JonnyBoy Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 on his day he is the cut above the rest. people who think otherwise....Sit down. This season he will prove his worth, i am sure of it.
Leicester_Numan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Couldn't vote, wasn't the right option. Beckford is a goalscorer and should be played as one. With the right partner doing the donkey work up front (Futacs), all he has to concentrate on is being in the right place at the right time and could be lethal. Playing him alongside another goalscorer just doesn't work unless they're allowed to run at a defence, such as a counterattack. Faced with a packed defence and forced to turn his back to goal and play a target mans role, a goalscorer is generally useless. Keep him if we're intending to play him alongside Futacs
JonnyBoy Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Get rid ,not good enough he isn't a team player and the way nugent and vardy worked against hinckley I would defo start them two instead of nuge and becks !beckfords positioning was always poor last season and he was never willing to work for the ball !! Waist of money in my mind Are you high? You cant analyse Vardy and Nugent's partnership when playing Hinckley United. I think I would link up well with Nugent/Vardy against them. No disrespect but they're hardly championship level. Beckford also looked very sharp in the training session at the king power.
Haydos Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Don't like any of the answers and I have a feeling you are very aware of the options you gave. I (like a fair few others I suspect) don't think he's great but I do think we should keep hold of him and I do think he should be given this season. If it's disappointing then I'll be happy to say goodbye.
sphericalfox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I wonder what result this poll would have had only at the beginning of last season and whether the options would have been different. Jus sayin
Guest shearfox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Seems the overwhelming majority realise what he offers which is good to see, I certainly wouldn't think about offloading him.
Corky Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I wonder what result this poll would have had only at the beginning of last season and whether the options would have been different. Jus sayin What, you mean before he played for us?
sphericalfox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 What, you mean before he played for us? Jus saying people make their minds up before players kick a ball, and then others spend the majority of their time saying how shit a player is throughout the season. It'd be good comparable data. Jus sayin.
davieG Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Is it any different to the views on Mills, king, Wellens, Gallagher, Dyer etc,etc there's always been players that have managed. to cover the widest range of opinions. Can't see the issue myself. How about - No he's good enough play him when the tactics/team make up suit his game.

sphericalfox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Oh right, I get you know, Jus abou. nice to see a positive 'campaign'. warms the cockles.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 All he needs is the fans behind him 100% 100% of the time. Unfortunately, being at Leicester he won't get that. Then we wonder why we have so many players that never prosper with us. Vicious circle.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Oh right, I get you know, Jus abou. What will the grammar nazis make of that!?
Mark_w Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 General perception most people have I could be wrong here is that Beckford is lazy i.e doesn't run around a lot, show pashuuuun aka Steeeve Howard, scoring 15 goals is that the marker of a shit player? or one to sell? not in my eyes I think we need to keep Beckford and see what he can do this season. Generally he started most games last season when he was here, managing 9 league goals. Waghorn came off the bench quite a few times during his first year but managed 12 league goals that season. Beckford/Nugent didn't work as a partnership at all last year so starting with the same front line would be a real mistake and as Nugent out-performed Beckford last year he should get the go ahead. Lets not forget that Beckford is probably on about 3x as much as Vardy/Waghorn/Futacs, he's the most expensive, and he's a lot more expendable than Nugent.
Deucalion Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Came across this thing on the BBC the other day called the Pareto Principle. Basically it says that 20% of something usually is responsible for 80% of something. For instance, 20% of people in a workforce do 80% of the work. Or, 20% of customers create 80% of profits. A more detailed explanation is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle My reason for bring this up is I get the impression that the vast majority of Leicester fans dislike Jermaine Beckford, but if you look at the poll result, 80% think he is great. So, 20% of Foxestalkers do 80% of the moaning!

You are right about the Nugent/Beckford thing.. The stats don't suggest that they had anything like a partnership going on... Neither of them got many assists throughout the season although I do think some of Beckford's runs helped Nuge find the space to score some of his goals. I think the acid test is this.... Pearson has demonstrated that he wants to bring the wage bill down. I think that's indisputable. Beckford allegedly has now become the clubs best paid player, possibly by a significant amount. Will Pearson therefore choose to keep him and NOT play him? In a logical world you surely play your best paid player as often as you can because that player should actually be one of your best players. This would suggest that if we don't hear that Pearson wants to offload Jermaine, it will probably mean he intends to play him.
Bert Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I really don't think he's worth his £25k a week (or thereabouts). Maybe he'll do a lot better playing alongside a target man like Futacs, but that would mean dropping Nugent, which wouldn't be a good idea. For the money he's on, he has to start, and I don't think he's good enough to be guaranteed a place in the team every match. I honestly don't think he's much better than Waghorn, and freeing up JB's wages would allow us to really strengthen the squad. If he does stay, I expect a big improvement from him this season over last season. And the rest.
Mark_w Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I thought it was 7 league goals? Yeah, sorry. It must have been 9 as I said, just scored in 7 games.
Jaspa Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 And the rest. From your insight, what probability do you think Jermaine will be playing for a new club come September ?
Corky Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Beckford scored 9 league goals (Watford, Palace, Middlesbrough, Coventry, 2 v Birmingham, 2 v Blackpool, West Ham).

whoareyaaa Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I wonder how many more threads there are going to be about Beckford, we've been through and through this before and you think peoples opinions will change overnight? It's just the same re-hashed shit from Col City who always seems to be at the centre of the debate in a Beckford thread. Judging by the poles your 'The forum still appears to be split on the subject of Beckford' its clerly you and a minority that feels this way. if you look at his record he can clearly score goals and a lot of them. give the guy a chance.

Who shit on your cornflakes? Chill yer boots and look up. I'm more than happy to give the bloke another chance. As are most people who voted it would appear. There is no harm in asking in a poll. Maybe some sort of poll on a Leicester forum would be a better test than asking a bunch of Polish people?
