Corky Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 When he's on the pitch he rarely passes ****s up lots of chances,Alot of Everton fans warned us when he arrived but this just seems like another DJ Campbell to me. He's gone from being unable to keep control of the ball to rarely passing in two posts.
Babylon Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Forget nugent, vardy and waggy, it's beckford who's the one capable of getting us promoted next season. Like the sun rises everyday - Nugent will get around 15 goals, Vardy 12 and Waghorn 6. But beckford though??? He's like a sunrise on another planet (which is rotating erratically around an unstable star) Keep him at all costs. And we are basing this on what? He's done nothing above league one to prove he could ever do it here, maybe he will, maybe he won't. But I just don't understand that optimism in him. I hope you are correct though.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I voted No, but he shouldn't be in the starting 11. As someone else stated already, I believe he responded quite well to Pearson and for that reason deserves a second chance at a first impression, so to speak. I hate writing players off too early, as I do managers, and sometimes sticking by someone can inspire them. I hope Pearson can encourage and educate the bloke to get that bit more out of him. I have heard people say he is a confidence player and Pearson sticking with him and believing in him might give that confidence and desire to make a real success of his Leicester career. Hopefully the arrival of Vardy and Futacs will also get more out of Beckford and Nugent, whose form dipped in the second part of the season. The competition for places can only be a good thing and then if any of the front men are struggling for form there is more opportunity to leave them out. I think last season Pearson had little choice but to keep going with Nugent/Beckford given the lack of decent alternatives. All that being said, like every striker at the club, he should have to earn the right to start regularly by performing when he does. I think with the options we now have and our ambitions to reach the Premier League it is less of gamble to keep him than it is to allow him to sign for a Championship rival. Great post... I agree that competition for places is really important. Can't argue with any of this at all. I think Pearson is slowly shaping the squad very nicely.
jock2612 Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 So it's the fans fault he has such a poor first touch? Yes !
Mark_w Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Negative reaction from the fans doesn't help any player, but I'm not sure Beckford got that much of a negative response from the fans. Certainly it was a hell of a lot worse for Gallagher and he had a much better strike rate last season, from midfield. Yet it's still ok when people slate him.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 So it's the fans fault he has such a poor first touch? I really do wonder where people are coming from in thinking that the fans have some sort of ability to drive players out of a club. Maybe this happens on rare occassions, but this accusation was even suggested as a reason why Sharpe chose the Saints over Leicester... Even before he came? As I said to you yesterday... Let's take Wellens as an example, the shite he got on here last season was at times vindictive but he's still at the club. So is Gally, so is King etc... I don't really think many of the players are majorly bothered about what gets posted on message forums. I think they probably suffer ill feeling more when a crowd turns against them. But, from what I've seen, most people on here and at the King Power have some sort of bizarre reverence towards Beckford. I don't think he's hated at all, exactly the opposite from what I've seen. In my opinion, with him especially, the bulk of the City fans are proving to be a very patient lot.
Schlupp Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 He's gone from being unable to keep control of the ball to rarely passing in two posts. Where the **** did I say that he couldn't control the ball?
Schlupp Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 You didn't, read the post above your previous one. Oh sorry,I thought you meant me cause you was quoting my post.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I support every player when they pull on our shirt, JB has undoubted strengths, however based on last season I personally do not think he delivered enough in skill, effort and application/finishing. Personally feel he is a square peg in a round hole it saddens me to say! i would genuinely love to be wrong.
PAULCFC Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 His performance at West Ham stuck with me from last season.....i'd rather get rid if the right offer came along and his reported wages are correct.
seenitall Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I think Beckford's biggest crime was being signed by our previous manager and then underperformimg early on. A good start can get you worshipped even when your form dips ( Nugent) and a poor start and a negative build up can take months if not years to turn around. He played in front of the poorest midfield we have had for many years last season and his body language sometimes lets him down. So in the end it is his goalscoring record that will have to speak for him and he has work to do. Reckon he can do it but would expect him to take plenty of shit on here before he becomes respected. He suffers a bit from the same sort of reaction Yakubu got on the message boards and look how crap he turned out to be too.

Given the chance this year i know he will score the goals!
Mack Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 There is a Beckford saga? He' not a traditional run himself into the ground Leicester type striker granted, but has a natural aptitude for finding the goal, and I'd wager he'll get a good few this coming season. Leave him alone.
Guest ttfn Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He suffers a bit from the same sort of reaction Yakubu got on the message boards and look how crap he turned out to be too. Beckford is nothing like Yakubu. Yakubu had a good first touch and held the ball well with his back to goal. He scored 11 times in 21 games, including one of the finest individual goals scored by a City player in the last 10 years. Beckford has an awful first touch and can't hold the ball up for toffee. Beckford scored 9 goals in 39 games. Neither has a great work rate (which I think is what you're getting at) but the similarities end there. Yakubu was a centre forward proven beyond any doubt at Premier League level playing in the Championship. Beckford is a centre forward proven beyond any doubt at League One level playing in the Championship.
LeicesterAreGoingUp Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 keep beckford, he'll score a hatfull next year ....... i can feel it :pearson: :pearson:

Reynard Bleu Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He aint kicked a fecking ball yet this season. Last season was a dogs breakfast because of the mess we got ourselves in to with managers, players, poor performances and too much hype.. This season Pearson has had time to prepare people and processes, he is adding what he thinks are the right people to the sqaud. I want to see how it all performs before I think about calling for off-loads. I think some people just have a downer on Beckford and unless he gets 10 goals in the first 5 matched they still poke at him.
MrSpaM Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I dont hate Beckford, actually think he's a good player, but i'd like to see Nugent and Vardy starting up front for us tbh
Happy Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Futacs should be upfront for every game, whether that is in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.
Corky Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Alright then. Did Jermaine score for Everton? Scored 8 in 34 league appearances.
marty78 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Futacs should be upfront for every game, whether that is in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. What has he done to deserve that?
