Happy Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 What has he done to deserve that? The only reason why I say this is not because of the amount of goals he will score more so to do with what he will bring to the team i.e hold up play for the other strikers Nugent/Beckford to latch on to through balls and get the goals, last season we couldn't play 4-3-3 to much effect due to Howard's ineffectiveness.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 No way should Futacs just walk straight into the team. This is as daft as saying 'no way should Beckford be dropped'. How do you know? You seem like a bloke who puts your trust in successive managers. If Pearson feels that Futacs should 'walk straight into the team' then he'll put him in. What are you basing this glib comment on? Because he's the new kid on the block? I'm sure Pearson will play what he thinks is his best forward line up and it remains to be seen.

What if he's crap for the next few friendlies? It's too early to say that he should be virtually first name on the team sheet.

You don't know whether that will be Futacs or whomever.
Corky Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I'd prefer to err on the side of caution, especially with a new player. Just feel that a player comes in, has a good debut and all of a sudden our problems are answered whilst slating the player whose place he'd taken seems to be the way supporters work.

I reckon Futacs will make a great impact sub, but time will tell.

Look at the results of this poll.... They demonstrate clearly the massive support Beckford has by the majority of the people who voted. Most people really rate him and want him in the starting 11. I think you're talking nonsense.

Look at Marshall/Gallagher- Marshall, who is a decent player no doubt, has a very positive reputation in his short time with us, whilst Gallagher is seen as a liability and a luxury, though his stats are pretty impressive. I will admit I'm not convinced by Futacs, but I will give him a chance and I hope he does well and contributes a lot. I wasn't too sure about Morgan but he looks a good signing, At the moment I'm not sure about Futacs being a first choice, maybe in time he'll change my view
Happy Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 People are overlooking Futacs don't see the whole picture imo, Nugent and Beckford cannot play together to much avail they have their moments and are both equally capable of scoring 15 goals each but when they play together I feel it is sort of hinderance, both Nugent and Beckford throughout their careers have benefited from playing with a target man, now we have one in Futacs we might as well use him to partner either striker and the results will flourish.
marty78 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I hope the strikers slots are pretty open at the start so they all get a fair chance. If someone stands out then they will automatically become first choice because of their form. I would love any of them to start the first match, play fantastically and then play every game as the star man. If I had to pick a first choice striker now it would have to be Nugent as he has already played well for the club and we know he is happy to work hard. Not everyone plays with a big man as their "plan A" so Futacs being our only target man should not, on its own, make him first choice. If he plays really well then fair enough.
Babylon Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Alright then. Did Jermaine score for Everton? How many did Yakubu score for an even shitter Blackburn last year? The comparison between Yakubu and Beckford is as stupid as people saying "why do fans always like players who are like Hume and Dickov over Beckford". Because both those players outscored Beckford in this league, so did Waghorn who was an even more bit part player than Beckford was this year. He may or may not be brilliant, but he's done nothing above league one to warrant the faith people are placing in him. Considering you use that one yourself about Pearson I would think you can see that. I hope bangs in 30 goals, but the team and especially himself individually will have to improve a lot for it to happen.

I think one of the problems this pre season is that many people seem to be suggesting that players should or shouldn't start in the first team based on real little knowledge of the players. Who has genuinely seen enough of Futacs, DeLaet, Matty James and Vardy to be able to talk about them with any authority? And pre season friendlies against vastly inferior opposition really don't count. We will just have to go with the formation and players the manager picks. If he chooses a more direct football and picks Futacs then so be it.

As I said before, the faith that people are putting in Beckford is actually quite admirable. City fans are meant to be a fickle lot aren't we? When it comes to Jermaine, I don't think this could be further from the truth actually. However, like you I think, I still have that sneaky suspicion that if we somehow get Beckford firing, he could make all the difference. And I agree completely. For this to happen it will take a big step up on both the part of the team and the player to make this a reality. I believe that a Futacs/Beckford partnership may reap huge dividends. Becks historically has played his best with a bloke up front who can shield the ball and put him in on goal. However, Nugent was my favourite player last season and I think it's going to be difficult to drop him.
Captain... Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I think/hope all of our striking options have started with a clean sheet this pre season, and will be picked based on how they perform in training and in the friendlies and are not picked based on reputation or price tag. It may turn out that Futacs and Vardy is our best pairing up front, and Beckford and Nugent will have to make do with a place on the bench, even though I imagine Beckford's wages will be that of Vardy and Futacs combined, likewise Nugent. None of us here have seen enough of the new boys to judge, and last season is by no way an accurate way to judge Nugent and Beckford, all I know is we have options, exciting options and I hope we make the most of them.
lee(lcfc) Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 he needs decent balls to him and he rarely got them last season, and i think hes more of a poacher so him and futacs could be a good partnership.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 i will cheer Jermaine on all the way whilst he puts on our City shirt, but im still not convinced if im honest

Bluetintedspecs Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Thats sitting on the fence at its best! Given the chance this year i know he will score the goals! How was I sitting on the fence? I stated that imo he was disappointing at best last season and I hope if he stays he comes good.If you want me to elaborate further I will...... you do NOT know he will score goals you hope or feel! i do not think he is anything special and the excuses of poor team around him do not hold weight with me. A quality striker will show more than the glimpses JB did for us ...example Billy Sharpe when at v poor Doncaster Rovers side.I do re-iterate though every player that pulls on our shirt I will fully support, never ever boo!
