a confidence player and Pearson sticking with him and believing in him might give that confidence and desire to make a real success of his Leicester career. Hopefully the arrival of Vardy and Futacs will also get more out of Beckford and Nugent, whose form dipped in the second part of the season. The competition for places can only be a good thing and then if any of the front men are struggling for form there is more opportunity to leave them out. I think last season Pearson had little choice but to keep going with Nugent/Beckford given the lack of decent alternatives. All that being said, like every striker at the club, he should have to earn the right to start regularly by performing when he does. I think with the options we now have and our ambitions to reach the Premier League it is less of gamble to keep him than it is to allow him to sign for a Championship rival.
