The forum still appears to be split on the subject of Beckford so I've started a poll to size-up opinion.

Personally, I think Jermaine has a terrible first touch, is rubbish in the air and can't shield the ball.

However, I'd still keep him because I have a sneaky feeling there's more to come from him.

If we play in a certain way, I reckon he could be the 'ace up our sleeve'.

Opinions please.......

Hes a great player on his day. He seems to be spurred on by confidence. When he lacks it, hes shocking. Definately shouldnt get rid of him. People should just get right behind him and see what happens.

He had a mixed season last year, started slowly, possibly hampered by injury, then seemed to hit form in January/early February, linking up well with Nugent for a time, before ending the season similar to the way he started it.

Some fans have never taken to him and never will, he is one of those players (though as a character he appears as being very popular and down-to-earth). Others have stuck by him and believe he can do it.

I'd keep him, he can still offer something, but the rumours will always be there and that is not helpful.

I went for no he's great, but I do think if the right offer came in for him we should take it, he shouldn't be an automatic choice for the first team, but he is clearly talented, I guess the puzzle is how to use the likes of Vardy, Futacs, Marshall, Waghorn to get the best out of him and Nugent. If we can't then it is best for all if he moves on.

Ultimately our best front 2 could end up being Vardy and Futacs, the Fryatt and Howard of NP LCFC2.0, I would be very surprised if we started the season with all of Beckford, Nugent, Vardy, Futacs, Waghorn, and Schlupp it is great that we have so many options but at least one of them lot are not going to play enough to earn their wages.

Beckford & Nugent seemed to hit form around January time. We shouldnt get rid of him, no! Beckford & Nugent is one of the best striker forces in the Championship on paper and both could easily score 15+ goals this coming season. Beckford doesnt get the credit he deserves on this forum from certain members especially when certain comments such as "Goals in the cup or against lower league opposition dont count" lol Give me a break!

Pros

Got talent.

Cons

Not great team player.

Was 50% of a poor partnership linking up well once in a blue moon

Cannot control the ball

Seems easily demotivated, looks like he needs a pat on the arse 100% of the time instead of just getting on with his job & earning the praise

Cannot hold the ball up to allow others to join in to worthwhile attacks

Seems we've got to change how the other ten players play just to get the best of this one.

Don't care if he goes or if he stays, but if he does stay he's gotta perform better... eg. either bang the goals in, or be doing a lot of work to make up for the lack of them and if he's not in the first 11 he can't turn into a bad smell on the sidelines. shame as he really does have a phenomenal natural talent & could do brilliantly for us so I don't think he should go, but I've rarely seen anything to indicate a place in the first 11 barring a 3-4 game run of good form starting with the Forest thrashing.

Not sure it's a saga? I thought he looked good at the kit launch and broke into a walk within 15 minutes of coming onto the pitch. Bodes well for the new season.

Like many Leicester players over the years, consistency is definitely his biggest weakness. Great sometimes, useless at others. Also doesn't seem to work as hard as he could, but maybe a stronger squad like we have now will be good for him?

I wouldn't want him gone unless we were offered enough to buy a better replacement - would rather we kept him, but I'm hoping Vardy and Futacs will see a good few starts in his place to try to optimise our attack strategy

Yes, but I'm not voting, because I'm not saying he isn't good enough, I just don't think the Nuge/Beckford partnership worked, I can't see Beckford getting in ahead of Nuge based on last season and I doubt we can afford to keep him as back-up. Still think he'll do a decent job for whoever he joins.

He's like how Fryatt used to be, but with even worse extremes, he's great when he's confident and in the mood, but a waste of space when he's not. If he has a good first 5 games, gets a few goals, he'll sh!t all over this division and get 20 easy.

Shit first touch, not the great finisher people make out, lacks effort... but on his day can be brilliant (see Boro game). For that season I want to see him again in a settled team, with settled management and him hopefully more settled in himself.

Get rid ,not good enough he isn't a team player and the way nugent and vardy worked against hinckley I would defo start them two instead of nuge and becks !beckfords positioning was always poor last season and he was never willing to work for the ball !! Waist of money in my mind

Beckford is better than Waghorn.

I knew straight away I saw this thread title that you'd started it Col lol

No mate, I want Pearson to give him another go.

Which, so far, appears to be the general consensus.

However, I'm enthralled to see 'Seenitall' get his tuppeneth in...

Beckfords positioning was always poor? lol No just no. Beckford is a very intelligent player who makes them runs that centre midfielders would love to play a ball too shame he never really had that service last season. One of the best movements last season was Norwich away. Beckford flick on for Nugents goal just look at his run which allows Nugent that space to finally score.

General perception most people have I could be wrong here is that Beckford is lazy i.e doesn't run around a lot, show pashuuuun aka Steeeve Howard, scoring 15 goals is that the marker of a shit player? or one to sell? not in my eyes I think we need to keep Beckford and see what he can do this season.

This is why he gets so much abuse, he's like Heskey for England, people dont see what he does for the team sometimes

I really don't think he's worth his £25k a week (or thereabouts). Maybe he'll do a lot better playing alongside a target man like Futacs, but that would mean dropping Nugent, which wouldn't be a good idea. For the money he's on, he has to start, and I don't think he's good enough to be guaranteed a place in the team every match. I honestly don't think he's much better than Waghorn, and freeing up JB's wages would allow us to really strengthen the squad.

If he does stay, I expect a big improvement from him this season over last season.

Hit the nail on the head mate. Yes JBecks can be a bit of a pain and sulks too much etc etc, but some of his positional play last season was exceptional, and with better service he would have comfortably scored more. The trouble is he is very much a confidence player, and after a bad start he spent the year taking two steps forward and one step back.

Was it the West Ham away game where he got booed off and didn't applaud the fans? That was a low for me, and his relationship with the fans, however he spent the rest of the year playing one great game and getting the reserved praise, then two crappy ones if things didn't go his way and the fans got straight on his back.

I genuinely believe he is the type of player that if we embraced him and supported him the way we did with the likes of Hume, he could quite easily score the goals to take us back up, and perform at Prem level. In my mind, we need to be building a team around him. Pass to feet and he will score, and in 10 months time we will think he is a god.

His movement is good, just needs to get the service, he'd work well with Koren (if Nige can get him), amazign pace, talented and creates space for other players, he puts in a shift, he works well with Nugent!

He can get mardy but he's just a typical striker. I rated him and stuck with him from the start, maybe a pre-season under his belt with us would help a bit and I reckon he will be a massive part of the team next season if he was to stay!

However people on this forum moan and constantly get on players backs just for having an off game or two, if he had a perfect game every game he'd be banging them in for a top premier league club!

But yeah I think he's quality. :)
